I’ve seen other people talk about this…but if you think about it, Pitch could be considered a guardian; fear is an essential part of life, even if it’s not a pretty one, so theoretically, if he’d worked together with the other guardians, Pitch could have been part of the group instead of trying to recreate the dark ages just to be noticed again
@thecocoacouch

It’s an intriguing idea. Perhaps fear is core but it’s more of a tool for empathy with children and he’s able to encourage and level with them to help them move past it!
@AriyaLauna

@@thecocoacouch Yeah, I actually feel quite sorry for Pitch, because the emotion of fear is SO important. Empathy, survival, things that would have been very important in a harsher world centuries back. However, I think that in a way the guardians of the present were in danger of going the same way as Pitch because they were forgetting what is was like to be with the children. I wonder if Pitch might have even gained strength by that loss and therefore able to break out. (It's pretty established that his powers grows as theirs weaken, so...maybe!)

Yes!! I love this theory too. He’s that innate sense of self preservation, that fight or flight response. Because having a healthy amount of fear is a good thing. But he took it too far. He wanted power instead of helping children.

I agree fear could be a major part of our lives especially if kids are entering adulthood Edit: sadly, Pitch is not using it the right way that's why he relates to Jack frost because he's also misusing fun (he used to be infamously known to being a jerk and a trouble maker) until he knew his center/ purpose and somehow realized that at some point he's just doing it all along.

Jack’s powers stopped working as well on Pitch because he got stronger over time as fear spread due to children not believing in the guardians and everyone having nightmares. The sandman didn’t die really rather he was corrupted. He’s made out of the same dream energy/dust as the children’s corrupted dreams so he was also turned into the nightmare unicorns. The kids facing & overcoming their fear/nightmares removed the corruption and when enough of the dream energy was purified Sandy was reconstituted.

"You're all hard work and deadlines, and I'm all snowballs and fun times." Fun Fact: This was the last Christmas movie Roger Ebert ever wrote a review for. He did give it a good one. Mythology Fact: In one scene, the Tooth Fairy (Isia Fisher) finds a mouse beneath a pillow. This is Ratoncito (Little Mouse) Perez, or The Tooth Mouse, a children's book character created by Spanish author Luis Coloma in 1894 said to replace lost baby teeth with gifts in Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, and Latin America. Historical Fact: Bunny (Hugh Jackman) mentions that Jack Frost (Chris Prine) caused a blizzard on Easter Sunday of 1968, a reference to an actual event. At the beginning of the movie, Jack Frost walks through a Colonial American village. In the background, the folk song "Kempe's Jig" is playing. This was a popular early eighteenth century English dance song, named in honor of William Kempe, a famous sixteenth century English comic stage actor, whose work influenced modern comedic acting, stand-up comedy, and improvisational comic skits.

What made me fall in love with this movie is that they made the fantasy characters into super heroes. Santa uses the power of Wonder, Jack Frost uses the power of fun, etc. And the fact that individually they are power entities. I mean the Easter Bunny has the power of hope? WOW....but TOGETHER, along with the belief of children are JUST UNSTOPPABLE. I loved this film as a child, and I still do....IF you are looking for a fantastic, beautiful Christmas animated film with character arcs, and the meaning of Christmas and believing then you simply MUST react to "The Polar Express"....not a true spoiler, but if you watch the film, I am an adult who can STILL hear the sleigh bell to this day....watch the film to understand what that means....

