Quick fix? Switch to a back 3. Mazroui and Dalot as the wingbacks, Martinez on the left, Maguire in the centre and de Ligt on the right of central defence. Gives us an extra defender. In possession, either of the CB can be pushed into central midfield. Then in midfield, an upright triangle of Ugarte, Casemiro/Mainoo and Bruno at the tip. If Casemiro is playing, he has to stay back at all times. In possession, he should be around the centre circle to support back passes from the attacking third. Out of possession, he needs to be deeper, just ahead of the CBs to intercept passes or break oncoming runs. Ugarte has more energy and legs so he can roam a bit more, almost like a box-to-box but more limited and restrictive. If Mainoo is played instead, he can be given more freedom than Ugarte and Ugarte will take over the role played by Casemiro in that case. Eriksen should be considered a rotation option for Bruno, but if played together with Bruno, then Casemiro cannot be fielded at the same time. It has to be either Ugarte or Mainoo, and both must stay back at all times and play Casemiro's role. Bruno can roam in the attacking third but should restrict his movements back into the defending third to help out. Leave that to Eriksen. When defending our box, Bruno can stay around the centre third to offer a passing option when the ball is won. Rashford, Amad, Garnacho, Antony, take your pick to play the wings. All four likes to cut in, so together with Bruno they will attack the box. No strikers. During attacks, we will have at least these 3 attacking the box, either Ugarte/Mainoo/Eriksen offering support around the box, Casemiro/Ugarte/Mainoo covering the area in between the centre circle and the opponent's box, wingbacks offering wide support, one CB around the centre circle as extra ball recycling support or cover against the transition, and the other 2 CBs behind the centre circle for defence. A variation would be an asymmetrical formation where only 1 winger is played out wide with license to cut in, and one of either Hojlund/Zirkzee is played centrally. Depending on the strength of the opposition, you can either push 2 CBs forward to overload the centre, keep the wingers wide, ask the wingbacks to tuck in, or ask one wingback to tuck in, his winger partner to stay wide, while the opposite wing cuts in to free up space for the attacking wingback. Or the wingback can cut in while the winger stays wide. Both interchangeable. The two non-negotiables are (1) to always have at least 2 defenders at the back at all times and, (2) if he is played, Casemiro must always stay back at all times to cover the area just ahead of the CBs, unless going up for corner set-pieces where his heading ability is an advantage. It's ok if we don't have enough bodies in attack. It's ok if we draw 0-0 or win 1-0. What I want is clean sheets. A consistent run of clean sheets builds confidence in the team, the kind of confidence that is built on strong foundations. The kind of confidence that tells the team they're solid at the back, gives the wingers and strikers the confidence to attack, builds a platform for the team to move up a level.

Another problem is Bruno. Every game I watch United play I noticed how the opposition is waiting for that failed Bruno pass to set triggers to counter. And it is very consistent and probably happens 3-4 times every game. Bruno needs to go on a vacation, he's played way too many games and now he's off it. He needs to go on a break. We probably need a 3-5-2 especially with how Dalot is playing. Maguire should be part of this back 3.

Bruno Fernandes would not start in Tuchel team. Never seen a number 10 get away with so many bad passes, track back so little with such a poor mentality and lack of emotional control. Reminds me of the latter part of Ozil's Arsenal career but with much less technique and control.

@@HaydnaterV reality is we’ve been quite a way off for a long while. Since Fergie retired the best we’ve done is 18/19 points behind the champions so I think 1 or 2 steps is a bit generous. But like I said, it’s a downward spiral and I can’t see anything being put in place to stop that. ETH doesn’t have the tools to make the team better and the players are not good enough, so I don’t see how it gets better.

I really think it's time to realise and accept and admit that this is the level of this team, this is the level these players perform at... Rashford wasnt defending, there players skipped past him like he wasn't there. Rashford's not good enough for him to stand about or pretend that hes running, its just laziness. Then Busby like Bill Shankly at Liverpool in 75 coming back to Melwood and players referring to him as boss, was a distraction and an obstruction. The same happened with Wilf mcGuinness. Looking at it from a success perspective, united have had 2 successful managers over the last 70 odd years delivering 20 championships and 3 EC's or CL's. Liverpool in that time have had Shankly, Paisley, Fagan, Dalglish, Houllier and Klopp deliver 19 championships, 6 CL's, 3 UEFA's, 4 Super cups in that time. Its about the club not the manager. That's where united have fallen down. Liverpool managers get the club, supporters and the city, united's bar Busby and Ferguson don't.

