They donate their fur to our clothing to keep us warm, they run around aimlessly at 3:00 in the morning to show off their hunting skills, using said hunting skills to bring you dead animals because you are bad at hunting, making sure they watch your back while you poop, and now watching you sleep. Cats absolutely domesticated us, rather than the other way around, and I’m 100% serious. They basically give up nothing for the arrangement. They come and go as they please, give affection only when they want, and in return receive food, shelter, affection (when they want it) and a place where rodents congregate (human dwellings). Have you ever seen an African wildcat (the wild predecessor of domestic cats)? Literally just a cat. They haven’t changed at all.

(That will absolutely go for your face and maul it in minutes if you get too close, unlike the domestic cat where cat scratches and bites can usually be treated at home.

My mom wakes up earlier than me and feeds the cat, who then comes to my bed to snuggle. When I finally wake up too, she's especially affectionate even though I'm not going to feed her. It is such a perfect way to start your day especially if you don't need to go anywhere.

I had a wonderful cat which decided suddenly to sleep at the foot of my bed when I became seriously sick. He helped me through my illness, He would gently walk up my chest in the morning and start purring in my face and alternate patting my eyelids very gently. As if he was knocking on my eyes, because they were closed. He was saying hey, open up. When I did, the look of mischief in his eyes was a delight. I still owe him so much. But it was so long ago now. All I can do is remember him with praise.

I had 3 cats, one of them loved me, one cared about me, and one "accepted" me, but only me. So the third one was okay if i pet it, but otherwise was on her own most time. When i had a pretty hard depression back then, all of them, especially the third cat would not leave me, meow at me and crawl all over me, just to make me happy. They really know your feelings and care about them, even if not everyone of them shows it all the time. Cats are best. I doubt either of them has any capacity to think about whether or not we're different from them. They don't even have much of a concept of what they are. Both dogs and cats seem to regard us as they would regard a member of their own species though. Difference is that dogs instinctively understand the concept of social hierarchy. They (usually) see you as someone they need to impress, and worry about making you upset. Cats don't understand hierarchies like that though. They're down to be friends, but no one cat is in charge of any other cat so they see you as "just another cat" who has no more right or ownership over their environment than they do. So when a dog regards you as if you were another dog, that means it understands that it's living in your home and it (tries) to behave accordingly. When a cat regards you as if you were another cat, it simply means it accepts that you both happen to live in the same space. They might love you, but to a cat that's no reason to prioritize your wants or needs over their own.

Do you feed as SOON as you wake up? This may be why. If you adjust feeding time to be a bit After you get up and say, have your coffee, then the cat will adjust to that habit. They will get used to you making your smelly drink, then know hey its grub time. My cats know exactly when its feed time, they all congregate in the kitchen area around the same times every day. If im not in there doing the duty, then one or more of them come and make sure I know im forgetting something.

My older sister's cat, Lulu, was there for me the day after I lost my first cat, Graystripe. Lulu was a slightly timid cat and it took her time to warm up to me or, to just know that I was okay and that I wasn't going to hurt her. I had been staying with my sister sometimes for a month so she got to know me. For awhile I could only go to her and pet her in the morning in the kitchen. The day after I lost Graystripe, Lulu followed me into my bedroom after our morning hello and stayed with me all day. She became my buddy from that day on. So yeah, I too, can confirm that cats really do care. Lulu's company was just what I needed after going through my loss. The best nurse that ever had and never needed to pay.

But even though it's sad when they die, it's amazing when they're alive. They're funny and honestly owning cats and other animals makes me so much happier. Being able to walk inside to get greeted by my 2 dogs and then go pet my cats is great. It's truly worth getting an animal, they lift you up when you're feeling down and they overall make you feel happier.

Of all dogs I ever met, there were few that I would describe as emotionally even slightly detached from their owners. They live with and for their owners. However with cats, most of them have a very detached nature and they only accept you if you're a friend to them as they are to you. It's a personal choice what kind of behavior you like more.

My cat is named Sprigly. Named him that, because one day while bringing in the groceries, he just popped up like a lil sprig of grass. Didn't even see him follow me into the house until I turned around and saw this adorable lil kitten standing there, with a lil blue toy mouse in his mouth! Put up posters, and waited. It was quarantine, and all shelters were closed. After two weeks, with no response, we finally decided we'd have to find an open vet, and get him his shots, and let him stay with us, in the house he chose to just barge into! Best choice ever! He's rowdy and kinda cray cray...rambunctious and playful all day. But when bed time comes, and we call him m say "let's go to bed" he comes running and beats us to the bed every time. Hu snuggles us good night and then curls up in his spot...he wakes about 3 or so and does his security check and zoomies around the house. Then returns to his spot ... When we start to stir, he immediately walks up our bodies onto our chests, and nuzzles our faces with his...if we don't get up he will just sit on our chests and repeat the nuzzles every 5 mins or so...like a lil alarm clock that' keeps setting to snooze! It's my favorite thing about mornings! As soon as I'm outta bed he rushed into the kitchen to jump on his trash can perch, lol, to watch me make the coffee...where he stays until it's done so he can follow us out to the sofa And curl up on one of our laps, where he wriggles around and purrs..his coffee break! When we get back home, he's usually napping on one of his shelves, but as soon as we close the door, hu jumps down and rushes to the trash can lid n jumps up to say hi! You're back . He wants a head scratch. He's not really to vocal most of the time, but he's loving! But if your not opening his can of tuna by 7:30 he gets vocal and dances about to get you to follow him into the kitchen...to the pantry..to let you know hus dinner is late!?? He was a surprise, and he has turned into our baby, and we love him so! We have no doubt he loves his dinner, but also that he loves us! Mr. Sprigly...were so glad he popped up at our house, glad he chose us, and happy to have him walk across our chests each morning and feel his fuzzy face! He is a joy, and be is a pain in the butt, but he is ours, and we wouldn't have it any other way,!

I have Narcolepsy so sometimes my brain “falls asleep” and I totally zone out (kinda like micro sleep (that happens too) but longer and my eyes are closed). It usually happens right when I sit down to eat, when I’m searching through pantries or when I’m getting dressed. What I’ve found interesting is that my older and less “social” cat (she likes a few pets and scratches from her human but it must happen completely on her terms) usually is the one who wakes me up from those episodes. Once by stretching up along the cabinet next to me to paw at my hand, which she would never ever usually do. And she jumps up on the table and meows in my face almost nose to nose if I pass out there. As soon as I wake up and see what’s she’s doing I get so happy and praise her and thank her, and she looks pleased with herself. So now I know she absolutely does that on purpose, and why! ❤

I like how my cat knows exactly, when I finally go to sleep, and no matter what he's doing, he immideatly jumps on bed and waiting for me to lie down, so he can settle somewhere in my legs. And then in the morning he also knows when I fully wake up, and comes to cuddle a bit befor I stand up. Since I also know the behavior of wild cats, I say it's likely that they think of humans similarly as of other cats. Cats bring humans prey because they think that we can't survive without food or being able to hunt on our own. Which would be a pointless behavior if they thought of us as a different species with different eating/hunting behaviors. They also tend to greet us similarly to other cats, which is pretty uncommon for dogs for example. And especially feral and wild cats will also try to defend their own food from humans in a similar fashion like they would do with other cats. They will snarl despite knowing that the human in front of them just gave them the food. Could it be that cats check on you during nighttime because you act different than a healthy cat? From all I know and experienced, I think it's plausible.
