Awesome video capturing the stoke this day - people were just super smily and even not too angry about the lift lines (and yes they were big, but manageable with a few smart choices). I skied this day along with several die hard Whistler skier friends. We all agreed that it was possibly the best day in the past few years. The only things that could make it better were: 1) more base and 2), less people! (good luck on a Saturday!) Early morning camp of Whistler Gondola got us up by 9AM. 3 Emerald laps before the crowds got really bonkers, then made executive decision to camp the Harmony lift line. About 35 mins later, it opened. We were probably chair 80 to get up: straight over to our favourite place which was Sun Bowl: it's a bit off the radar and the tricky entrance keeps people away. Pretty much only a handful of tracks down it. Repeated this in Harmony for another great Sun bowl run, then followed by a straight shot under Harmony: mostly cut up, but some nice 5-10 turn stashes here and there. Then over to Symphony where we skied right onto the lift (no lineup for our first two runs?????) and a few Rhapsody bowl laps. By that time, we were pretty cooked and it was 2pm. A quick Harmony hit to Little Whistler (still lots of fresh pow there) and finish the day with some coffees at Roundhouse. Total vert was over 6000m of pow. Unreal day... Sunday didn't suck and then they got another 30cm+ on Tuesday with sun here and there. BTW: I wear knee pads on days like that day - just so much stuff under the snow when the base is still thin and you're in the trees :) Great video as always and fun to see the comradery with your buddies!
@riseandalpine11 ай бұрын
Dude. I think you won the Whistler flow for the day. It's insane how good a day is when you can line up the chairs and laps like you did. I should follow you around for a day hahaha.
@noelbuckley11 ай бұрын
Yeah, sometimes it works out well and sometimes it doesn't. I have had the opposite too, like 1+ hour lineups on 7th. Pretty much this exact weekend last year (MLK 2023), the 7th lineup was INSANE... Jan 6th We avoided Peak chair on purpose. Xmas trees / west bowl, etc.. were probably all amazing. But Symphonie is way less busy and has amazing skiing and when it's deep, we just want it deep and untracked for as long as possible, regardless of terrain :)

Yeah base was barely a meter: still thin in places, even if the snow has drifted over two feet deep in some spots. But there were creeks galore all over the place, even higher up. Skiing in the bottom of bowls and in the trees, you had to be careful: lots of 4-5' deep holes around. Good news is that these two dumps got the base up 50-60cm!

whistler needs to update their lift infrastructure to at least compete with 100s of mid-tier european resorts on the world stage. Waiting more than 10 minutes for a old crappy chairlift from the 80s is unacceptable, especially when you're charging 5-10x the amount of a european ski resort at 150 pre-sale, and 300cad day of. Example resort twice the size of whistler in europe is about 50-60CAD for a day pass the day of and about 300CAD per night for a ski out hotel actually on the slope. This is the reason why you see more backcountry skiers in NA and why Europe wins every Olympic medal in skiing. People don't want to wait in lines all day for a 4 person old chairlift that isn't suited for -25C with heavy wind. Great channel though watch and like every vid!
