When you’re at the dunes you gotta run race gas in em. It’s running hot because it’s just under too much load. Have to run filter skins. Change filter 2-3x a day or you’ll see it in the cylinder walls later. Make sure your running something like engine ice to give you a little more cooling. 2.0 rad cap is also a must. Oil changes at the end of every day with a fresh oil filter. Couple little tips for ya for next time from someone who wrenches on these things for a living. That will help keep it cool out there and keep it from getting hurt. Clean all the bearings when you get home. Frame the bike. Grease and clean everything. You’ll be dialed in.

@Onewheelordeal smart. 👍🏻 that’s what I do. I have a dune bike that’s a clapper. Replace it every few years. As far as E free you can but I haven’t found any from the pump by me that isn’t junk and old. But again that’s local to me. 90 octane e free is good fuel but it won’t have enough anti knock properties for a dirtbike in the sand. Piston will collapse if they get too hot and they start to rattle real bad. The race gas makes em run cooler and helps prevent failure. It’s super common to see melted or collapsed pistons on bikes running pump gas at the dunes. If you want your nice bike to live this is what you have to do. There’s 0 things harder on a bike than the dunes. I just rebuilt a 23 fc250 a guy took to the dunes brand new. Came back with 6 hours on it and a completely cooked engine. He didn’t run race gas, changed his filter once a day and never changed the oil. It destroyed the entire bottom end. Bearings, crank, rod, piston, cylinder, cams, timing chain and tensioner. all had to be replaced.

I’m sure all that maintenance is helpful… But I just add a little race gas (4:1 pump:VP110) for hot days, good filter and outerwear, and change the oil every other trip. Top end only lasts so long on a 450 anyway. More work/$$$ than it is to just rebuild it. Also have a ATC250R, second top end. 100% Glamis hours. Invincible 😂

@ a top end rebuild on a 450 is usually anywhere from 1000-1500 possibly more depending on who does the work and the parts you need/use. If you do it yourself a good je piston alone is a 400 dollar purchase and that’s not even getting into valves, springs and retainers or needing to nikasil the cylinder because of sand making it through the filter skin and filter. A little extra maintenance on your end goes a lot further than having to do a top end rebuild. It is your rig you do as you please which is the same thing I tell my customers. I’m just a wrench who has to fix all this stuff when it breaks. Take it with a grain of salt if you’d like, I’ve been building bikes for the dunes for customers since the 90s and I’d like to think I have a decent grasp on how to make them last there with minimal damage. Nobody’s perfect though. 👊🏻👍🏻🤙🏻

Holy Gen X Crusty Demons Batman! Let's go! I thought both of those tubes were going to be pinched. I've had good luck since I pinched two of my first 3. Have been money since. I've a plated '09 WR450F that I love to bomb around on. Those high speed desert runs look like a lot of fun. The WR doesn't like woods riding that much. It builds up a good bit of heat if it's not "in the wind." I added a tusk fan that helps a little. Love the dirt bike content JH. I also have a TC88 RK, Bandit 1200, RF900RV, DR350SE, and an RM125. 🤘

You can ride, very impressive. I got a gas gas 450 6 months ago been on the Florence and coosbay dunes in Oregon every other weekend what a blast.
