@@SourRobo8364 I decided against it. The artwork looks real nice, but I already have Fire Emblem Three Houses and Banner of the Maid. I think if I was either a bigger SRPG fan or didn't already have those, I'd bite.

Looks like a good old school game. I miss titles like these personally (but of course I also grew up in the NES and Genesis era). Newer games sadly seem to lack a lot when it comes to making enjoyable games. It's not always about graphics or being entirely unique. Occasionally it's about doing something that works well and having fun with it.

You said it inhereted flaws from older games in the genre that have since been replaced and ironed out. Which made me interested in what those flaws were, but you never got into those. I thought that maybe if said things aren't flaws for me on a personal level than I may like it more then you.

I recently picked this up as a diehard Fire Emblem fan, and it’s definitely missing the polish and budget of something like that, but the gameplay is fun enough and the battle sprites and animations are really nice. The one thing that really drags this one down for me though is the writing. The way the characters interact with one another between maps is pure cringe. It’s like a teenager wrote the dialogue.

Its not good. Plus the game saves are really bad many people have all lost hours of progress. Not once but multiple times. Seems like its an issue on all platforms for some people so be cautious about it. There is a reason its 90% off after only being out for one year...that's never a good thing.

Langrisser was pretty good, but honestly the best one in recent years that I’ve played (I’m not the reviewer) is Vestaria Saga I on Steam. Made by the devs of original Fire Emblem. Soooo good

I gave it an honest try and what I found is that its extremely bland. The combat system is way too simple and there is no way to strategize using team....its just use Natheal(main guy) to tank and attack and the side characters to support using a basic attack move. Spells are nonexistent. The music is the most repetitive series of stabs of a horn I've ever heard that honestly sounds more like a generic WW2 soundtrack that picks up climax and then loops after a jarring 3 seconds of silence. Da na na na da na da na over and over with a violen with an overdone chord progression in the background. But what REALLY kills this game for me is how the characters talk to each other. Angsty. Rude. Immature. And the character development is not there. Completely unlovable characters... The story setup is bad too, essentially, the two main characters meet because bandits attack some village that lua was a part of she sees natheal and assumes hes a bandit too...which he is too I guess... she starts off vitriolicly hating on natheal for being there in the village to meet with the bandits... natheal gets betrayed by his own group(the bandits) and offers to take her because apparently she needs to get to some city. Hes on the way there too apparently and she doesnt want to go with him but he insists and convinces her to go....yet and get this. She can fight on her own anyway. She's capable. Yet she hates natheal. Yet she goes with him. It's that dumb. But every side character they meet along the way besides a bowman is angsty. I swear, there isnt a sentence that someone isnt talking shit the whole time. I wonder, why the developer of this game thought that's how every character needs to talk but its genuinely the most toxic cringe manner of speaking that makes me wonder if the developer is okay mentally. ( I'm sorry but no movie/tv show/ video game has this same problem except maybe Resident Evil Netflix series. I should've just used the 2 dollars it costed me to buy this game on a can of soda. Maybe then I'd actually get my money's worth.

On Switch? Not all of these are Fire Emblem style, but they scratch a similar itch for me - Mercenaries Saga series, The Banner Saga trilogy, Langrisser I&II (one game, has remakes of the first two games), Fell Seal, Wargroove, Into the Breach, and if you don't mind importing I'd recommend the Super Robot Wars games. Switch has 4 of them (V, X, T, and 30) that have English releases but not released in the west directly. You can order them on Play Asia. I have two of those on Vita, but T on Switch. SRW 30 did actually release to the west, but only the Steam version. If you're not familiar with that series, it's basically Fire Emblem with giant robots, and you can generally pick up any of them because you rarely need to know anything from other games unless you're playing like the Alpha series or Original Generation games.

I've played that game for a bit more than 20 hours and I honestly wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The dialogs are some of the worst I've ever seen, and the gameplay is getting boring quickly.
