My old girl lived to 12 years. Such a great dog. My have another that I also got for a discount because he has some white markings so not a perfect blue. I am getting him scheduled for neuter and a gastropexy in a month or two (I was quoted $300-500).

Our first family dog was a great dane. He was just like Hobbs❤ I was 6 at the time he arrived and 16 when he died. I never had such bond with any of my other dogs later on. They are truly amazing ❤

Hobbs is beautiful! 😍 We had a boxer who was always social with other dogs and lived with two much smaller dogs. An attack from two large dogs at the dog beach left her fear reactive towards all dogs but our own. We spent a lot of time in training after this incident so i could confidently manage her on walk and keep everyone safe. Poor darling had emergency surgery for bloat at 9 years of age; the outcome was good but i would recommend preventing this if possible. It was so scary!!!

My dad always had dogs when we where growing up, we had 3 Dobhermen pincthers they won a few shows where kc registered...my dad took a heart attack in our yard who was at home alone, our mother Dobhermen cleared the fence into our neighbour & she barked & barked our neighbour knew that wasn't normal behaviour for shadow so he happened to try put shadow back in our yard he seen the other 2 Dobhermen licking dads face he called an ambulance the surgeon said cos of shadows actions she saved dads life!..im from Ireland myself & just seeing your dog with ur little son is adorable! Ive recently moved and would love another dog but i have 2 Dobhermen they are my priority

Sadly my boys (litter bros.) had back problems. The first one died just days before his 9th birthday. He had lost control of the bowel and you can't just pick him up (at 180 lbs +) to take him out. His brother twisted his back trying to get into the car and died a year and a half later. I was crushed and swore off the breed. Five years ago we got Ella from a breeder who breeds for health first, longevity, and temperament. Last September we brought Spencer (blue harlequin) home at 8 weeks. If you want a long lived companion choose a breeder that does not breed for show but for health. Also get the "Gastroplexy" surgery, if nothing else it gives peace of mind that you've done everything. We feed all of our dogs, including the short Pitties, with their bowls elevated. Have fun with Hobbs. Get another when he gets old so you'll never be without a Dane.

Yeah I couldn't get a Great Dane it would break my heart with them passing away so quickly, not to mention the extreme cost in medical bills. Consider getting a doggo Argentina next similar size, stronger bite, and more energetic. But you have to have a strong will... And you can get the def ones cheap.

We have a 1 yr. Old American fawnaquin, she doesnt quality for show dog either but whatever right-She is 110lbs she is the best dog i have ever had.. your pup Is beast!!! Love it bruah

When I was a kid, my dad had a big black male, named Afi. The dog also got attacked by a male golden retriever. A real crazy one. The result of that attack was, that Afi hated golden retrievers. But only golden retrievers, not any other breed, male or female..

I couldn't get a Great Dane, I took care of two that were my neighbors, the dogs are too much for my neighbor, he didn't have the willpower to earn their respect. I was only a middle schooler at the time, but I didn't fear them, I even had to get my little Yorkie out of one of their mouths, my yorkie's fault for biting off more than he could chew. But since I took care of the Great Danes when the owners were gone, the Great Danes respect me enough to give me back my Yorkie alive.😅 But it would break my heart to own one they have so many health problems and their lives are so short... So I'm getting a Doggo Argentina, does a adult I've been able to get pitttss to obey offffer leash, and not to react to other distractions or dogs. So I'm confident I can do the same with the Doggo Argentina. They happen to be one of the least inbred breeds as they are less than 100 years old and it is quite common for them to live to 12 to 14 years with non kibble raw and cooked meat. They also have no genetic problems except for deafness at birth due to their coat being white. As the gene is responsible for both. I have done years of research before gowing through with the buy. Going to get a male, and name him Y.T.😅 Anybody get the joke?

I've seen great danes many times because I had a neighbor who's obsessed with them. She won't do without a great dane so when one dies of old age, she gets another one.

As far as regrets, we had him at a party around a small dog that kept humping him for the whole day. Later, when around other dogs, Reuben would stop on command, but he adopted that behavior which I wasn’t expecting.

Would you consider trying a Gentle Leader instead of the spike collar? I could control my boy with one hand with the Gentle Leader, but you can’t have a leash over 6 feet long, if they run it could break their necks with a longer leash.

Hi, how is his behavior with other dogs? I have three dogs, a cane corso and two shepherds, and I would like to insert a male great dane All my dogs are males, and they are not castrated. How do you see this situation. I love so much this breed.

Honestly I don’t think I can offer an educated opinion because I’ve never had more than one male. No matter the breed, unfixed males are a toss up on if they get along. Hobbes is not fixed but he is our only dog so it’s hard for me to say.

Had 6 danes - No 4 bloated and since, the last 2 girls had their stomachs stitched to ribs at spaying . Our last one lived to 11 ! There is nothing like a Dane !!!! PS : No 4 did survive the bloat surgery ! 🩷
