Thank you for this video! I took classes in product design and Italian at Stanford so have always been interested in Olivetti. I bought one of their PCs in 1981. Just last year I had the opportunity to visit Ivrea and attempted a self-tour after reading about the company in their museum - tour office. I had the same questions as you. How did a family of engineers and manufacturers develop this broad humanistic approach? It’s a complicated story, but fascinating. Adriano’s early death presaged the death of Olivetti, as described by your guide, and there was also the fact that the Italian government did not pursue large investments in computing as in the United States and France, putting Olivetti at a competitive disadvantage globally.

Thank you for sharing the fascinating history of Olivetti. In Valparaiso, Chile an Italian immigrant named Augusto Carozzi Passani founded a pasta company. It was in 1898 and the company was called Carozzi. My grandfather worked there for many years. It was a wonderful company to work for, offering many benefits to the workers and their families including housing and health care.

Thank you for this comment. It's very interesting to hear about these stories. Especially this one about the Carozzi pasta company, connected to Italy but on the other side of the world!
