He was amazing during the heresy too. It’s just the new people that only have memes for reference. It makes it fun seeing all the new realizations they have about how multifaceted 40k characters are.

Tbh. All the loyalists were written to be boring. Horus Heresy is a traitor centric tale. The traitors are written as flawed heroes.

That's because a lot of those memes were back when Ultramarines were poorly-written Mary Sues. You can credit a lot of their glow-up to Dan Abnett absolutely killing it with Guilliman. People aren't "realizing" they were always great, they're coming into the hobby after all the better books about them started to get written. The old heads before that had to suffer through Ultramarines always being the bestest poster child of the franchise. It's pretty impressive really. Dan saw what they were on the tabletop and worked backwards to figure out what their dad must be like and then made him an interesting character, while completely explaining how Ultramarines wind up being the "basic generalist marine" in 40K. They have no real generational traumas (e.g. World Eaters) and were always good at logistics. And they don't engage in a type of specialized warfare that relegates them to a self-destructive niche (e.g. Iron Warriors). Sanity and good parenting is their Legion superpower. Basic, but when everybody else is collecting skulls, drinking blood or is a religious fanatic, that's downright abnormal. Guilliman thought his sons would retire to a life of civil service and it shows. He always expected them to be more than just a battering ram or genocidal maniacs.

I remember when the Lion met Dante and got news that Guilliman was now in charge of the Imperium. His sigh of relief "Guilliman...I'm not alone", was wholesome, as it showed that there was someone still alive that Lion knew and could rely on. Guilliman had it rough. His father, his Loyalist brothers, his subordinates such as Marius Gage, Remus Ventanus and Aeonid Thiel, were all either dead or missing. He had no-one to rely on. He was truly alone in a dark universe.

People be hating the Ultramarines for the memes but Guillman proves why the Ultramarines were arguably the best Legion of Heresy, both for their martial prowess but also their ability to build the Imperium.

Nah, people are forgetting how badly written Ultramarines used to be under Matt Ward. Dan Abnett writes gold and he laid a lot of the groundwork by making Guilliman an interesting character in _No Know Fear._ Dan making Guilliman a well-rounded logistics nerd and politician who wanted his sons to retire to civilian lives is a stroke of genius. Before they were considered boring and generic Mary Sues that didn't have a lot to set them apart from Space Vikings, Space Vampires and Space Wizards. Now, they're the Well-Adjusted Home Life Marines. And it is a good gimmick. In 40k, the strongest superpower isn't space magicks, berserker fury, religious extremism or cybernetics. It's the fact that Guiliman was the dad who went to get the milk and came back.

I may be a Space Wolf fan, but, when it comes down to it, Robute Guilleman is the best primarch. He will win the war where others will win battles. And it's the Ultramarines who know best how to rebuild a world because their primarch had a glimpse of what humanity can be capable of when we are at our best. I wish Leman would have a similarity positive, uplifting transformation. I'd love to see him with the Lion, Guilleman, Dorne, Corax, and a redeemed clone Fulgrim not only open the door for hope, but take back the galaxy and achieve their father's original vision. The more i read about the primarchs and listen to lore videoes like this, the more i realize that the stories of the primarchs are about more than empire -- they're about family and, maybe, a shared dream about the human race that was undone, but may just have a chance at being rebuilt. Thank you for your work. Keep going.

R.G. really is my favorite Primarch, he feels the most human to me, maybe it could be bias because i havent read enough about the rest, but even so i still appreciate his view of things, like for example in unremembered empire (i think) he made a table with enough seats for all his brothers, even the 2 that were expunged from history, and the emperor, showing his sentimentality and hope for the future wonderful rendition as always

I agree, I've only read about a handful of the Primarchs so far and while my favorite is still Sanguinius, Guilliman is right behind him. He's so human despite being a demigod, and it always hurts to see how much he's struggling internally while having to keep going strong on the outside for the sake of humanity.

Wow, what an incredible rendition of one of my favorite excerpts in Warhammer 40,000. I love how well you communicated the roiling current of emotion Roboute is allowing himself to experience in this private moment, artfully accompanied by the Ultima growing dim and faded as he wallows in them. Anger at himself, his brothers, the Emperor, and the Imperium for everything that has happened and gone wrong over the millennia. Grief, at all of the friends and loved ones he has lost, that he will never see again after being hurled by the Blade of Fulgrim and the Stasis Throne ten thousand years out of time, at the Empire he built on a foundation of hope and reason lost to ignorance and superstition. Despair, at the state of the Imperium, of humanity, in the hundred centuries since he left, the enemies that surround them, and all that he sought to shape and make real turned to dust. And then, with a surge of golden fire, the Avenging Son finds hope. The hope of yesterday he has always had, and the hope of today, which he finds in his Sons, in his people, as they work to rebuild. They have known nothing else but the darkness of the far future, and yet they have not broken, so he can do no less. The Imperium still stands, broken and corrupted as it is. And so long as it stands, the breaks can be mended, and the corruption healed. Even though countless enemies lie before it, Roboute Guilliman cannot afford to wallow for more than a moment in grief and self-pity. He will do his duty, and see the Imperium restored to the dream he and his brothers fought for, or die trying. Excellent work as usual. Looking forward to more of your content!

Guilliman brought hope back with him. Even when all seems lost he thinks of those around him. His indomitus crusade with primarus reinforcements was a big impact. How he speaks to mortals like Ursula Creed on a smaller level. He was the best Primarch to return first.

I thought that was funny too. Guilliman almost had an "are we the baddies" moment but I guess he's still the Emperor's son after all. I mean I guess he sorta gets there but deluding yourself into thinking that the Imperium's state is everyone else's fault is perfectly intune for 40k

By the way, can someone explain to me why several custodes are almost naked?, and why there is an Imperial Fists Centurion prowling the Palace? , why I saw Magnus on a motorcycle? and I knew of a custodes named Kitten who has a tau girlfriend and I have pictures of them eating ice cream, is that true?
