Everyone says their favorite band is has the best vocalist, or writes the best songs, subjectively praising their tastes. Rise Against are not my favorite band; they don't nail every song - and whilst the other members are all solid, I think Tim McIlrath might genuinely be the best lyricist (and acoustic composer) in modern rock music. Consistently dealing with mental health, desperation, advocacy, trauma, anger, resilience, love and joy, he can always craft meaning out of the lexicon, with flow, structure and resolution. - Well done Tim

I was diagnosed with Autism in 3rd grade. For practically all of my life people have been telling me, in no uncertain terms, just how hopeless I am. I've been told that I have no future, that I'll require help for the rest of my life. It hurts so much more because people seem to rarely listen to what I have to say. They try to tell me exactly what I am, and they try to fix me. They tried to claim that I have no empathy or emotions, yet music like this makes me cry, and fills me with a strange sense of warmth and bittersweet... something. People treat me like I'm violent sometimes, but I'm really not. Honestly, I abhor violence with all my heart. I want my life to be peaceful and joyful, and I want the same for those near me as well. For everyone, really. People have treated me as pathetic for so much of my life that I believe it firmly to this day. I believe that I'm hopeless and that I'll never amount to anything in my life. I've even attempted suicide a few times. I'm now turning 23 in just under 2 weeks, and I've been living on my own for almost 2 years. I still have a hard time believing it, but I think I'm beginning to question everything that I've been told all my life. I'm even learning how to solder electronics in hopes of someday opening a vintage game store & offer a service to do repair work on old consoles These are few of the most encouraging words I've heard in my entire life. My girlfriend has been nothing but supportive, as well. She knows exactly how to drag me out of my misery, and I love her so much. It might be crazy, but I'm even trying to right a series of novels. However, it's only in the world-building stages. Music like this inspires me so much, for both my life, and my beloved story. Not sure if Rise Against will see this, but on the off chance that they do; thank you so much. Your words cut like a scalpel and help to remove some of my anguish.

I just love it... and it makes me emotional every time I listen to it. There's something special in their lyrics, something that hits the soul. Rise Against had a big role in changing my life when in 2015 I finally had the courage to leave a boring European life stuck in an office to start travelling by motorbike heading east without any fixed plan and time limit... a decision that I'll never regret. Those guys with their songs really helped me thinking of what life is and why we should reconsider it when we feel in a cage. One more time with this song they make me feel that the walls that all surround us are only in our minds...
