You should do your own ESWC awards, Richard. Best glazer, most hypocritical, least shameful, etc. Name and shame.

It would be really funny if a popular esports journalist/talking head ran a competing award ceremony in the same timeslot at the Saudi Esports Awards and called it something like the Jamal Khashoggi Memorial Esports Awards, wouldnt it?

The thing that annoys me the most about the Saudi money is the overwhelming, unrelenting positivity of it all. Like, ok, you're contracted by them, probably told to write positive about them, got it. But do you have to be so over the top about it? Suck if you must, but is the gagging necessary? What are we supposed to take away from that?

For the people who are unfamiliar with the R6S talents, it's worth noting that Captain Fluke (28:28) is a *trans* woman and a talented caster who's quite cherished in the R6 community (she even started casting for the game *before* her transition) so going to Riyadh would be more than just "risking" her life.

Can't believe the Kashoggi Awards article you wrote became a real thing, you actually predicted it before it happened. In all seriousness though, this is sad to see. Saddens me to consider whether or not there will be any CS I can watch in the future considering how fast it is becoming monopolized by Saudi Arabia.

This really is such an incredible insult to all past award recipients and completely undermines any credibility it had. Plus it has the added negative consequence of now indirectly associating people past and present with the ESWC. Anyone who accepts an Esports Award now should be ashamed of themselves.

rich you mentioned some of the team owners did it right and get it, would love to hear more about these guys and what lessons esports can take from them. Jason Lake would be the top of my list, but curious who you've got in mind

“There are some people who have provably run orgs well”… i think that there might be a list of 30 orgs that won’t be part of this group lol Pride before a fall is gonna be hype. As someone who watches a lot of different esports, I’m gonna have a much clearer view of which teams I’m rooting for and teams I’m rooting against.
@CountCocofang2 ай бұрын
OGs leaving the award panel is a feature of this move. This way the people with integrity left filter themselves and can be replaced by cronies. I hope LFN gets big enough eventually to make something like the "Esports Integrity Awards".

The most self aware thing to think right now is; Are we as a public deserving of media we (seemingly) cannot afford support collectively? This really sucks and the saudi's are fronting up the bill, we all kinda left on the table. (I might be off base on this.)

Wouldn't it be valuable for ex-panelists to form their own new awards group, where you recognise all previous awards and then present untainted awards going forward. Just so there is something that continues what was worthwhile.
