This was a hell of a show to be involved with. I was the ring announcer for the evening, and a few things about that night. There was about 850-950 there, so for an indy show, not too shabby. Lol Secondly, and most importantly, I will never forget this night, because not only did we all get to work with a true legend of the industry we love, but Piper was one of the most genuinely kind and down to earth people I've ever met, in or out of the ring. What a stand up human being, and a moment none of us in attendance will ever forget.

I really enjoyed seeing Roddy again. What a pro! He didn't play down to those guys. He gave these people a show as if it were a full house at Madison Square Garden! I wish I could hear the dialogue better.. But, Roddy's timing alone still put a smile on my face. Thank you for sharing.

Piper never forgot where he came from. He didn't need to play these little arenas, but wanted to help the young guys just starting out. From his work in the NWA to the WWF, he drew $ wherever he went. One of the business's few legit family men, his heart was always at home in Portland..

I don't think I'd want to die with a heart attack. I mean look at Roddy here, he was smiling and interacting with his fans, probably didn't have one symptom up until the heart attack and then Boom! Dead. No chance to prepare himself and get his affairs in order. He was probably fine one minute and gone the next. I wouldn't want a drawn out illness but I would like to have at least a little notice so I can make final preparations.
@TakersMissy8 жыл бұрын
+Poppa Poppy Well, I read one account that Bruce Pritchard had reportedly said that poor Roddy had like 3-4 heart attacks within the last few years of his life. VERY sad. You can see, about 5-6 minutes into the video of his last "Piper's Pit" at Joppa, MD (which is on here on YT) where he says, "I'm not gonna make many more of these, so I wanna enjoy them while I can". So I've wondered if that wasn't a subtle hint to the fans that he felt he wouldn't live much longer, I don't know. But I DO know the love, respect, and gratitude millions of us fans have for him and our memories of him WILL live forever!! RIP dearest Hot Rod: you'll never be forgotten OR duplicated.

I'm sure Piper sold more tickets than the entire card combined but still a decent production and crowd. Dude runs in with the sling huffin and puffin lol no announcement. That's not gonna work if the dude isn't very well known and even then he needs recognizable theme music blasted to introduce him. The building is small and the ring entrance is 30 feet so you step out and run in the ring it takes 3 seconds no one knows wtf is going on. Then Snisky and that other greasy bastard are standing around with their fingers and their asses someone has to step up. Gotta lead out there, there's gotta be a 'go-to' which needs to be addressed beforehand. Two mannequins ain't gonna work. Crowd knows nothing, step out of line, grab the crowd and get back on line.
