I just wanted a glovebox backup, so went with Tello pay-as-you-go for $5 (actually $5.95 initial payment with "tax,etc."). If I understand correctly, air time is $0.03/min billed against the $5 and balance rolls over indefinitely. Have to use it once every 6 mo. to stay "active". Anything better out there for this sort of purpose?

I had Boost and it runs on Sprint. I only left because it didn't work in my house or else I would have stayed. I recommend Boost.

I switched from RingPlus to Tello, largely based on all the favorable buzz Tello was getting at Howard Forums, but also because I could craft a plan which covered my usage pattern for just over half the price Ting would charge (after the promos at both MVNOs would run out). I had forgotten about TPO Mobile (which would have been roughly the same price as my Tello plan), and hadn't heard of Twigby before your video (their service would be a little more expensive than Tello, but would include unlimited texting, which I set up a paygo balance for at Tello). My only problem with US Mobile, TPO Mobile's GSM side, and MintSIM (which I had another phone on with their promotional 3-month plan) is that they're all based on T-Mobile's network, and the T-Mobile coverage in my small town stinks. (I do plan to upgrade the device I brought to Tello eventually, probably to a "universal unlocked" device such as the Moto G4 Play, and would appreciate suggestions as to inexpensive AT&T MVNOs. I mostly use data, with occasional voice calls and minimal texting. The device I had on MintSIM was previously on PureTalk USA, which had adequate call quality -- but I kept running out of data on the plan I could afford.)

Do you have a review on Mint SIM? They have the best value if you can pay up front. Unlimited talk and text and 10GB of data for around $35 a month for 1 year if you pay for the whole year. Nothing else even comes close to that. I'd love to see a review on them.

I had Textnow went to Ting I going back to Textnow It is Sprint and it is unlimited talk, text and you get 500mb for $13.99 a month. With Ting you get 100 min, 100 texts, 100mb all that for $15 it more like $18. So if you have COVERAGE with Textnow get it and the data is fast

The main free cell services are CellNuvo and FreedomPop. FreedomPop either works great for you or it's works poorly, depending on how you use it and where you use it. A few other places are considering free, but haven't heard too many that do it as a regular cell service. If you have a Wi-Fi connection, there are a number of free options out there, but they only work if you can access Wi-Fi on a regular basis.

Paul R. Smith i have FreedomPop when u run out of data u can't text on 3G u can only call and sometimes u get a call it won't pop up it will only show missed calls ..I'll look into cellnuvo thanks

Freedompop is also a good alternative. You could get free data either CDMA on Sprints network or GSM on AT&Ts network.

Robert Shackleferd that's pretty weird, I have a free 500mb a month plan on CDMA, and I had no problems ordering the hotspot. It might be a temporary website glitch.

The plans are different depending on if you want the CDMA or the GSM. They do offer paid plans, the GSM plans are more expensive and you get less data for free because you get much better coverage. I'm pretty sure the highest plan is 2GB for $20 a month.
