Tiny nitpick - hope I didn't just miss it in the video: You can get the Affinity II rampage skill on the Abominable Greatsword. The Kamura line has it, so you can ramp it up before branching off into the Goss tree!

@@Harjiwan Weapons keep their Ramp-Up skills upon upgrading. You can make Kamura GS III (which has access to Affinity II), ramp it up, then upgrade it to Goss GS and eventually go AGS!

my guess is that Teostra will give you the Decoration for Weakness Exploit along with Critical Boost (expect the Decorations to cost the gems of the final bosses, a Nargacuga Medulla and a Teostra Gem... don't be surprised if it is lol) and perhaps Kushala will give Handicraft but I hope, just hope that if they bring Velkhana into the game, it'll give us Coalescence, they can easily add a skill via a Decoration and only one armour set, look what they did to Artillery, I had to use Rhenophlos (hope I spelt it right) Arms to get Artillery as a Charge Blade user, and of course they'll add Stealth via Chameleos armour and a Decoration, maybe giving you an attack boost from stealth hits for example that's my guess anyway

With the Anjanath S Mail you would only need 1 Focus decoration and would gain a small slot with it for maybe a little more flinch free or ice atk for the tiny little bit of extra dmg.

Hey Rage, Great video. The passion that was put in really shows. Whilst I wanted to just sit down and enjoy it, the math side inside me wanted to say something. I just wanted to say that the attack decoration % increase only increases the weapons base raw, not the true raw. Ie: The goss horag GS you put out with 245 true raw will only have its damage increased by 23 raw, not 24.5, as goss horag's base raw is 230. You can check this by viewing your attack in your status when you have attack 7, and subtracting the base raw of the weapon, as well as the 10 raw from the total raw shown. With this idea in mind, it conclude with some different results. This is especially true if the efr calculations also included raw increases from power charm and power talon, or from power sheathe. The final efr I calculated (excluding element and including power charm and talon) was Goss horag:381.2, Nargacuga:386.8, Nargacuga Crit boost 2 set: 389.3, Tigrex:388.3 Although the variation is slight, and in this case is down to personal preferences like you said, whether it is design, the 20 ice element, or white sharpness; If the attack % raw is applied on g-rank weapons in the future wrongly, the variation could be a lot larger, and could lead to actual wrong opinions. Off topic but are urgent quests supposed to have more drops ? On Xbox I just did the one for mizutsune (what a nightmare) and I got the mizu gem and 2 plates. My gatherer palicos got me another one so it's 1 and 3. Is that normal for high rank urgent quests or did I just use up all my luck for the game ?

personal recommendation; if you have extra slots left, defence boost is, IMO, A must have for Rage Slash users. The less damage you take when dishing it out, the better.

Excellent video, I love my greatsword. Nitpicking though, wouldn't the Anjanath chest work better because it gives the 2 ranks of focus with a free marathon runner and two level 1 slots? Also since the Tigrex greatsword doesn't get the benefit from Handicraft, wouldn't it be better to use the Baroth helmet with the Tigrex greatsword to get the last rank of attack boost?

Crit Boost 3 is a 15% attack% bonus from base raw and you only get that attack bonus if you Crit. Attack Boost level 7 with the bonus +10 works out to nearly a 15% damage increase as well, but the difference is you get that 15% no matter what, whether you hit weak spots or accidentally miss them. Attack Boost 7 is therefore better than Crit Boost 3 if you have to choose between the two. 230 raw with Attack Boost 7 is a 14.5% attack bonus with the Goss Harag weapon.

@@reesejohnson2788 I wouldn’t expect a big return from element if you’re trying to go for highest damage numbers, since it’s not dependent on motion values. But, maybe you could try elemental with the classic a->x+a infinite combo. It’s slow, but probably your best option for elemental.

So Tigrex Greatsword does not get a ramp up for Sharpness, but it has natural white of 20 hits. It’s ramp up is best used to increase its raw attack. Once I get 3 Focus gems I’d like to try out that final set in the video too.

