The first time I understood Oraal3D instead of Auro3D.🤣🤣 And now I hear it throughout the video. Content information was very good, thanks.

Please note that you need to configure the 2ch playback in the set up menu to remove the subwoofer from 2ch if you want to playback only L&R during stereo playback otherwise even using Direct and Pure Direct Mode you will still get the sub as you have shown at 5:42.

Another great video. In your experience how good are the immersive layout upmixers getting compered to even as recent as the last generation of AVRs? Are they approaching native input quality?
@jb.29869 ай бұрын
Great content Jon. That’s a lot of hard work and patience you poured into that video. Your findings with each of the immersive audio formats is greatly appreciated and match the results from our listening tests. I’m curious about your thoughts on the Auro 3D algorithm (auromatic up-mixing) of multi channel music sources. For us, that’s where Auro 3D really stands out above the competition. Thoughts? ….and keep up the fantastic work.
@ripewave9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind feedback. My comparisons of the formats to date has not been thorough enough to report formally. If you consider native content, the immersive effect is just as much a factor of the way the movie is mixed as the format itself. I need to find a way to separate that element and just focus on the format itself. I find myself using different decoders depending on the mix and my mood that day. I have not settled on one.decoder for all sources. Now that I have retuned the latest Denon and Marantz, I hope to send more time optimizing my long term units and comparing the sound formats more closely. There has to be a way to approach in a fair a consistent manner. Jon

@@ripewave Good point. Ya it’s definitely subjective when it comes to listening preference…whether two channel stereo; or 5/7/9.1/2/4+ surround; or quad channel like with the Doobie Brothers quad mix which we also own; or immersive using multiple heights-and finally which immersive algorithm preference using the latest 3 (and now 4 as Sony reality has entered the mix) competing upmixers. For now the customer seems to be the benefactor as the recipient being able to choose any of the formats listed above while listening. 80% of the time our fam prefers Auromatic upmixing for both music and gaming sound using 7.2.6 in an Atmos speaker configuration (6 heights). We rarely watch movies on our system so can’t comment on which we prefer. Auro 3D music listening when the source is multi channel is the sweet spot for us even though the middle heights are not used. It sounds more natural but more importantly the bass doesn’t get lost like it does with Atmos. DTS:X neural still dumps too much sound into the center channel. We just upgraded to a Vive Pro 2 from the original Vive and still prefer Auro 3D over the other upmixers …especially while playing Arizona Sunshine 2. In any event, YMMV but I’m curious as to your listening pleasures. We sure do appreciate your efforts Jon in the immersive and audio source testing arena. Keep the vids comin’ my friend. 👍🏻

Fantastic video thank you, if I want to install 6 in ceiling speakers should I put four in each corner and two in the middle of the ceiling on the edges?
@ripewave9 ай бұрын
Corner placement is only advised for subwoofers. Edges and corners will accentuate the low frequencies but will not present the best localization of sound for a speaker designed to provide a detail at much higher frequencies. As a staring place you may refer to the Dolby website for their guidance. There are should videos on this channel as well, but focused on two and not three rows of ceiling speakers. Dolby provides a range of angles which usually have the ceiling speakers in alignment +/- a foot or two with the front left and right speakers and rear speakers if you have them. -Jon

Due to my room setup, I have two in-wall speakers 2 feet above my towers, four sets of in-ceiling speakers, and two sets of speakers in the wall behind me. Would Cinema 30 be able to utilize all those with surround setup? So pretty much speakers are in front of me and keep going up and over my head
@ripewave9 ай бұрын
Not as independent channels. The Cinema 30 supports a maximum of 6 discrete height channels. You can have 2 front heights, two ceiling middle and two rear heights. You cannot add a second row of ceiling speakers to that configuration without giving up your front or rear height speakers. -Jon

Fantastic video, I bought a Cinema 30 based on all the reviews, and past experiences with Marantz. In your opinion which format sounds the best for movies?
@RobDarman9 ай бұрын
Did you try and do a calibration with the MultiEQ app on either the 30 or the 6800? I have a 6800 and the MultiEQ app sets the sub trims at -10 to -12 and there is absolutely no bass. I think there is something wrong with how they implemented the software with the 6800. If I don't use the app and do the calibration in the receiver it sets the trims properly.

Currently doing a side by side comparison of the Cinema 30 and Denon A1 H. Honestly, I much prefer the Marantz 30 to the Denon. Sounds so much more refined, more controlled, cleaner, very spacious and more.
@ripewave5 ай бұрын
This is great feedback. The comparison you are doing is one this audience is interested in and have yet to audition the Denon A1A. I think it is great for those who need a lot of channels but don’t want to run external amplifiers- it’s the only option at that level. However, for those who value sound quality higher, then your result are going to be important to them. Thanks for sharing. -Jon

What use is this if content is rarely available? What frequencies are actually being seperately out accurately, or is it just sharing the sound around all speakers inaccurately? Even Dolby Atmos is rarely included on 4k discs and less so on blue ray…. It seems we are advised to buy fancy speaker set ups whilst the majority of content is mixed as 5.1 surround

Great work as usual. As I said before, the DTS:X (Pro) and Neural-X will use the Center Height and Top-Surround. Not just Auro. So its worth using a CH+TS if you have Auro and DTS:X content or like to use Auromatic or Neural-X as your upmixer. How did the different upmixers compare to each other?
