Thank you for making this guide! I have no idea what happened, but when I finally unlocked him, I absolutely bodied him - no questions asked - on my first fight with him ever. I lost the next 4-5 rounds and was very confused. This guide is exceptionally helpful and I really appreciate all the effort you put in - the information, editing, and presentation all came together to be entertaining and informative.

Ah, I'm late to the party. Got a few tips: 1) You can tell if Valstrax will use the double stab or stab-spin by seeing how long he takes to thrust his first wing. If the first stab comes out fast, he'll spin, and if it comes out late, he will double. The best way I find to dodge the spin in close range is to the second part. The wing's hurtbox doesn't actually appear until a bit later, well after the motion starts. If you're in front of his face (from dodging the stab), the starting part of the spin will not hurt you, so just relax. Just watch his wing carefully to it when it comes back around. It's a good method to dodge it because afterwards, he always taunts (throws his head back), so you can line up a good smack in that time. Always try and follow his motion to hug his head. he will move away from his starting wing's side. 2) His front-flip dunk is signalled by him screaming _while_ running forwards. I don't believe his body has a hurtbox in this, so you can just run under him. Also, it's actually quite slow and has bad tracking, so you can actually outrange it by walking through him. It will miss. He nearly always follows with a dash though, which WILL be followed by the dive, and not a second dash. 3) The feint-slam is always followed up with another move. If you are close to him, he will do the big swipe, which you can dodge by walking into him (or just Iframing). I like being risky, and rolling away from the wing, cause I end up at his head when it's over. 4) If you see him use his double leaping wing-slam in amped state, he will always taunt afterwards. Bait it out, and hit him. 5) The Risen ambush's carpet bomb is actually quite sparse. There are tons of empty spaces around, and you can walk out of them in case one falls on you. Afterwards, you can dive in the same direction as Valstrax to be closer to it. 6) Risen Valstrax has very few attacks in which it will NOT chain. One of these is the double wing slam, so just try to identify them. 7) The Burning spin's finisher stab has very few lingering hitboxes, and doesn't track too well. Just roll diagonally towards Valstrax. There's a cue where his charging wing rises slightly.

This monster was the reason I put on evade extender for the first time in 300 hours. I only use EE1 personally but it's such a huge qol increase for this fight.

I found an awesome way to get past his charged wing stab using lance. Absolute guard the initial spin, wait a moment then skyward thrust OVER his stab and slam on the wing, avoiding the stab entirely and doing good damage on his charged wing.

My biggest piece of advice for this fight is to sync audio cues for his attacks, and learning how to dodge them. A lot of the time you should be dodging about 1/2 a second prior to his audios for his given attacks, and in the direction that best lets you follow up. Since base Val and risen Val share a ton of similar motions, you can practice these dodges on that iteration before going to risen. Mastering these dodges allow you to forego high levels of evasion, evade extender, and some defense. Also I’m not sure if it’s different for risen, but when Valstrax is amped, he loses his elemental weaknesses, so it might be beneficial to use blast or raw damage

This is a nice guide, it deserves way more views than it has. Any chance there will be one for Risen Shagaru at some point?

Only thing that sucks is I feel defense is useless against Afflicted Risen Crimson Valstrax. The investigation 241 fight is so friggin tough.

chest charge always happens whenever he's not charged up. AI prioritizes charging ASAP. things that knock him out of charged state include: wyvern ride, KO, hellfire, him using ambush, and a prior chest explosion. anytime valstrax gets up just assume he's gonna chest charge. which brings us to the actual best way to fight valstrax. Just memorize the chest scripts and bring frostcraft and either GS, strength hammer, or DBs and don't let him get up in the first place. or just chop feet with DBs because they always keep the 25 element hitzone no matter the charge. Idk why you people bother making guides while knowing so little about the game.

You know, some of the information you offer here isn't terrible. Other than "Just don't let him get up lol". I bet people REALLY enjoy your company. People are falling all over themselves to spend time with smug pricks. If you're actually looking to help, then insulting the target of your "help" is one of the dumbest things you can do. I don't know why you chose to bother making a comment while knowing so little about interacting with people. Better yet, why don't you just make a guide?
