This is awesome. Love Baker. When I started going there back in the early 90s there were T-bars and a very sketchy 2 chair with no bar, and they'd let you sleep in the lodge cafeteria in your sleeping bag so you could do multi-day trips in comfort, instead of having to sleep in your car in the parking lot. Love Baker. 94 through 99 saw some absolutely epic seasons at Whistler, Red, Whitewater, Baker, etc. Love the OG jacket, woot woot! Been around for a while. My car bin of old clothes, helmets, goggles, gloves, etc have saved me and friends and randoms so many times over the decades. Turned so many days, that forgotten things or wetted-out clothes could have ruined, into good times for all.

@conradcoolerfiend Sadly, sleeping in the lodge in your sleeping bag was a pretty common thing thought the Washington State and Southern BC region back in the 80s and 90s when the hills were still Mom and Pop owned. You could sleep in the lodge at Red Mountain in Rossland too back then.

Awesome episode! I’m a Baker local, got into skiing in 2022 because my kiddo needed a new winter hobby, and we’ve really grown to love it! We only ski at baker, since it’s just over an hour from our house here in Bellingham, and we have season passes, so it feels “free.” 😂 it was really fun to see you experience our local Hill! As a fellow KZbinr, this was a cool taste of what it must feel like for a lot of my audience to watch videos when I ride their local terrain. Thanks again for the sweet video and glad you enjoyed Baker!

When I lived in Aldergrove in the 70s, I far preferred skiing Baker to Whistler. Whenever I think of Baker, I think about that snowboarder who got caught in the tree well a couple of years ago, who got saved by a skier who just happened to see the base of his board.

I've seen alotta mountains boy, alotta mountains, but this one is a real winner, and we love winners, don't we? Don't we love our winners, folks? Don't we love our winners? I only pick winners. People love this mountain, and good people, very fine people, tell me it's the best mountain they've ever skied. The last couple times I was there the biggest Chair was entitled "Sticky Wicket"; I don't know what they call it now. I've also been told that due to precipitation and wind patterns, there is a counter clockwise wind drift. That wind drift is the same that brings record breaking amounts of snow to Paradise at Mt. Rainer as it does to Mt. Baker ski resort. That wind and snow already hit Paradise but had more left in the tank to dump on Mt. Baker ski resort about 200Km north of Paradise. Welcome to Washington!!! You should check out Steven’s next ;) (my home mountain… I could also drive to Baker but I’m only an intermediate skier so there isn’t very much good terrain for me there :() Stevens also has a two-way lift! The terrain isn’t *quite* as gnarly, but there is still plenty of good stuff on Double Diamond/Southern Cross and 7th Heaven.

@ it does haha! It’s a good ole fixed-grip two-seater that basically goes up the side of a cliff. (It’s actually the steepest lift in North America!)

Oof, had a similar wet day at WB this season. Was pouring water out my boots by the end of the day 😂. But as you probably know it recovered reeeal fast. I wonder if conditions at baker also got better. The dream is to catch baker on one of their legendary mega dumps 🥹. Guess you're just gonna have to keep going back haha.

Never been to Baker. Pretty interesting looking old school mountain, I love those. To me they have some kind of magic and feeling you just can't get at fancier areas. Don't get me wrong I like those too but it's just not the same thing. Baker looks like it has some pretty gnarly terrain to explore in better conditions and I bet Baker is just spectacular on a post dump blue sky day, you can just feel it. Welcome to the states buddy I hope you have a fantastic visit full of no lines pow and blue skies!

the terrain is sick, and no lines on weekdays at all. super agree on the old school magic thing. slow diesel lifts, no safety bars, minimal grooming,

Great video, thanks bro!! But now I’m wondering are the conditions just shitty at baker?? I’ve been twice, one time it was solid ice and the next time there was so much fog and sleet I couldn’t see. And now your video, you are soaked to the bone, not a great experience on the slopes for sure. You definitely need to check out Bridger Bowl and also Silver Mountain on pow days.

It's probably too late for me to put this in comments, but I have great advice about gloves for wet weather: Forget about Goretex gloves. From Dave Searle's channel I learned what ice climbers use: "rubber" Japanese fishing gloves (actually polyurethane), in particular Showa's Model 282 Temres gloves. They are waterproof and breathable and, because their outer surface is polyurethane, they never wet out. And about Helly Hansen's Lifa Infinity Pro: I've owned one of their jackets with this material, and in spite of their claims that it never needs DWR treatment, I found it benefited greatly from Nikwax. It will probably still eventually wet out, but it will take much longer.

Awesome tips. Will check out those gloves.

Going to Baker for a week for my big trip this year in like a month. Which chair are you on at 19:16? The stuff to the right is the kind of stuff I'm going there for. Trying to get a game plan going. Your video is a sign from the ski gods that I must go.
