RIP CS2 Cheaters

We don’t want to alarm anyone but we might be seeing CS2’s first actual ban wave. Like one where actual rage hackers are finally getting hit by VAC.
In some instances, almost entire hvh lobbies are getting banned. This looks huge. There’s a lot of confusion about what's actually happening - so here’s everything we know so far...

Vacnet isn't fully in the game yet. But the prospects from this is very good so far from what they have added + overwatch. Let valve cook dude. Cheaters still get by in Valorant, some of which have been cheating at the highest level since release. Stop complaining when there are a few getting through, the point is mitigation, cheaters will always exist.

I got a spinbot in a deathmatch game a few days ago, they got kicked from the game within 5 minutes, but the chat message said something about “incorrect VAC environment” instead of “VAC banned”

Just played last night and 2 of my teammates were blatantly hacking. Spinbotting, Wallhacking, Aimbotting, you name it, they had it. We ended the game 13-0 and they never got banned.

As a developer I know what this is... This was a List Ban Wave Recently a lot of sold/botted accounts have been "leaked" and thus they just went down the list and banned all of them... This is not uncommon and very much automated by a macro just going down the list... The same stuff happens all the time but usually its combined with full Banwaves to not show how they did it...

90% of the cheaters and suspects I have demos for are +5yr accounts with 3 badges and 5 commends. Yet at less than 200hr they stop 2000hr 5 stacks. Yes, must be legit before watching the demo. After that … Volve power.

I'm convinced Valve has been letting cheaters go rampant for a few months on purpose whilst recording the data/training their cheater detecting AI and such. I'm fairly confident they will just flip a switch one day when the new system is ready and hundreds of thousands if not millions of cheaters will get banned and continue getting banned. IMO the AI based anti-cheat is the end-game. Any other theory doesn't really make sense as they are not dumb and I'm sure they wouldn't let cheaters go this hard for this long for no reason. I'm fairly confident it's all part of a bigger plan. EDIT: To every single person who decides to use the word "cope" in their reply: Please tell us an alternative explanation for what's been going on. I legit don't see any other than what I wrote above, but I'm eager to hear any plausible alternatives instead of just seeing boring old and re-hashed "COPE" comments that bring literally nothing to the discussion.

Just wanted to add some nuance to what you're saying here about AI anticheat. You say its "the endgame" but the reality of AI is more limited than that unfortunately. Adversarial examples are going to be a big concern with AI anticheat. Basically, adversarial examples are when you make a slight change to the input of a model to make it misclassify said input. For more info, I'd reccomend checking out the paper "Practical Black-Box Attacks against Machine Learning" (you can find it for free on google). Because of issues like this, its unlikely that AI anticheat will be a foolproof system for catching cheaters. However, I do think it will make making cheats that aren't trivially detectable substantially harder. This means that the various remaining cheaters could be better dealt with through a system like overwatch. Sorry if I come across as kind of pedantic in this comment

Gave Premiere (~20k elo) a try today, after hearing about the update of VAC. First game got a rage hacker on the enemy team, was a pretty quick one but gave it another shot, couldve been bad luck right? 2nd Game, 3 blatant wallhackers on the enemy team, one in our team. I watched the demo afterwards and 20k+ Elo seems to be riddled with low level (literally silver looking) players, that just cheat and are still beatable sometimes, because their understanding of the game is so bad. I don't know why someone would ever want to play this game seriously when not playing FaceIt.

Usually, a game's anticheat is judged by if it allows any cheaters to play. With VAC, it's if *stops* any cheaters from playing.

@@ducky1681 overwatch is only for obvious cheaters in general. Including wallhackers. You can not determine wallhacks if someone is right 7 or 8 out of 10 times with his rotations. If they do not track enemies like dummies, they still are free to go even with the overwatch as long as VAC does not work.

In the CS 1.6 era, if you played way too good then the admin of the server would force your game to take screenshots, then the admin would ban you, then you needed to go to a forum and post the screenshots. The screenshots would contain everything you see on the screen. Maybe Valve is taking screenshots and sends them to their server and then they analyze the pictures. I remember an admin could open the dvd writer tray to anyone he wanted from the server, which sounds insane and... insecure if you ask me.

I really wished they'd bring this back, as an admin during 1.6 days this was such a useful tool, I banned so many cheaters because of it. The moment you get suspicious of someone or someone reports a person this tool would either guarantee a ban or nothing happens.

"best" anti cheat was on cod4.. each server had admins who were responsible to keep the servers safety ... there was a cmd that would take a screenshot from the player's POV and would show what he sees (without the player's knowledge) .. ez bans

I'm not a Volvo sausage gang but I have a theory. I think Volvo is the only company that wanted a working Anti-Cheat without kernel access. I think they wanted to make an experiment on their AI but failed. So they brought Overwatch so the AI can learn on someone more experienced player review demos on this matter. Heck maybe one day we will have a server based Anti Cheat instead of Anti Cheat installed directly into our PC. If that is a thing, it would be awesome. I mean imagine Like Source game is a really moddable game, Mod the game for custom content but if a server wants to use stock "e-sport oriented" item, it blocks the mod. It's like CS2 and Team Fortress 2 but you can play GMod Sandbox Mods in the same game. The chances are extremely small but it wasn't possible.

Could be that once CS2 launched, there was always some kind of VAC Detection running in the background just to gather data on players. And now once enough data have been collected, the accounts are getting terminated. And it might be how it's gonna work with VAC i guess.

If the bans arent happening at the very beginning of the match when they are detected, its likely they are doing it this way to make it a lot harder to find out what set off the abticheat to ban the players. If that's whats going on, its genius because itll take a lot longer to test and fix the problem causing the detection

its a LONG stretch but AI anticheat requires time to analyze someones gameplay and even pattern recognitions to spot the same player on another account for when they try and come back, in order for it to get that data, valve may have just allowed them to go wild to get to a point where they could confidently say that it had a high enough accuracy in recognition that it would be ready for role out, from blatant rage hackers to closet cheaters, to even command abusers. probably a long stretch, but if it was a thing, it could be huge.

It’s possible that the reason the matches aren’t cancelled when the cheaters are banned, is because them terminating the match could make harder to ban the other cheaters. It’s not like the hvh servers only have one cheater, and instead just reinstate the canceling matches feature later

i have 100 demos saved up of rage hackers and quickly scrolled through them and i found 1 vac 6 days ago. most of these accounts don't even seem active anymore though it's so weird. these people can't win legit and they cant win hvh so they end up quitting the game all together is my guess. there's no banwave.

sadly this is just a detection for the most popular HvH cheat. This means that if the cheat dev updates the cheat it is undetected again. Cheats that aim to be on the legit side are still out there and undetected. The most popular legit cheat is still undetected for example. Its a huge win yes but that doesnt mean that vac got better just that the cheat devs got sloppy and released an update that wasnt quite up to the standart.

If they just made is such that if a team is detected to have a hacker on a team, that team should not get any + RP points and the opposite team should get a default + points, this will literally put a huge dent in hackers community as many people use hackers to boost their account and this will enforce people to kick hackers out of their team.(some tweaks to this are necessary but something along these lines will surely help)

I go check CSstats and leetify. No banned players in my CS2 games. What did happen, though, is if I filter to my CSGO games, I see people banned recently. Looks to me almost like they had detected people cheating on GO and waited until now for the banwave to target that injector lol
