Interesting review and testing. I agree with your thought regarding Tri-Color lines. Recently, I purchased a two-color version of Perception and added two six-inch black zones using a Sharpe. The first zone was at the midpoint of the head and the second was at the end of the head. Doing this approximates the benefit of the tri-color version and makes it easier to find the optimal load point when casting. Here's my opinion regarding SA vs Rio lines. For freshwater, I prefer SA, in particular their Smooth Creek line. However, for saltwater, I like Rio with SlickCast. Comparing Bonefish Quickshooter to Orvis Saltwater Allrounder (with AST Plus) makes it easy to see and feel just how much better the Rio line is when casting. For those who aren't aware, Orvis owns SA.

Interesting review - thank you. I bought one of these lines a week or so ago and used it for the first time yesterday. Casting performance was excellent. Shooting line was easy and I found both accuracy and distance easier to achieve than with my older SA line. One disappointment was to flotation. The Elite Gold supposedly has a special "high float" tip. That seemed to work OK for the first hour and then became progressively more like a midge tip. A wipe down with a microfibre cloth and a light coat of Mucilin set it floating again. In short flotation was no better than the silk line I have taken to using for dry flies where delicacy is more important than distance.

So basically Rio have admitted their lines were crap , but it's ok people weve made them more durable , but were charging you an extra £25 . Wake up people these lines are a total rip off .
@Strontyum4 жыл бұрын
Rio is such a load of crap. SA, Wulff and Cortland lines have lasted me 30 years, and if Rio is still working on durability, the question is: will they EVER get it right, or is this just another gimmick to flood the market with their half-baked products. I definitely don't want the line.
@PacificAnglerTV4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you have had a tough go with Rio. 😐 As a guy who has been given free lines from all your listed manufactures for the last 15 years and have fished them all hard (blown up a bunch) I haven't seen such a wide discrepancy in blow ups from one manufacture to the next and rio has been leading the charge in many industry changing innovations. That said, I feel your frustration. When I have gotten a bad line it is a pain in the ass and there is something to be said about never being scorned twice. You are probably not open to it but as a guy who has fished all the listed manufactures lines... (my line bin takes up a cabinet in the man room lol) I think the new rio lines might be a pleasant surprise.
