If he can pass a law to say Rwanda is a safe country, surely he can just pass another law to say that NHS waiting lists have been abolished.

Lee Anderson had a political career as a Labour counsellor. I presume he saw more personal advantage in switching to the Conservatives. I suspect he will now migrate to Reform UK. I see him as an archetypal "what's in it for me" politician.

There are already Nurse Practitioners & Nurse Consultants who have a grounding in health care. I have experience of how useless some graduates can be. It's frightening to give someone health care responsibilities just because they have a degree in another discipline.

Nurses who are motivated have been restricted for decades. A base or first degree doesn't mean they haven't done clinical modules, often above what some doctors have done. A nurse can now be trained to prescribe, I understand a PA cannot. Ideally, we need transition for all health professionals who choose to change or advance direction. Most of these share post grad training with doctors.

@WhichDoctor1

Surely waiting till the autumn will render the Rwanda bill pointless. Because either they won’t have gotten it working by then and will look utterly incompetent. Or they will have gotten it working and everyone will have had enough time to see that it’s utterly ineffective. If they want to use this bill for anything they have to jump now while it’s still a hot issue and before it inevitably fails

The Rwanda policy started two years ago with Nigel Farage at the south coast filming people landing on the beaches in small boats. Two years later we have this ridiiculous policy, which shows more than anything the influence Farage has on the Tory party. Does anyone really believe Lee Anderson's constituents in Derbyshire care more than anything else about boats landing on the beaches of the south coast, I would suggest they care more about the cost of living, getting a doctors appointment etc.

That's true. I wondered why a new profession appeared when so many nurses leaving through lack of career progression, often working for GPs in primary care who do as few updates as possible & have no clue on nurse grading, skill mix, and nurses motivated to help patients by doing advanced training beyond that in a medical degree.

Time to wake up but GP’s are a think of the past, primary care in 15 years will be dominated by nurse and paramedic practitioners who will be able to offer same day appointments, telephone triage and referral services to “consultants”. You simply do not need to see a Dr in primary care initially and the clinical assessment and diagnostic skills of advanced practitioners is second to none. Not a popular option but anyone who thinks primary care will be saved by more Dr’s is delusional when the majority do not work even close to full time hours in their practice. This underplaying of the clinical ability/safty of advanced practitioners/physician associates also needs to stop, they are amazing clinicians who don’t skip basic observations and certainly know when someone is bug sick better then most GP’s.
