Glad you're here to explain these things. Some might get too discouraged over these type issues and dismiss the problem. Send those units back and get one that works.

Thank you very much sir, that's why I am a big fan of Yamaha since 1990 because I never have any issues. My RX-V1 still working properly even I just updated my system to the new one Rx-A8A. Thank you for your honesty.

Yes I agree yamaha 2080 for many years with no issues. Cant think of anything more frustrating than to have to tear down a receiver after a long setup.

In general I like Yamaha. I have used one of their electric piano since 1994. I hope you have as much luck with the RX-A8A.

John, can you do a video on Roon, what it is and the benefits of using it.
@ripewave3 ай бұрын
That could be good. I have yet to invest in Roon. It is a nice transitional technology. -Jon

Hey john, really enjoy the channel. I watch the entire Sony 7000 series. I have a cinema 40. I’ve had it for about three months and it’s worked flawlessly. I did an update about a month ago and unfortunately I turned the receiver off during the process I didn’t unplug it it just power down. I quickly turned it back on, and it seemed that, it didn’t phase it at all when I checked it, it prompted me to download again so I did and had all sorts of problems not being able to access the set up menu, and after I was able to no sound from the center channel during the tone test, all other channels worked as they should. Call marantz walk me through deleting the firmware and reinstalling then everything worked except for the E arc which was working flawlessly before, so I am sending it in to be looked at as well. Hopefully they’re able to get everything working. We shall see. I will let you know what happens. Keep up the great work and will talk to you again john.

Thanks for sharing your detailed account. These are resilient but not entirely. The rebuild Marantz support walked you through almost worked. Go thing you are able to recall prior functionally to get them to repair. -Jon

@@ripewave hey john last Wednesday I believe, Marantz issued a brand new update that fixed my problem. I was sure that the prior update messed up the E ARC between my Sony television, and the Marantz, without doing anything to the television after the Marantz update, the E ARC functionality works perfectly like it did prior to the earlier update. I was pretty impressed with your review of the Sony 7000 so I’m going to pick one up and directly compare to my Marantz cinema 40 and which ever one I like the best I’ll sell the other. Thanks for the great reviews. Have a great one.👍

Glad you got that resolved with the Marantz update. Let me know how the Sony 7000 works out in comparison. Thanks for you support by listening and sending feedback -Jon

Moral of your story. Do not power down unit or interrupt power supply whilst performing firmware updates! You're lucky you didn't brick your unit! 😅

It would be interesting to try a cheap HDMI optical isolator on the Marantz HDMI problem. Granted, a bandaid fix, but a valid workaround while Marantz sorts out the issue. Yes, this type of video is intriguing.

This makes me doubt the quality and quality control of Marantz. It is very embarrassing for this company. Shouldn't happen with a product in this price range.

I agree. Let’s see how they do with the repair. -Jon

I think you could also solve the cable box hdmi issue with a optical hdmi cable
@ripewave3 ай бұрын
Yes - if it had a TOSLINK output - but this cable box doesn’t have one. -Jon

What makes you think its the cable box if you switched it with other AV units and you only have hum with Marantz
@ripewave3 ай бұрын
Perhaps it is better to say that the combination of the cable box and the Marantz Cinema 50 is the most likely cause of the hum. There is no hum with all other devices I connected to the Marantz. There is no hum with the cable box pulled into other receivers using same cables and power outlets. I even ran a long heavy duty extension cable to other outlets on other circuit breakers and the conditions remain consistent. Marantz support was convinced that enough to ask me to send them the unit for their testing. Ultimately they will report back their findings and I may learn something additional. -Jon

The humming issue with cable Tv is a grounding issue I had the same problem and with the pre out problem ...did you try unplugging the unit and then plug it back in? The Tv cable issue was solved by putting a filter on the cable ...my Audio dealer put it on and I dont know where they got it ..but it worked They said my Arcam unit was so sensitive it picked up the hum through the cable. I have a ToneWinner amp and sometimes when there is a power surge.... one or more of the channels shuts down and I just unplug it then plug it back in and everything is fine. For some reason ToneWinner wants the unit to be directly plug into the wall socket and thats fine with me and not the surge protector.You might want to do a video on that ...because some companies say it better to plug the amps directly into the wall socket ..they claim better power supply.

All great tips. I will experiment further. Perhaps the Marantz is more sensitive than the others I am testing with. - Jon

I had a ground loop problem with Denon receiver and cable box. I added a Ground Loop Isolator from the wall to the cable box on coaxial cable and hum was gone.
@ripewave3 ай бұрын
What a great tip. If Marantz is not able to resolve, I will try that. Can you share which isolator you are using? -Jon

Sounds like Marantz has scummed to Denons reliability issues. Stick with Yamaha or Onkyo/Pioneer?

@@ripewave I've got a problem in 'DIRECT'-mode with my Cinema 40: left and right main speakers sound different! (Unfortunately I passed my 60 days test period, otherwise I would have returned it (i.e. for a Yamaha A6A)). Testscenario: 1. Connect your PC with Cinema 40's AUX input 2. Put Cinema 40 to the correct AUX chanel 3. Put Cinema 40 into 'DIRECT'-mode 4. Use a test video like 'kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJfbm5eMrrKbebMsi=r1aH3uJldbls88P1&t=107' which creates a certain test tone and changes from left speaker to right speaker (in my case best value was 500Hz) Result: left speaker sounded extremely different compared to right speaker. Cross-checked the result: connected the front mains to my old ONKYO INTEGRA STEREO amp -> left and right sound the same with 500Hz! ( If you don't want to use a youtube video, you can generate test tones with the free software 'audacity' via the menue [Generate] -> 'Tone' in a MONO track, then play it to the marantz and pan it manually from left to right in order to compare the tones. ) Greetings from Germany
