Reminder that Sauron has magic backing his manipulation, not just raw persuasion and gaslighting. Could be why he is able to manipulate wise people so strongly

The music in the Annatar reveal scene was even more amazing than usual!

It makes total sense why Elrond doesn't trust the rings or Galadriel. He saw her go from a rabid Sauron-hunter and turning her back on Valinor itself to keep hunting him, to not only willingly but _eagerly_ embrace something he helped create and take its counsel. Elrond is justifiably freaked at Sauron's ability to manipulate even the strongest wills of their kind.

Even when the King is wrong there's a way to talk to him. You don't scold a king like you're above him.

I am SO glad Amazon is committed to doing the 5 seasons of this show. I think in the long run, it'll be a series people will be revisiting for years to come once the hate dust settles just as it did with the Peter Jackson movies.

And so far it gets better as it get more established. Hope it goes to season 5 because it will most likely be amazing

I love you guys. You have no idea how much I've been waiting for your reaction. I'm sure many more will agree with me, because lately there's been some negative reactions about this show and I need to watch positive people like you with the same sense of wonder as myself. Blessings.

Same! It’s been so disheartening and upsetting to see this negative push not only in LOTR but other franchises. Manipulation & gaslighting in our real world. 😔

While the clip itself wasn't shown, Elrond's, _“He never left, Galadriel.”_ was probably my favourite delivery of the episode. In four words, he totally reframes the context in which Galadriel sees herself in this conflict to show how he sees her and the rings.
@lordfoul6259Ай бұрын
I recently finished listening to The Silmarillian audiobook and the three elven rings are safe but they're still vulnerable to The One Ring which is why they take them off as a precaution when Sauron starts using it

The only Istarii I remember are Saruman, Gandalf, Radagast, Alatar and Pallando (The Blue Wizards). So I do not believe the wizard in Ruhn is an Istar. In Unfinished Tales of Númenor and Middle-earth Tolkien writes that, "indeed of all the Istari, one only remained faithful," referring to Gandalf. We do not know what happened to Radagast after Sauron's defeat, though it is postulated that with the task done of defeating Sauron he may have left middle-earth. As for Saruman and the Blue Wizards, we know they went to the East to stir up rebellion against Sauron. in letter 211, Tolkien said, "what success they had I do not know; but I fear that they failed, as Saruman did, though doubtless in different ways; I suspect that they were founders or beginners of secret cults and 'magic' traditions that outlasted the fall of Sauron". - Tolkien wrote that the five Istari came to Middle-earth together in TA 1000. However, in The Peoples of Middle-earth, they are said to have arrived in the Second Age, around the year SA 1600, the time of the forging of the One Ring. - If all five wizards arrived at the same time and same way as Gandalf, it does not seem there would be enough time for the Ruhn wizard to be an Istari. Saruman did not swear fealty to Sauron until late in the Third Age. So I doubt the Blue Wizards would have abandoned their task before then. So I highly doubt the wizard in Ruhn would be Istari. - HOWEVER, this is an adaptation and as I understand some die hard Tolkien fans are not happy with The Rings of Power series, due to changes that were made contradicting the Simarillion. They may have creative license to change the times the wizards arrived, maybe having some arriving earlier. So it is possible that they have used that creative license to indeed make the wizard in Ruhn one of the Blue Wizards, or perhaps just a 6th Istari Tolkien never intended.

I think Celebrimbor is so eager to create something of real importance because his Great grandfather is Faenor who was one of the greatest elves in history. Faenor created the Silmarils. So Brimby loves to create and he so wants to match his Great grandfather's work :-) Also, notice how Sauron never actually lies to Celebrimbor. Sauron is a Maiar (Angel like being).
@elemmire7661Ай бұрын
I think you're absolutly right in your take about Celebrimbor, but Feanor was not Celebrimbors Great grandfather. He was his grandfather (Celebrimbor is the son of Curufin, the fifth son of Feanor)

Amazing episode, and the reveal of Annatar has been the best moment of the season. The only nit-pick I have, or rather still carry from Season 1, is the treatment of 'Young' Galadriel. Though it doesn't seem it, she is probably the most powerful of the elves - she was born in Valinor, was eldest* among the High King Gil-Galad, Celebrimbor, and Elrond, likely only being outlived by Adar or Cirdan, yet is still treated with impertinence. But I look forward to the end of the season which should see plot threads begin to intertwine. *assuming the show takes place during the reign of Ar-Pharazôn in the actual timeline (S.A. 3255), Galadriel is likely 5,156 years old, and was grand-daughter of Finwë, the first High King. Celebrimbor is likely similar, but born one generation after Galadriel, with Gil-Galad, who is Galadriel's great-great-nephew being 3,390 years old, and lastly Elrond the youngest, who was 3,313.

Though Elronds level of concern for the 3 rings turns out to be untrue, it’s hubris that the Elves are learning about Sauron’s plans for control yet continue to use their own rings. I’m excited to see the moment when Sauron creates the one ring and the Elven bearers fully realise their own direct vulnerability.
@abigailmallett9985Ай бұрын
Sauron is also a vampire or has been in past and Lord of Werewolves. I really like the theory that he gets such control over minds because people invite him in, like vampire lore

2:00 Something clicked for me when I watched the Rankin Bass version of Return of the King, and the 1 thing that film did great (except for the whipping song), is how Sauron is portrayed. It was then that I realized Sauron isn't just a flaming eyeball, but his self-image is as a replacement _sun._ Even as a Dark Lord, he sees himself as a source of light in Middle-Earth.

Sauron is a Maia, just as the Istari are. He may not have been sent by the White Council in the guise of an Istari. But it seems that he would still have similar powers perhaps?
