Future of Honor: The Carnies vs The Boys

I think it’s about time The Boys are given some names. It was a fun little bit to just have them be un-named boys initially, what with them essentially being Castle’s man servants (consensual man servants, but still). But they’re increasingly getting better and better, and they’ve gone from skinny little kids to actually having decent physiques. They feel like they’re on the cusp of tag team stardom, they just need a little bit more of an identity of their own to break out (and some sustained feuds with veterans to polish them up). Maybe even see if they can do a bit of an excursion in NJPW, if they can fit them onto their crammed roster that is. As much as I like ROH, they have a history of of waiting just a tad too long to pull the trigger on guys, to where the crowd loses interest in them before their storyline peaks. Hopefully this match is an indication they’re not gonna make the same mistake with these guys.

Timothy Torres I’m talking about within ROH. Because in ROH I’ve only ever heard them being referred to as “The Boys”; even “Boy 1” and “Boy 2” when they feel the need to distinguish. If they want to change it to the name they use outside of ROH: the Tate Twins, or whatever, that’s fine. That doesn’t really matter. The point is that within the context of ROH they don’t really have a proper identity of their own.

Jack Peterson I think a good story could be them racking up more and more wins, eventually challenging the Briscoes come late fall/early winter, but ultimately being utterly defeated. And I mean pretty decisively too, like they didn’t stand a chance. Make it clear that they’re not even on the same level yet. Because as far as I’m concerned, the Briscoes are the final bosses of the ROH tag division. If you beat them, you’ve beaten the best. And that should be a difficult feat, especially now that they’ve got veteran status. So you have The Boys lose handily, and at the next TV taping after that have them explain how they could feel the difference in power from just being in the ring with the Briscoes, and how they realize that they need to get better, much better, if they’re ever gonna defeat them. However, they declare that they WILL get better, and they WILL defeat the Briscoes for those titles; just wait and see, that’s a promise. Then, like I suggested in another comment, have them do an excursion run in New Japan (if possible). And I mean full excursion, living in the dojo for a year or two, and only rarely if ever appear on ROH shows during that period. Let them train and wrestle over there, improve, get their own identities and new names, and come back stronger and more popular than ever. Then, give them a shot at the ROH tag team titles (and maybe even have the Briscoes hold onto the belts for all that time in between) and have them finally beat the Briscoes on their first attempt as a new superstar team, now able to go toe to toe with the veterans. If that wouldn’t make them stars, nothing would.
