@bowwowrapha7790 Жыл бұрын
He was a great drinker!! When they went on tour, they were the biggest party in town, everywhere they went, all the time. That didn't stop for at least 3 years, maybe longer. When you have that kind of access to drink & drunk and you are the star turn, it's unusual to survive. They all survived, intact(ish) and have gone on to entertain us ever since. Obviously, we lost two and George could well have suffered complications of overdoing it. I was an extreme drinker, smoker and dope smoker and the only think that saved me was that I nearly always got fired soon after being pain, as the session I'd go on would not stop for day, or until the money was gone. I always ate too which is a great help. I met Ringo Christmas day 1995 in World's End, Chelsea. He was coming up the outside stairs of World's End community centre and we we outside smoking. He was with three guys. "Howahyah lads" and he was gone. Nobody replied. He was inside afterwards but I didn't bother him. I wish I did!! Late 60's and early 70's, Yellow Submarine was on all our lips, as 7 year olds, we absolutely loved it!! My dad had a year in hospital too, same age. Curvature of the spine and got another 64 years, give or take.

Ringo is the chillest. In the first part there's a moment after George first leaves and you can see a tear in Ringo's eye as he sees the writing is on the wall. Really touching. Seemed like Ringo was the only one who didn't butt heads; he really wanted the group to stay together. Kinda reminds me of the peacemaker role that younger siblings often take in family dynamics.
@aaronpowers11763 жыл бұрын
Lol, ringo did get better as time went on, but he wasnt a notably good drummer. You can see he's struggling to keep up on most of the doc, so I'm not sure what you watched. On their early recordings (i think please please me) someone else played drums. He played tambourine. When asked if Ringo was the best drummer in the world, Paul answered, "Ringo isn't even the best drummer in the band." I dont mean to take away anything from him, he seems to be such a great energy and team player, but his most admiral qualities are not his technical ability.

I think ''sophistication'' is the wrong word. They weren't sophisticated nor trying to be. That's what people who listen to them like to think of themselves as. The Beatles were ambitious, talented, and the music was the result of various factors: competition between John and Paul, exceptional language skills, down to earthness, intelligence, tapping into something beyond logic, all combined to create genius.
@WonderofWatches3 жыл бұрын
The film enhancement was really incredible. A lot of times you see stuff labelled “remastered” but this was ridiculously good. I always think of the 60’s as a dreamy far off place, where girls wore flowers 🌺, and men wore leather vests with nothing underneath. And drugs of course, loads of drugs. But Peter Jackson’s movie made the 60’s feel very real. Like you were with the band. Like watching a modern day documentary on eg Metallica or Wilco. An exceptional piece of work and amazing to get such a document of Let it Be, some 50 years later. The Beatles are truly timeless and can be held up there with Beethoven, DeBussy, Mozart, Tchaikovsky etc

When I was younger I used to think Ringo was a bit aloof, perhaps a little naive or indeed perhaps even arrogant. After watching Ron Howard's "Eight Days A Week" and Peter Jackson's "Get Back" documentaries it's very clear to me that isn't the case. Ringo Starr is a man who is very self aware, knows exactly who he is and his place in the world. He knew exactly what his role was in The Beatles, and knew exactly who he was thereafter. He's insanely talented, bright, and seriously funny/quick witted.
@jevvie79153 жыл бұрын
See I always took him as the member who kind of held them together?? He is friends with them all and is there for support no matter what...and after watching "get back" it seems this is certain...he is so patient while they figure it all out and the way he talks to those around shows how he seem to want to do the best? Idk just my interpretation....I liked how when one said they were preparing for last tv appearance and ringo was very quick to be like let's not assume that! He seemed to be what they needed!

I took up the drums in third grade because of Ringo. By six grade I had begged my mother to buy me the exact set that Ringo had, and so I had that. I began to study drums and my whole world was the Beatles. I always thought he was the greatest drummer of the era, because he didn’t just play tons of fills, he provided the perfect backdrop for the music. With the immense presence of John and Paul, there would be no space for a drummer like Keith moon, great as he was, in the Beatles. For years and years Ringo had been maligned is not a good drummer, but he is now recognized as I always knew, that he always was an amazing percussionist. His genius was not sticking out, but playing the perfect part for every single Beatles song. He’s also one of the greatest humans on earth, and has always had a gentle loving personality. May he live to 110, a living reminder of the greatest period of music of our time.

I agree. The volume and range of the Beatles is epic. Ringo is so affable. I think what made the group so popular had so much to do with music, but also with personality. Peace and love, Ringo! Ringo listens to others and who talks when he has something worthwhile to contribute. Everybody who watches "Let It Be" hears Linda McCartney (RIP) confide that she feels so relaxed around Ringo nods in agreement. He is the antithesis of the drummer of drummer jokes, who does not understand harmony and who hits things by default. His drumming is so tasteful and interesting, and now we can see how he delivers wonderful improvisation on every evolution of the "Let It Be" songs. What a great drummer and musician!
