Of the myriad of things this show does badly, one of the worst is failing to create a sense of time. How much time has passed since the beginning of season 1 to the prologue of S2? Don’t know and the writes don’t care. How long was Sauron in Symbiote form? Don’t know and the writers don’t care. Also everything looks small. The Grey Havens should be large, yet it looks like a small fishing village. Most seasons are just two characters talking without a sense of scale.

They present Sauron as a sympathetic "bad boy" character from "Twilight" that is wavering between good and evil (and might have PTSD) whereas, by this time in the saga, he is irredeemably and happily evil. The model for Sauron should be a master villain, manipulating others like chess pieces from behind the scenes, like Francis Urquhart from the British version of 'House of Cards', or Emperor Palpatine from the Prequels or Tywin Lannister from 'Game of Thrones' (or even Saruman, FFS). If you wanted to do a conflicted Sauron, you would have to go way back to his corruption by Morgoth, or do Morgoth himself (why not?) which could have been a Twilight of the Gods or even a 'Clash of The Titans' kind of thing. Adar is superfluous, but if you must have him, he could have been trying to subvert Sauron to gain power himself as a side plot (like GoT), but he would not be able to outwit the master manipulator.

@@DaringDan Throughout season 1, Halbrand/Sauron keeps telling Guyladriel that he just wants to go his own way, that he's not the king of the Southland and does not want to get involved, until she talks him into getting involved him - unless you think this was all 4D chess and he was just "playing hard to get". Far worse than this, though, is that this Sauron gets easily betrayed by Adar, gets bested by common orcs and - as Halbrand - is humiliated and tortured by Adar, and even Adar's smelly assistant. Sauron is Voldemort, he's Vadar, he's Palpatine -- not this loser.

Sorry, but for us who have read a lot of the extended works, we’ve wanted to see this stuff on screen for SO long. I love LotR, I’d probably be considered a borderline superfan, loved the movies and watched them >100 times, and read & listened to the books dozens of times. But the RoP is great. It’s still quality Middle Earth content and over analyzing the content compared to the original canon will only end up with your own discontent. Which series season boss, please share your recommendations. You're not referring to the rings of power . Certainly if you want mindless entertainment that is bargain basement crap then sure, however if you're thinking about an epic series , this Certainly is not that. The plot is atrocious, people teleport across the map with absolutely no coherence, it's like a bunch of brain farts put together. Very disappointing but I've watched all 3 episodes in the background while I'm working and that's probably the only way it can be watched, as irrelevant background noise. A complete waste of an opportunity. When you have mediocre production values, you get an emperors new clothes version of the product, ie it's non existent

The first season felt mostly like setup, but this (second) season so far after watching all three episodes just feels like it's finally hit its stride. Sauron's narrative arc, rising from his lowest point to manipulate events for his own dark purposes, has been both captivating and chilling. I got chills from the dwarf sisters song to heal the mountain too.

Time gaps are used effectively to keep the story moving without dwelling on unnecessary travel sequences. The acting is consistently strong, and the overall storytelling feels more focused and engaging. I'm at least excited to see where the season goes from here, personally.

@macjabeth5073 not sure which series you're watching but if you don't have the context or experience based what strong timeliness, scripts, cinematography , screenplay, character arcs etc involve then ofcourse you don't have the background or context from which to appreciate what a well created product looks like. By comparing it to the dogs dinner that was series one rather than class leading productions you will be in the dark , but I'm glad you're enjoying it. I'm enjoying it too, enjoying how amateurish it is. It's almost like a spoof. Sort of like the scary movie series that take the piss out of various horror films, you know scary movie is anything but scary and what carries it is the slapstick humourous take on serious scary films. That's what the rings of power are. They're a slapstick take on one of the great storytellers from the last century and his views on good and evil by turning them upside down. Sort of akin to the France Olympics opening ceremony last supper spoof where they mock religious texts for whatever purpose, they're cutting the rings of power the same way. Take a story, remove all the values that underpin it and replace it with something else, something far less intellectual or compelling and purely political. It's quite impressive the amount of funding that's gone into this , amazon will never recover the cost but I applaud their stance on supporting DEI
