@@userer4579 No, it is a real barbell hack squat. The buff dudes made a video on that lift a couple of years back, it is the same exercise. A behind the back deadlift trains the quads, not the hamstrings, because it is the reverse of a deadlift. Barbell hack squats (aka behind the back deadlifts) are better than back squats for hypertrophy of the quads because they take out the lower back focus, which allows you to go for higher volume with no lower back fatigue. The only downside is that it doesn't work the glutes and lower back but if you do romanian deadlifts, you can work both of those and the hamstrings at the same time, so you don't really need back squats unless you're a powerlifter.

@curlean-x4443
@curlean-x4443 4 жыл бұрын
@@18yearoldconservativefromc60 Thanks. Yeah, so I disagree that "it's completely useless." The trap bar is a valid way to build strength (in that type of deadlift pattern) and size. It's not "dangerous" since no exercises are dangerous unless loaded too quickly and aggressively. The "sagittal" plane stuff is not an issue to worry about because as someone practices the movement, that sagittal movement becomes less of an issue, and the people adapt to that position to be able to tolerate that instability far better. That's why this supposed problem never even manifests in practice. I also disagree that people won't be able to lift as much as a straight bar with a trap bar. Whether it's a regular trap bar (low handles) or a high handled trap bar, when done for a long enough time, those numbers should dwarf a conventional/sumo deadlift by 100-200 lbs. These were the main points of the video to my memory. I wouldn't tell people to do the trap bar deadlift over the straight bar since I'm biased to the straight bar as well and would rather coach conventional deadlifts, but I don't think there's anything wrong with the trap bar.

His whole premise is ridiculous. He picks an arbitrary weight (500 lbs) and says if you can't barbell hack squat this arbitrary amount, what's the use? I can't front squat 500 lbs, but I still do them. I can't bench 300 lbs, but I still do them. Some people can barbell hack squat 500 lbs. Some, more than that. That it's difficult makes it worth the effort. And, many accomplished lifters swear by them. Maybe they should have asked this windbag first.

This is false Mr. Fat Folk. Both variations did help improve both my barbell strength (pushing of the floor) and enhance my core strength. I can say your knowledge is good for beginners but not experienced lifters. Lifting isn’t all about 3-5x3-5 on compound lifts. You can start with a squat/ bench for example the finish your session with pull ups for reps and end with 2-3 sets of curls or extensions for 8-10 reps. Always end with core training to as you could actually train core/ perform steady state cardio on a daily basis

Damn Rip, could you be so wrong on almost everything mentioned in this video? Hack squat as a machine squat definitely has its use as a quad developing exercise. In the training time where you focus on hypertrophy (if you want to get stronger you have to get bigger i really hope i dont have to explain this) a hack squat can be used 1) As an assistance movement to avoid adaptive resistance on a regular squat 2) As an assistance movement to menage fatigue, as a light squat 3) As a way to add more volume to your quads without doing something totally unspesific such as leg extensions (again, not something that i need to explain i hope, you can not grow forever by just doing fahves and singles, you need volume) So how is a hack squat useless again Rip? Is it the absolute best squat variation? No. Probably not. Is it useless most definitely not. And when it comes to behind the back squat, i think Eric Bugenhagen did like 800+ pounds on that thing, so you may wanna send him some cash. My point is, i really really dont understand why does Rip render everything that isnt 110% optimal as useless? Is he being so dogmatic for the sake of trolling? Is he really unaware that an exercise can be just okay and not perfect or useless? Also, Jefferson deadlift can not be done heavy? Well, if hevier than a conventional deadlift isnt heavy enough, that of course they can not be done heavy.

Lohengramm 14 Machine exercises are useless because they dont replicate normal body movements or ROM, dont incorperate balance, heavy weights and restrict movement necessary to require proper form with for example hip drive needed to correctly perform a squat. 1) An assistance exercise is the pause squat for example to help with bottom of the squat. Not a machine quad push which dosnt make your squat go up, therefore useless for assisting anything. And squats are never "adapted to" they are a normal body movement which you will do for the rest of your life if you follow his program. 2) Managing fatigue by squatting light is by guess what genius... squatting with lighter weight. 3) Add mass to your quads? We dont operate in body parts when strength training and even if we did we would still do deadlifts or squats cause they train the quads more than some silly machine. Why? Cause we can lift heavier weight with full range of motion. Very simple and as i said before the body works as a system. So how is the hack squat useless? Watch the video again and if you still dont know come back to me. Your the one spreading dogma. Stop listening to roid heads and bodybuilding.com lol. Also why would you self admittedly do anything else less than optimal? Wierd.

There's a few people mentioning eric bugenhagen here, but even excluding eric, i know loads of people who perform the hack squat just fine. This guy is wrong on so many levels lol

Here is Eric Bugenhagen doing a 725 lb barbell hack lift: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZXUoKd4isiGa6s I did them in my teens with sets of 10 with 315. They will fry your quads. As an old guy, they are not as fun for me or my lower back.