Hey Rage, love your videos but I just had a idea and decided I'd share to see if my thoughts resonate with anyone else. The idea is: could you start uploading videos for new players on how to start making your own build? I've played through World, Rise and a little bit of GU, but one thing I've never got to grips with is making a build. All I do is look one up on KZbin (mainly your channel) and copy & paste whatever I find, never really learning how to make one for myself. And with Rise just releasing, I feel like there's lots of new hunter's out there (and experienced like me but still have no idea) who fumble their way through it without a clue as to what's going on. So that's where this idea came from, it could walk through the respective dos and don'ts when you start, what skills work with what weapons and so forth. Cause it's all good looking up the latest & strongest build out there, but when you don't know how to make a build you never really learn what's going on, so when a new monster comes out you just return to KZbin to have someone else make it for you. Sorry I know this is wordy but I thought I'd shoot and see what happens =p

Have you considered the powersheathe skill? Apparently it gives +23 raw. If that were true, I‘d imagine the nargacuga would end up pushing further than the Goss GS since it profits from critical boost and whit sharpness, but probably not enough to dethrone the king of the kings

I have the same doubt as with WEX, Narga and crit eye at 2 , we get 100% crit. Problem seems to be having crit boost itself because charms aren't easy to come by with it. As well as Atk being way better now than before, so atk above 4 boosts % based.

There is one thing that wasn't mentioned in this video and in my opinion cannot be overstated for Rise GS that makes the Tigrex GS considerably outclass the Harag one. Using the Tigrex GS and Anjanath Helm instead of magnamalo, you retain AB 7 and focus 3, whilst also being able to slot for stun res 3 with the 3 spare level 1 slots. Idk if this has been a problem for other people but stun res 3 has been absolutely essential for me using rage slash, as otherwise I get stunned in what would otherwise have been a perfect setup, and it happens far more often than I expect honestly, and it's also absolutely infuriating. With this change you'd lose the potential 5 raw from resentment, but handicraft is useless on tigrex GS anyway and I argue that the ability to ignore stun during rage slash, even if it only gains 1 extra hit per hunt, places in somewhat better standing than the goss harag or tigrex build shown here. Of course if your charm has extra slots than that shown in the video, then these builds would once again be better, but with just the charm shown, I think that stun res would make these changes worthwhile.

A minor damage hiccup, your Narga raw is going from 188 to 203, presumably the +10 from AB and +5 from Resentment. However the % increase from Attack Boost applies BEFORE the flat increase. I'm not in a position to check the order of operations with other flat buffs but I assume it applies to the weapon's base raw and before flat buffs. Meaning at AB7 it would probably go (188*1.1)+(10+5), but I can't say for certain. Either way the % increase from AB4-7 wouldn't be independent like Sharpness or your Crit Damage modifiers are. Also, don't forget about the +15 from the Power charm + talon and your Petalace! EDIT: It applies to base raw, before flat buffs. My 210 HH goes to 257 without any songs. Using a Petalace with +15 raw and AB4: (210*1.05)+15+15+7 = 257.5 If you add the flat buffs and then multiply by 1.05 it would be 259

I used the Tigrex GS with Crit Draw, Affinity rampage, and plenty of Crit Eye to hit 71% crit after a draw attack. Unfortunately after that I could only fit Crit boost 2 with Jang legs and also had to downgrade to Focus 2, but I feel like I'm doing noticeably more damage compared to when I ran AB7 and that's it. I was upgrading Goss at first but that White sharp on Tigrex instantly drew me in.

My talisman rolls have been pretty awful so I've taken to using using an Anja Magna build that maxes out attack, max focus, max flinch free, and 4 resentment. Been tearing it up so far using brutal strike on the Goss Cleaver.

