I'm 53. I stopped listening to music in 1991 when I graduated from college and started working 60-80 hours a week. My daughter and my buddy recently talked me into getting a Spotify Family subscription, and I am in the process of rediscovering the music I listened to when I was young, and discovering all the music I missed in the last several decades. My new favorite band is RISE AGAINST! They're awesome. I haven't heard a single song from them that doesn't make me want to jump up and down and tear down the walls. LOVE IT.

I wish this album hadn't remained so relevant as the ripples spread around the world, beautiful as it is. Here in small-town Alberta, Canada, in the tail end of 2023, and even from my isolated corner, the world keeps getting scarier. I keep trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do to stop it, but it seems, locally and abroad, the people of the world have simply gone mad -- or maybe they've reverted to what they were all along. An outpouring of rage, hatred, and greedy fear and zero-sum thinking around the world, burning the future of our children. Is this just what humans are? Is it pointless to aspire to a better world? But I listen to this music to remind me that we have to try anyways. Too much rides on us to give in to despair.

No, not a dream. Violence comes and subsides. People just need the perspective that drives the mindset for a peaceful resolution. "How can I/we fix this" versus "this is too big a problem." People lose sight at times, but they will come back around. As people we haven't achieved all we have by not doing so. Great video!

Dancing on the crumbling precipice The rocks are coming loose just at the edge Are we laughing? Are we crying? Are we drowning? Are we dead? Or was it all a dream? The bombs are getting closer everyday 'That can never happen here' we used to say Have these wars come to our doorstep? Has this moment finally come? Or was it all a dream? Are we not good enough? Are we not brave enough? Is the violence in our nature just the image of our maker? Are we not good enough? Are we not brave enough? To become something greater, than the violence in our nature? Are we not good, good enough or is it all a dream? To a predetermined fate, are we condemned? Or maybe we're a book without an end? We're not stories, we're not actors We're awake and in control And this is not a dream So can we break this mold? And set in motion something new Forgetting what we know An evolution overdue Fight the current Pull the ripcord Get away! Are we not good enough? Are we not brave enough? Is the violence in our nature just the image of our maker? Are we not good enough? Are we not brave enough? To become something greater, than the violence in our nature? Are we not good, good enough? We'll travel back to what we take We need a storm, let's pray for rain now To wash these roads away Let's get off track and wander far Same roads reducing destinations Following nothing but your heart We're talking in our sleep And sleeping through our lives We dream of the places where we never die We step from our shadows And into the light Are we not good enough? Are we not brave enough? Is the violence in our nature just the image of our maker? Are we not good enough? Are we not brave enough? To become something greater, than the violence in our nature? Are we not good enough? Are we not brave enough? Are we not good, good enough? Or was it all a dream?

I wish we could do this without violence. We’re going to try our best to keep the peace. But we can’t guarantee those that we oppose will want the same, especially since we’re overthrowing a state that doesn’t truly want what’s best for us but rather what’s best for them. We can’t keep living like this, under them.
