Mischa Barton rose to fame in 2003 as she played Marissa Cooper on the hit show, The O.C. At the tender age of 17, Mischa became an overnight sensation who was put on a pedestal and idolized by many. But with the fame, attention, and adoration came a dark side. After years of being coveted in the press, the press would turn on Mischa and rip her to shreds eventually running the starlet out of Hollywood. This is the story of Mischa Barton.

The Young Turks talking about how her “cellulite” is gross to them and how she should join some run is appalling. The dude on the left isn’t thin, that’s a big guy. Unbelievable. It’s disgusting how much women are criticized.

I don't think people realize that the early years of the young Turks was quite different than it is today (I realize that probably also ages me😅) Part of it is because of how the internet was at that time as well. It wasnt the only one that had toxic messages but at least some of it has improved

I can't believe he thinks any apology he makes would mean anything to the women he built his career on trying to destroy. He was the worst of the worst during a time when the paparazzi was particularly cruel. He doesn’t deserve forgiveness, especially since he's just trying to polish his reputation after how abused Britney Spears was became public. He loved ripping these women apart, and no one should forget how much pleasure he took in trashing them every day for years.

I was legitimately shocked when that came up I was like “wtf even are these monsters?? They’re NO prizes, they’re not even consolation or participation ribbons!” 😱🤯🤢🤮 I never watched the show or was interested in Misha but hearing how she was treated truly breaks my heart. Billy’s will pick the easiest target and she was, even the cast of the OC when they’re on their self important video chat, “I didn’t see anything so idk” beetches her experience wasn’t about you! Take offense on the parts that weren’t about you and she was in the thick of what the producers were talking about you have no dean if they threatened her position in the show Bilson! Ahhh I’m so angry I just got the hiccups! 😅😅 That’s sooo awesome she won her case against her ugly ex’s!! 💘💘 that’s tragic, no one should ever experience that. The most foul types of humans, scum. I hate to say but I really hope their mothers aren’t alive to see what they produced. All the good blessing to this woman and I hope she prospers from now on.❤

Shame on Rachel Bilson, who played Summer from The OC, who downplayed, dismissed, and retaliated against Mischa coming forward with her horrible experience on The OC. Rachel downplayed Mischa's abuse during one of her podcast episodes (that she hosts with the woman who played Marissa's mom on The OC) & it's sad and deplorable to see a fellow woman try to take away from Mischa's trauma. By the way, Rachel is still best friends with The OC's creator which is part of the reason that she's denying Mischa's abuse. Sad and disgusting.

Some things that got me thinking; it almost seems she was punished? For leaving the oc?? I was a child in the 2000s but I don’t understand how the paparazzi went after her even more after leaving the show if her fame took off cuz of the show. She was a smart talented pretty girl who knew her worth, while probably naive and vulnerable but she knew her worth and power and it seems anytime she tried to reclaim it or stand up, she was punished. To me is seems that hollyweird takes down anyone’s that doesn’t willingly open themselves up to the exploitation. That’s why they love children, because children can’t defend themselves yet by if you groom them young enough they’ll never know how.

I watched the first ten or fifteen minutes of this, stunned that I'd never once heard her voice before today (It's so much deeper that I expected, plus a strange accent) and then fell down a google rabbit hole looking up her and all her contempories. I had NEVER HEARD of any of them besides minor name recognition!! I'm about ten years older than this crew, and I never watched OC, One Tree Hill, The Hills, etc. What was I doing in the mid-2000s?? LOL. I watched the rest of your video, and really enjoyed your unbiased presentation of her and her tabloid life. I have such a newfound respect for ANYONE who lived through that era and came out relatively unscathed. Britney, Paris, all the people named who were hounded relentlessly by the press at that time was disgusting. Thanks again for another AMAZING informative video of some B list celebrities... I also found her accent very interesting and unique. See, I grew up watching the OC faithfully, I loved that show when it came out. But then when she left I didn’t really keep up with what was going on with her because believe it or not I wasn’t into pop culture. I do remember how she was targeted and harshly judged by the media around that time like Britney, Lindsay, Nicole Richie etc…that time period in pop culture from what I vaguely remember of it, was brutal. I agree with you, the fact that she’s still acting and pursuing her talent given all that she’s been through is amazing. She seemed to be a very grounded person and I wish her all the best. 21:34 one thing I wish more ppl knew is about Good Samaritan laws. I'm a recovering heroin, fentanyl and crack addict (almost 4 years sober in July!) and I have saved 3 people from dying due to an overdose. I always had warrants out for my arrests (including when I called 911 for these 3 different instances) and while everyone else ran away in a panic I know my rights. The police don't come. Only the firefighters and ems. They don't ask you your name or anything unless it's about the person you called for. They started doing this because too many ppl will leave someone to die scared they're going to be in trouble and somehow held responsible. Please don't leave people to die. It's genetics, it's luck of the draw on skin density/fat deposit, it's normal, it is healthy. No amount of running exercise, losing weight, or surgery will change it. Ask Kim Kardashian. Love yourself and your amazing body What is wrong with these people. God bless Mischa for never giving in or giving up. I am rooting for her! Great episode! Thank you!

