Back in the late 80's Sinfield lived in St John's Wood. This would have been the time he was working with Andy Hill writing and producing songs in which their record company would play to various clients on their books, such as Celine Dion ... Aaaaaaaaaanyhoo! He used to frequent a well known pub off the Abbey Road in which I worked called The Clifton. He was a gracious, thoughtful, polite, mild mannered chap. He invariably dressed in black with his hair slicked back almost Byronesque ... He'd often eavesdrop in conversations and make notes, I asked him about this and he said it could be the beginning of another song ... Interestingly, he had a song on Herb Alberts "Rise" titled "Angelina" (though it was used as an instrumental Sinfield still got a (financial) credit. I always found him to be a decent bloke ... Paul Thompson from Roxy Music was another musician who frequented the pub at the same time.

Sinfields lyrics on those first four Crimson albums were equally as important as the musicianship and melodies, they were the glue that held it all together.

Thank you Darren, beautifully said. We lovers of Crimson and progressive rock have much to be grateful for. Peter Sinfield's lyrics could shock, inspire, or transport us... make us laugh or cry. Sic transit gloria mundi... so passes the glory of the world.

I was 16 in July 1969 & went to see King Crimson at three Redcar Jazz Club on 7/9/69; their support band was Free. I had been there twice before and was surprised I’d managed to get in, being as it was licensed premises! I remember being really taken aback by the music of KC as I’d heard nothing like it before, plus they must have brought along a light show as during ‘Schizoid Man’ the lights came on & off in exact sync with the start & stopping that happens towards the end - which really made an impression on me. I was always impressed with that concert and used to look up details about the band members from time to time. I hadn’t appreciated how wide Pete’s career had been.RIP 🙏

The best years of King Crimson were the ones that Pete Sinfield was with them. I loved his solo album and anything else that he was part of was magical also. RIP Pete,we will miss you but never forget you.

I loved the Still album! Song of the Sea Goat was the highlight, but the title track was great too, reuniting Peter with his old mate Greg Lake. Peter also produced that very good first Roxy album! Thanks for the memories!

I bought a 70s vinyl copy of Still just as news of his death was announced. Now that was a freaky coincidence. It's an excellent album.

Thank you Darren, strange i played the first 3 King Crimson albums yesterday, lyrics by Pete that have been in my life since 1970 aged 15, such imagery and imagination he created. R.I.P. The magic of Lake, Mcdonald and Sinfield remains...

Sad news about the great lyricist. May he rest in peace. Lizard was the first King Crimson album I bought and listened to and I was enchanted by both the music and Pete's magical lyrics.

Wow what a career and vale Pete Sinfield. Sad to lose him. Run with the fox! Great obscure observation. His contribution to ELP was massive culminating with Pirates from Works Vol 1. Which is where I first knew of him. Thank you for the background… had no idea about all his other eclectic contributions to other artists Darren! Brilliant dedication and he was part of the magical landscape of music that I haven’t heard since👏👏👏🤩

We lost a genius. We italians know Sinfield also to have been the producer and lyrics translator for our legendary italian prog-band PFM (Premiata Forneria Marconi). R.i.p...☹️

Very eerie, I heard about Pete's passing just a day after listening to ELP's Brain Salad Surgery, from beginning to end, for the first time in probably thirty years. God, how my 13-14 year old self loved that album! Thanks, Pete; no doubt Greg gave you quite a serenade at the pearly gate.

August 1969, myself a 15 year old kid found myself in the Marquee Club witnessing the emergence of king Crimson. At the climax of Schizoid Man a blinding white light shined on the audience, the work of Pete Sinfield.

Just yesterday I listened to In The Court Of The Crimson King the whole way through, and really analysed the lyrics, was thinking about watching Buffalo 66’ as well (for the soundtrack mainly), this was a shock, RIP Peter, will give Crimson another listen later.

His contribution to King Crimson cannot be over estimated, and as you say a certain gentleman may have taken more than his share. I guess Pete Sinfield was their talisman. The name is one of the best band names of all time, and the lyrics at the time were out of this world. Take a look at Giles Giles and Fripp LP to see where they might have been without him and Ian McDonald. His lyrics for Karn Evil 9 by ELP also created one of the all time Prog masterpieces. Greg Lake certainly knew which side his bread was buttered, and relied on Sinfield several times when it came to writing lyrics which were over and above the usual. We'll draw a discreet veil over Love Beach. RIP Pete.

He did more for Crimson than write lyrics and provide sleeve art. He operated the lights, played the VCS3 and generally was accepted as a full-time member of the band.