I don’t think it’s confirmed but a lot of ppl theorize that Jack is Jamie and Sofie’s great great great, maybe an extra great, uncle since Jack’s sister lived. I adore this theory because it makes their bond even more special. Also speaking of Elsa there is a ship for them called Jelsa 😂 I remember being like 12 and watching videos that ppl made out of clips of each movie to make it seem as if they came from the same movie, it had captions and some had an actual plot and went on for so many parts! There was a whole community of videos like this on YT for this movie, Brave, HTTYD, Tangled, and Frozen specifically and I loved it so much, I think they were called like The Big Five or something? Idk but it was highlight of my life at that age and so far I’ve only met one other person who experienced this and we talked abt it for hours 😂

I think Pitch's original/base power is shadow manipulation- he does it a few times early on, but once he figures out how to corrupt the dream sand (which makes sense with shadows/fear, since a nightmare could be considered the scary shadow of a dream) thats VERY powerful and also his shiny new toy, so he leans on that for most of the rest of the movie. Shadow manipulation also makes sense for how he got so powerful in his era- when the sun went down the only light was candles or fires, everything else was shadows and the deep dark outside.

In the book series, Pitch is actually the Nightmare King, and he's determined to take over children's dreams and happiness and replace them by darkness. He's also able to actually turn children into Fearlings, which are literally his creatures of darkness, something that would be terrifying for kids. Imagine having your soul completely and utterly tainted, perverted and corrupted! Because he can manipulate shadows and can't stand the light, he's earned himself the name of Boogeyman

👉Actually, pitch used to be a "Hero of Golden age". His real was Kozmotis Pitchiner, at that time he had a golden army to fight against the Nightmare creatures. when he and his army capture it, they prison them that made of lead in the farthermost regions of space. He volunteered to keep watch over them. As time passed, Kozmotis started to miss his daughter (Mother Nature) and the Fearlings took the opportunity to trick Kozmotis by mimic his daughter's voice. Kozmotis, believing that his daughter was trap, opened the gates letting the Fearlings escaped and simultaneously get possessed by them, turning Kozmotis Pitchiner into Pitch Black, the Nightmare King.

Its so understable that Tooth Fairy has a crush on Jack - he is the reason people slip on ice and often break their teeth. So Tooth Fairy most likely love him for that 😂 Also Jack and Easter bunny hating on each other? Well how many times we expected beautiful spring with sun and flowers for Easter and got ice, cold and snow instead? Totally Jack Frost "pranking" Easter bunny xd Also: in this movie Tooth Fairy meets a mouse and she says its European Division. Well mostly Western Europe. In Eastern Europe we have a tooth fairy too. And Santa Claus, and Easter Bunny. Ive heard about Jack Frost too. Only the Sandman is not that common

Funny that you mentioned Elsa because there is a popular fan pairing of Elsa and Jack Frost because they both have similar vibes of pale, blonde/white hair, ice powers, And both of them are lonely Elsa from spending her whole life locked in her room and Jack not being able to be seen for 300 years. Also I think if they ever make a second one I dont want Pitch to be a bad guy, I want them to not redeem him because he's not a good guy, but at least show that fear isn't always bad, it's what makes you jump out of the way of a car, or stay away from dangerous animals, not want to eat food that might be poisonous. A little fear is sometimes good.

So when the kids caught back their own fears, they were able to banish the fear from the dream sand. Fast-acting antibiotic for dreams, lol.

6:03 (ish) "he can manipulate people's feelings?" He can *inspire* feelings I think is a better interpretation? Obviously you've seen the whole thing by the time of posting, so his center being "fun", he uses his magic to inspire a sense of joy and fun in people. Sometimes more directly than others, but less manipulation and more encouragement. You see after he hits Cupcake that he's waiting to see if it works - if she really was NOT feeling the fun it probably wouldn't have. But Jamie, and later Bunnymund with Sophie and the eggs, and the kids being woken up near the end, are already inclined in those moments to feel the fun, so it just helps bring that to the surface.

just gonna give my owntheory on how Sandman revived. Its a mixture between wut i believe and wut ive heard. so before he died, Sandy put his last powers into Jamie, the boy he knew actually saw and would believe in him for a lon time, thus Jamie stillhaving dreams despite all his friends getting nightmares. And when he comes in contact with the nightmares, its like a trigger to the power inside him. This also triggers strength in the kids to conquer their nightmares, taking down the black horses and at the same time, spreading the sand-like dream powers around the entire place. By doing that, it makes a few kids start believing and it helps the guardians gain their strength for the final battle. And while all together, they couldnt do it alone. but with enough dream sand spread, sandman could rise up again wut ive learnt is when Bunny said 'I hope u like carrots'. Ive watched this movies a ton of times and i never understood that line till now which is pretty weird. im hoping for a 2nd movie of this but honestly I cant see where it would go.