Did you factor in the 35% affinity boost for the Naracuga greatsword? Even though the Goss Greatsword out damages it, you're more likely to hit crits throughout the course of the hunt. I'm curious how that stacks up to the Goss Greatsword

I'd actually like to see the comparison of pure Raw vs. Crit builds in Rise. Mostly because in 4U Pure Raw spit Crit's bones out, and in GU and World, Crit dominated- but in rise there are so many easy ways to add Attack, and getting a good partial crit rate eats up a disgusting amount of slots. I suspect on a weapon by weapon basis, we'll expect some outright Raw builds to outperform in spite of not getting 25%-40% spikes on 1/2-2/3 of some combos.

You forgot the most key skill for GS FOCUS Yeah that damage is nice, but having to sit motionless for extended time increments to unleash the power of said set holds it back. Focus allows you to do more damage in a shorter time, balancing the effects of needing to tweak armour skills. With this logic, Dark of night becomes the top GS, followed by Goss since dark of night needs little to no affinity investment, so you can swap vaik mail for Anjanath Mail S, and the ingot greaves for vaik greaves to guarantee a 3 level slot

Well you've also got rid of Focus which of course gives you a bump as you're gaining 3 2 slots but personally I find playing without Focus awful.

Soo not 100% sure I am in agreement with you this time and I do love your videos I do agree with TCS or RS being 100% preference because well I love TCS lol but if you're using the rajang boots you're forgetting the 10% affinity boost they can give through LP and it may be because I have a WEX 2 talisman but no 2 slot deco on it that's all I use but to the point with current build with Goss I max hit 1862 34% of the time but with narg I max with 1706 100% of the time (on head shots about 1100 on other weak body spots) if you or anyone is interested in what im running. I'll go into further detail but what I'm getting at is we can do much better with the stick of over compensation 😁 much love awesome content as always 👍

Honest question. Isn't focus kinda counterintuitive if paired with resentment, seeing how extra buffer time to tank the attack that makes it useful would technically be better and safer than simply getting the attack out faster, or am I missing something? What's your thoughts on that?

amount of damage given with less charge more than makes up for level 1 resentment. Also you'll find that you be hit alot with sliding switch skills and rage slash so both come in to play either way

you can do that with rage slash, wich is the 3rd switch skill for gs. you get it at like hr 5-6 in hub i think

This may be an odd question, but if I were to make a dragon element build for GS would I use dragon boost or dragon exploit for the ramp up skill? I'm building a set around the dragonslayer parasol soley because of the great slotage.

What about steadfast though? With adamant and rage slash tanking hits is it not essential? Being interrupted after a hit and being stunned can be not only super inconvenient but fatal.

Rampage gs is kinda interesting can get 220mt with white sharpness with handicraft 2 at the cost of -35% affinity. Probably not worth but the dmg output seems solid if you can fix up the skills

I actually wanted to ask, why didnt you consider Rathian GS? It has OK sharpness(biggest chunk of blue from these 5 if im not mistaken), no negative affinity which is important cause its harder to get more afinity in rise whan it was in world, has Tigrex damage, and poison on top of that. As far as im concerned poison still looses to blast but only blast GS is magmamalo and its quite bad. So we also get a benefit of damage over time. As Goss GS isnt an option when you enter highrank and will be upgrade-able significantly later i vent for this tree and wasnt dissapointed. Right now im literally farming rathians and gosses back to back to make both and see which is better in field tests, but as for stats from wiki look - rath option doesnt seems bad. So i really wanted to know why nobody considers it? Is there something im missing?

Love the set but I was thinking wouldn’t it be more effiecient to use the Rajang legs still then use a zinogre piece and a critical boost charm. Tho love the vid not only for great sword building but this clears it up for element less weapons in general

Tigrex is amazing in all base games at release. World before ignition , tigrex and diablos were silly. Same with Generations, Freedom unite too, and 3 and 4. Not absolute best but always a contender.

Remomba body also has crit boost, and with 50% affinity, it’s a 15% damage boost on just level 1

Crit Boost is worth 5% for 1 rank at 100% affinity, at 50% affinity that's 2.5% increase, certainly not 15%.

I may be wrong but I believe your confused about the value increase of one rank of crit boost. At 0 ranks you have 25% bonus dmg on crit already so at a single rank that’s just a 5% increase. The wording in game is confusing
