I've recently gotten back to play RON again after almost two decades and this guide helps a ton! Cool strategy to use workers as scouts, didn't realize ruins provide the resource you are currently low at thus you can 'manipulate' them to give you food. One thing I am still getting used to after years of playing other RTSes is how far spread out some of these hotkeys are. In a game like Starcraft 2 most of the important keys are positioned to the left of the keyboard which allows me to keep my left hand pretty much on that side. RON's layout is all over the place and many important functions require letting go of the mouse in order to press a combination of keys. It will take a while to get used to but I think it will be worth it in the end.

I’m about to get this game. Haven’t played in over a decade. One gameplay element that i recall is the ability to declare war, peace treaties and some diplomacy options, which is what age of empires is unfortunately lacking. I love starting a match with 3 or 4 nations all as neutral and as we build up, things heat up and resources are scarce, leading to an adjustment of stance, a battle or two and making peace after you get what you fought for. Only to then revisit the battlefield.

I learned 1 good trick: just press P to pause the game whenever you have to do something. Now I can't stop.

Ive always felt scared that if I start researching/click on another technology before science is complete, it doesn't register the discount for it.

Yes me too! I believe it won't register the discount until Science has been researched, so in many ways it would be better to wait for that to complete. But then I would find I usually forget and lose precious time as a result, so it depends how confident you are that you will react quickly enough to research the next technology!

Interesting, I always auto explore all military and scout units, then I create citizens to bolster resource production as much as possible

I've noticed a bit of a divide in how players scout. Some say auto explore is the way, but others are very against that. Out of those that stream the game I think most explore with citizens manually, but I haven't watched a stream in a while!

Great videos, thank you! I would crank your mic up a little though. I always have to blast the speakers to hear you, then some other sound comes in (or I forget to turn it back down) and blow ears/speakers lol.

Twiglets2 with another great video!! Thanks for the detailed information, didn't know all the keys. I'd love to see a guide about maps with naval usage - how to incorporate naval into the early, mid, and late game. Also, will the scouting be any different with naval maps?

Here's the problem, I can't get to find this "#" key , as it's only in shift+ 3 in my keyboard,maybe I am missing something here

We must have different keyboards! If you look in the key bindings on the game you should see one for selecting your scout, it may be a different key for you. It's quite annoying have it as # on my keyboard so it may be in a more convenient place for you!

I saw this over a year ago, tried it, didnt go well (with the scouting) and I gave up and forgot about. I came back to playing this game and found this video again, but really I don't think a lot is gain from using this tactic if any. I've also seen people use it in online/multiplayer where I guess it matters more. I must say I only play singleplayer, but I do not find that it helps at all, in fact I can get a bit further in 3.5 minutes with only the scout auto-exploring. The benefit I see of this is denying the enemy rare resources. Or maybe it works better if you research science level 2 fast to get even higher bonus.

Rise of Nations was originally released on CD-ROM in 2003. They had 2 versions. One for PC and the other for MAC. There was a Microsoft hosted server where multiplayer happened. Somewhere around 2010, they closed the server and all the players were left with very awkward options for playing Rise of Nations over multiplayer. In 2012 or 2013, the extended edition was released on Steam. I’m not sure if there is a Mac version of the game on Steam, but if you can find one of the original CD-ROMs from the 2003 release, it should work on your Mac.

Good viddy as always. So whaddaya mean by "Alt-full stop"? Why not simply select an idle citizen with .(period)?

The Alt is to select citizens that are currently allocated to a job, in this case the farms. If you hold Alt and then tap . you will cycle through all of them. Just typing "." will only select citizens that are currently idle. Something useful is to hold shift and then "." which will select ALL idle citizens. I find it difficult to keep track of them all later in the game so that's a quick way of getting all idle citizens together and doing something productive. I hope that helps!

@aliciamarazzani9447 when the tower turns red on one square it's probably because there is a bonus "ruin" there, so it's a way of locating the ruins before actually seeing them to get you some extra resources :)

Bu videoda da L ye basarak kütüphaneyi seçiyor, sonrasında araştırmalara tıklamak yerine T ve E komutlarını veriyor. Yani T tuşu ile bilim araştırmasını, E tuşu ile şehir sayısını artıran araştırmayı yapıyor. İşçi basmak için normalde şehre tıklamak gerekir, ancak C kısayolu ile hemen (fareyi kullanmadan) şehri seçip (L tuşunun kütüphaneyi seçtiği gibi) şehir seçiliyken tıklanabilen komutlara erişiyor. Check out my early build order, if you can do this as quickly as you can then build up an army you should be able to fend off the first wave of the AI up to a Tough level. It's really helpful to have a tower and research for attrition to help you defend. I hope that helps my friend! P.S how come you stopped making videos two years ago? Just curious.