I don’t really remember where I heard this theory, or even IF it’s a theory…but there’s a theory that Baby Tooth is Jack’s sister reincarnated….there’s also a theory that Jamie is his descendant Again, I don’t know if these are theories or if they’ve been confirmed

After all, they basically are there, and personified Sandmans center was dreams. Oh, and Pitch never had the same power as Sandman. He had the power to infuse fear into Sandmans powers, in essence stealing his strength

The designs for these characters is directly from the The Guardians Book Series by William Joyce, it also gives SO much more origins to Tooth and Bunny that is left of this movie and an impressively wonderfully painful backstory for Pitch. I will always recommend these books even though they're definitely a teenager level book series.

As an early 2000's born, I grew up with shows like Rise of the Guardians, HTTYD (How to Train your Dragon), LoTR (Lord of the Ring), CoN (Chronicles of Narnia), Twilight and a few others, when these shows came out, those were magical times that children should all experience and If I could re-live those times again, I definitely would. Also Sandman and Pitch (Boogeyman) have the same abilities, just that one is Dreams and the other is Nightmares, the thing is though is that I believe that Sandman and Pitch are the same beings split in half, I say this because I watched "The Sandman" series with the main character being Sandman, he have the title of "Sandman", he has the power to manipulate both dreams and nightmares, he has a pouch filled with sand, he looks just like Pitch and his name is Morpheus. What if Sandman and Pitch is just two personifications of one whole, which is Morpheus, an Eternal and Lord of Dreams and Nightmares?

This movie is based on a series of books ("The Guardians of Childhood") that explains Pitch's backstory. He and Sandman are not two halves of one entity

Rise of the Guardians is criminally underrated. It's one of my absolute favorite animated movies ever. Also, funny you said "aye aye captain" at the end when Chris Pine was the voice actor for Jack Frost, and also played Captain Kirk in the 2009 Star Trek reboot (unless that was intentional?).

I always thought the ending of this movie was off. Like the entire movie it's been pushing how much it sucks to be forgotten, and then all the guardians celebrate Pitch being forgotten. I know he's the bad guy, but fear can be useful in certain situations. I think it would've been better if Pitch was reformed?
@isabellawylie1826

Pretty much it was not Jack's fault of ruin Easter because it was his memories calling out to him and Pitch gave him his memories so the Gaurdians will think that Jack betrayed them

I'm subbed to you on an old account I lost access to, and then I couldn't recall your channel name, so when youtube suggested one of your videos and I saw your face in the thumbnail I was just like, "Oh, hell yes!" I'm excited to see all the movies you've covered in the last couple of months, especially the last few Harry Potter movies. I think you were around 10K subs back then, and to see you've doubled that in the last few months is really impressive and awesome, and I'm happy for you. :) Take care!

I know other people have already said this, but oh well. Pitch went about things the wrong way, but he comes from a very understandable position. He was the original Guardian. He was the thing in the darkness to avoid, which kept young kids away from very real dangers (wolves, cold, water, etc), but he also represents learning to face your fears and build courage. Then all of a sudden, The Man in the Moon decides that it's more imporant for the kids to be happy rather than safe. It's like the Witch's line from Into The Woods: I'm not good, I'm not bad, I'm just right. Pitch was fulfilling an important role, and the others not only deminished it, they took it away entirely. Kids need wonder and hope and fun, but they also need to learn to be afraid, and to learn to face their fears. Honestly, I would have loved a Guardians sequel where Pitch got a redemption arc.