Thanks Bee for another informative documentary. I didn’t know much about Mischa Barton, I remember her as a child from The Sixth Sense but that’s all. It’s distressing and disturbing though what women in the public eye endure, the scrutiny of their bodies and lives. It’s as though only “perfection” will do but somehow even if someone comes close it’s still not enough for malicious gossips who delight in tearing others down. I always look forward to your videos, thanks for your hard work, it shows!

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have been requesting a video on Mischa to other channels as well but only you and Deep Dive listened to my request. I have loved her since The O.C. and it's a pity to see how the media and people around her treated her. There are so many videos on Britney, Lindsay, Paris, Nicole, Demi, but no one really talks about Mischa and what she endured ever since she was a child. I knew you would make an amazing documentary on her with all the facts and thorough research. Once again thank you for listening to my request.

Fabulous video as usual, Bee! Comprehensive and balanced. I feel so bad for Mischa - that video of her in her backyard was just so heart-breaking. A lot of women, unfortunately, have gone through what she went through (breakdowns, being drugged, etc) but her fairly normal ups and downs of life were just broadcast everywhere for money. Bless her heart. I pray she is in a much better place in life now.

@@voyaristika5673 that's an unreasonable expectation you're setting for people. Not only does it show how incredibly blind you are to your personal faults and development, but it also demonstrates that you have no sensitivity for everyday struggles and how life is basically nothing more than ups and downs for everyone. You seem like someone that is quick to excuse your own behaviour when confronted with the repercussions of your hurtful actions, as and when they occur, but are unable to extend that same grace to others when they've hurt you. Think of it like this; Barton literally followed wherever the winds of her faith took her, beginning from childhood. How the fuck was she supposed to anticipate her Hollywood succes at that time? And what was she supposed to have done in order to 'take the responsibility' and avoid having her own pain and suffering picked up by immature kids in the audience she didn't even know? Stop living in a made up fantasy world if you want to talk about responsibility

@@someones_daughter_ My sister became obsessed with the show; we're also Slavic women she loved the name Misha. She was a huge fan, would buy everything she wears, collect all of her photos and collages and then slowly started restricting to look more like her ...but then later on she was interested in other things and other people. Yet the eating disorder remained the same. Chicken or the egg right?

@@poshdelux huh, is that what your parents tell themselves? I don't know what it's like to be a fangirl myself but I hope she will find a way to tame the chaos in her mind and grow through it all. I would much rather put some of the responsibility on marketing and Hollywood managers that force these 'beauty standards' onto performers, they're the ones who are fully aware of the effects operating in the shadows, it's literally their job to talk them into these awful diets, outfits, makeup, you name it. Do you actually believe that a full time actress who spends days rehearsing and working on set has the time and energy to plan this out? It sucks for the gullible kids that struggle with finding their own path to adolescence and self acceptance, but I fully believe it takes a village to raise a child, i.e. teachers, family and maybe even neighbours. We'd do so much better if we would be able to stop kids from slipping into a distorted reality when we witness it, and build a personal safe space where they know there's someone there willing to listen without judging, letting them vent and battle destructive doubts alongside them. I've always wanted a sister, as an only child, an orhpan I was prematurely forced into the cold and indifferent reality of adulthood. But I'll always consider children innocent, even if they don't understand their own mind sometimes. I hope you have a wonderful night.

But then she mentioned that “communication was nonexistent” or similar… The poor girl. I only ever knew Mischa Barton as a name - not even a face, same with “The OC”. I think it goes to show just how profound and interesting your content is, that one can go in knowing nothing about the topic and feel like it was very worth the time. ❤

Yep comes down to parents. I never heard of her. Only thing I ever saw her in was Sixth Sense but had no idea who she was. Hollywood is a business. It's a job. Maybe her parents should have told her no when she was a kid. ( I am one of people who thinks kids shouldn't be supporting their families ). At some point people need to take responsibility for there actions, too.
