Reasons why it failed 1. Ubisoft's financial issues lead to them not giving the game enough time to really come into its own. 2. They were too slow to release updates, balancing and fixes 3. And the biggest thing in my opinion, they focused too heavily on the Sweats and almost completely ignored Casuals.

When the game was announced, it was called Tom Clancy's™ XDEFIANT, which was not a good idea at all since Tom Clancy games are supposed to be tactical slow shooters, and not some colorful crazy slideshow. And even though they removed the Tom Clancy name, factions and trailers of the game still showed characters from Tom Clancy's universe, like Splinter Cell, The Division, Ghost Recon. I also played the game for a hour and it played like a generic arcade shooter. It wasn't just Ubisoft's fault, the game was just average but they tried making it special by shoving Tom Clancy.

Overpricing their edition, the same copy paste open world formula, bugs and glitches, and many of their dumb statements. "Comfortable not owning their games" is more than just a statement. It's how they view their fanbase and customers. You want an example little bro? Their avatar game released a DLC and I'm not kidding here, you Needed to buy the dlc to continue playing your save. Although the majority of my blame falls on Ubisoft, I don't think they were the ones who eg. decided to divide the Map Pool into "Standard 6v6" and "Linear 6v6"Maps... Since the vast majority of the players preferred to play game modes like TDM, Domination etc. which weren't playable on the Linear Maps, this resulted in the Map Pool being basically cut in half and the feeling of playing on the same handful of maps over-and-over...

for me the reason why i stopped playing xdefiant is besides just playing the game it didnt feel like there was anything to do yes mastery camo's exist, but it was all just "play a long time with this gun and you'll get a camo" instead of specific challenges on top of that there weren't really any other significant challenges to complete. now im not saying a game needs challenges to be fun, but a game without challenges has to be really really good to keep me interested and xdefiant just had too many problems to continue playing

Game was unfinished when it launched a lot of connection issues, cheaters, the game modes were mid how do you drop without tdm. Maps only dropping for certain game modes. No custom matches . I said I would play this game until bo6 came out and I barely played it a month while it was fun I just couldn’t continue. Bo6 legit fixes all the issues I had with xdefiant

Honestly, I give the devs respect, but I could tell XDefiant wasn't going to last long. The launch was shaky, and it always felt unbalanced, especially in the early days. And now, with the state Ubi is in, XDefiant was a coin flip from the very start. It was either going to blow up or fail. The concept was definitely really good, but in my opinion, poorly executed. But I will always remember it as a short-lived nostalgia trip back to the old days of CoD and Battlefield

Getting CoD on games pass really did a number on XDefiant as well, 2/3 of the playerbase now don't even have to pay the 60/70 with PC and xbox itself, its the reason I tried BO6 at all and honestly was a great move for CoDs appeal to casual fans.

I almost feel guilty.. I downloaded it to try it out after getting frustrated with BO6 and almost immediately deleted it because I couldn't get a feel for the controls and then started playing Metaphor: ReFantazio.. even trying to go at Call of Duty is a commendable effort, and there was so much good with the game. It truly reminded me of early Apex in its layout and simplicity. Really hate it for those people who lost their jobs :/

I really liked how XDefiant played, and in season 1, I played non-stop for about 2 weeks, then the game just felt super stale. I love what XDefiant stood for, and I feel awful they couldn't make the best game. I hope Mark will have a second chance to create a game that can truly compete, or that his player-first mentality will spread to other games like R6S.

I watched a Netflix show called Captain Lasercorn, and that was an embarrassment in trying to make the UbisoftVerse. XDefiant seem to be the first success in terms of combining all Ubisoft games into one cohesive Universe but the game wasn’t profitable because everything seems so easy to unlock with only a few maps to play in.