I don't know what everyone is on about with the first 20min - I felt nervous with our defence. Everyone forgot how dangerous Porto looked in first 3min or how poor our defence looked. That was the sign for the rest of the game. We had 2 'moments' for the goals but the goalkeeper should have done better. I personally think Ten Hag did the right thing to take rashford off as I was annoyed how he was jogging around in our own box and staying 2meteres away from those players he was supposed to be marking.... whose easy crosses turned into goals. He HAS to sort that out... he still doesn't look that bothered off the ball in our own box. Garnacho did better

I get it, Rashford scored and assisted. He was very good in attack. But If you re-watch the game the defensive work of both our wingers were pathetic. Porto was taking the ball from both wings like our players were non-existent. Rashford and Amad defensive work rate was so bad caused us two goals. Porto was crossing the ball from game started and resulted in 2 goals through same issue. This has to be a tactical issue from ETH not identifying wingers not doing defensive work properly or Rashford is not following the instructions properly. I have a feeling that some of the players don't care anymore. ETH is a deadman walking. If we go and play like this at Villa, we are looking at Christmas come early. God damn. Hope we get a manager with ideas after Sunday because there is no bloody way we are getting a positive result.

The problem for many of them is the shirt…..It’s been the same for the over 50 years I’ve been watching Utd. When things are not going well for our club that shirt can become like wearing a lead shirt, not everyone can carry it. I could see the look on some of the players faces when we conceded the second goal, it was a look of hopelessness. We need leaders, people to step up and take ownership on the pitch. After they scored their first goal - have a quick huddle, just a few seconds. Someone do something, emphasise, keeping compact, let’s get through the next 10 minutes because they are going to come at us etc. These are just basic things, plus we are useless when it comes to the dark arts, in-game management etc…..exactly the mode we should have gone into once we were 2-0 up. Get to half time and then go again….This team is so far off all of the basics needed to play for Utd, it’s embarrassing.

What is the role of a manager to regain control? His playing structure does not fit the player strengths. ETH needs to adjust his system, his in game management. The team cant play highline consistently. Midfield is run over easily due to legs. De Ligt, Martinez, Dalot, Casemiro, Bruno, Amad are shadow of themselves.

They were much harder to play against when weighorst,fred,mctominay etc were in the team and luke shaw left full,to spend 600 m and not have a left full and have a midfield of eriksen/casemiro is madness..they're too easy to play against,rashford is never going to be wayne rooney esque chasing back etc ,he is what he is,fast and has good shot, with a poor work rate on the defensive side and gets huffy when he has to do it..they are weak physically,lack pace through the middle,uguarte is not much better than mctominay,they need to spend again, they need a new manager and they need to get rid of anyone who doesn't want to run througha brick wall for the team.

I think we all know Bruno should have been on the bench for the last few games considering his form, basic decisions not happening, and i know Bruno is class but give someone else a chance whilst he’s off form, same as taking Rashy off when he’s actually having a good game going forward, I’ve backed him up until spurs first half…….but these decisions and having no real identity still is beyond ridiculous, every other team almost looks set up better than us, 2 young strikers, ‘this is Manchester United’ 🤷‍♂️

Family supported United for 68 years now. Iv'e come to the conclusion that this lot with manager as a complete team have become a mediocre mid table team. He basically plays counter attacking football with a touch of tiki taka, alternatively playing long ball from the back. Basically his tactical plan doesn't work well on the ball rn with these players. Because this is top football. Not Dutch farmers league!! The problem at MUFC is they have paid big money for average players, then put the average players on big wages that nobody else can afford, hence they are stuck with players forever, Phil Jones MK2's. They change managers but none of them can get any consistency, the players can switch it on whenever they feel like it. The bad apples need to be rooted out of the club before progress can be made.

Its terrible that they can't keep a run of clean sheets. The defense should have the mindset that nobody is scoring on us. But they keep bleeding goals. Work on keeping clean sheets and then the goals will come. keep clean sheets no matter what. I'd rather have a 1-0 win with a clean sheet then them to score 3-4 goals and lose a game.
