Well done sir...The gods and wizards of hydrology and hydraulics 🙌🙌🙌...I just wish to learn under you guyz and be able to make positive impart of it on my society ( Nigeria)

Hello! Wondering if you have a video on bridge scour calculations? I have not been able to find one but perhaps missed one?

Will there be the capability to use this tool in 2D? Or will the RASter calculator be the preferred tool for any design work based on 2D models in the future?

The riprap and scour equations are based on experiments with strict 1D assumptions, so they are not applicable to local, 2D hydraulics. Until there are good, local, 2D equations, we are not planning on adding them to 2D.

We are talking about allowing users to choose a transect in the 2D model to one-dimensionalize the 2D results.

I wrote a little about this in the manual: www.hec.usace.army.mil/confluence/rasdocs/rasum/latest/hydraulic-design-hd-calculators/riprap-and-scour-calculator/riprap-calculator-sizing-rock-gradation/limitation-why-doesnt-the-riprap-and-scour-calculator-use-2d-results

Thanks for the video. That's a very clear demonstration. Could I ask you about a problem I cope with 2d sediment transport?

I have a 10' x 10' culvert with water coming out at 17 fps and going into a natural channel. Our 2 ton riprap got washed away with the recent rains here in CA. So now I'm trying to size the riprap so it doesn't get washed away. so I'm making my upstream reference section to be the culvert which has the most velocity. The design section is about 15 ' downstream and I'm using that. So now the question: What section is used for the input data? It's all straight so there is no radius. But the side slope of the reference section is 90 and the side slope of the design section is 35 in the natural channel. So what numbers do I use?

Thanks for the video. I have a questions, in RAS MAPPER in a model 2D, can I draw a levee and then calculate its scour? To calculate the scour, do I first have to model sediment transport?. Thanks for your answer, I am new user in HEC RAS.

The only way to compute scour in 2D is to use sediment transport...and even then, in your situation (levee toe scour) you have to be careful because those processes are 3D. But you can map shear stress in 2D and compare it to an inferred critical shear to evaluate competence.

Try in FLOW-3D for scouring model

Much of the bridge scour equations are more than a decade out-of-date. When is USACE updating the bridge scour hydraulic design module? Version 7.0?
@stanfordgibson2 жыл бұрын
Hopefully sooner. I've been working on a first cut update that I was hoping to get into version 6.3...but maybe 6.4
