Thank you for taking us on this journey around this beautiful island. This history of the Aragonese Castle was interesting. The view from Mount Epomeo was spectacular! 😊

Thank you for this video! I took classes in product design and Italian at Stanford so have always been interested in Olivetti. I bought one of their PCs in 1981. Just last year I had the opportunity to visit Ivrea and attempted a self-tour after reading about the company in their museum - tour office. I had the same questions as you. How did a family of engineers and manufacturers develop this broad humanistic approach? It’s a complicated story, but fascinating. Adriano’s early death presaged the death of Olivetti, as described by your guide, and there was also the fact that the Italian government did not pursue large investments in computing as in the United States and France, putting Olivetti at a competitive disadvantage globally.

My Grandmother was Greek, but also spoke Italian. Only good things to say about them during WWII in Nisyros, Greece. "Una faza, una raza" as she would say, one face, one race, Greeks and Italians

Sounds more Cypriot Greek than modern Greek. Which makes sense as Cypriot Greek is closer to Ancient Greek than modern Greek. Amazing they still speak it.

That's interesting. Southern Italian is very different from Central and Northern Italy, more in common with other southern Mediterranean old cultures eg Greek etc. in Northern Italy many also speak German, French etc. Northern and Central dialects soundore like more northern or Slavonic languages. And the people look different, too. More blondes, redheads etc. pale Celtic skin, blue/green eyes, like Irish Celts but with dark hair. Not so olive skinned as in the south.

@@canadian6167 It's total cowardice, arbereshe escaped to Italy, arvanites to Greece and than others converted to Islam. So overall there was a cowardice amongst the Albanian population. From escape to betraying their faith.

Greek is spoken in 25 towns of southern italy (15 in Calabria, 9 in Puglia and 1 in Sicily) by a total of around 20.500 people as motherlanguage, but counting also the people who speak it as a second language it goes up to around 52.500 speakers. There are also 2 local newspapers in greek and until the mid 80s there were also 3 radio stations

I would have hoped that you would have contacted the RealEstate agent to get in to the property to see and perhaps take photos of your ancestral home. Who knows the owners may have been your relatives! Many times here in the Mediterranean the homes are passed down to the eldest son and sometimes the daughter if there were no sons. What I found through my search on my mothers side of the family is that my Grandfather emigrated in 1909 from the country of Crete, which is now a part of Greece unfortunately.

Interesting! When I started elementary school, first grade, the teacher called in my parents for a conference, her problem was that she did not understand me when I spoke. I only knew Greek and this was in the early 60’s. Well bilingual today with a bit of Italian thrown in, worked a few years in an authentic restaurant in the early 70’s. We picked up a bit of the important words for food while talking with the chef and cooks who were all from Italy.

Some day I hope to visit, living on the island of Crete so a short flight to Napoli and a long drive down to view the wonders of Greece. From my studies the residents of these southern Italian cities mostly came from seafaring families of the Aegean Islands.

Even in albania we us it mirdita it depends in what city you go in albania. After all 600 years ago Albanians was callings theirs self Arber or arberesh is the same. And today the others are calling us Albanians but we call our self shqiptar and our language shqip.and shqiptar means the people of the eagle in the honor of our flag with dabble eagle.

We use Mirëdita in Albania too, but it would be the equivalent of the Italian "Buon Pomeriggio", however you can still use it as a general greeting before evening.

The fact that the town has (or had) two parallel but autochthonous tongues, totally mindblows me. Also the consequent natural trilinguism of this people. As a monolinguistic Spanish-speaker, I struggle to understand it.

At 4:07 . "O ciurimo" = My dad. We use the same in Cyprus "Ο τζύρης μου".(Phonetically sounds the same). In modern greek it translates "Ο κύρης μου" but it is not common to be used in greece to refer to the father I think. Maybe in some areas or villages.

Thank you for sharing the fascinating history of Olivetti. In Valparaiso, Chile an Italian immigrant named Augusto Carozzi Passani founded a pasta company. It was in 1898 and the company was called Carozzi. My grandfather worked there for many years. It was a wonderful company to work for, offering many benefits to the workers and their families including housing and health care.
