Couple corrections: - Winning a war does not grant the Harvest Reward listed on that Province. - On their turn, players draw 4 Mandates, not 3.

Also, the review gave the impression that using Ronin in a battle will consume them - this is not so. If you win "Hire Ronin" you add all your Ronin to your force, and can do this again in subsequent battles provided you win "Hire Ronin".

you can't break alliances "at will". They can only be broken during a season with the betray mandate. Otherwise, you're allied until the next tea ceremony, which has implications for the war phase (you don't battle if it's just you and an ally in a territory).

At 8:35 you say each player picks up 3 mandates and chooses one, but you actually pick up 4 mandates off the stack and choose 1.

Hey Jeremy, you did a video about Gaia Project vs Terra Mystica. I really liked that vs video. Is it an idea to do the same with Rising Sun vs Twilight Imperium 4th edition? Or do you think the games are incomparable this way?

I think that comparison might be a little off. I think a very interesting conversation could be had with Blood Rage vs Rising Sun though.

During Mandate turns you draw 4 tiles not 3, as per page 13 of rulebook, may want to add a note to that.

Oh that's great and also disheartening news. I haven't received any shipping info or package or anything and have been checking Kickstarter every day and all I've seen were European fulfillments and US backers announcing they haven't received anything yet. My apologies everyone.

All the people I know got shipping notifications and then their game showed up a day later. So I wouldn't worry too much about not having shipping notification yet. There are 30,000 copies being shipped worldwide after all.

Backers on the east coast and some in the midwest has gotten it. The copies came over on 3 different cargo ships. The last one, the "Hangzhou Bay Bridge" carrying the final 6 (out of 14) shipping containers docked in Norfolk, Virginia on the 23rd. The first ship with the first 4 containers, the YM Upsurgence, arrived 3 weeks ago. I'm guessing the people who got their pledges got copies that came off of the Upsurgence and west coast backers and retailer backers won't get their pledges for another couple of weeks while CMON waits for the rest of the copies from the Bay Bridge to arrive at their warehouse.

In this game, there are some gorgeous figures, which you can do some things with. Cards are there too; they're good. Lots of ongoing abilities, everyone likes those. You can take advantage of a track: Spring, Summer, and Autumn. Once the game ends, you pass the stack until it's over!

Also good to know that having low honor can sometime be good. Some monsters and Clans benefit from having low honor. The Oni of Skulls benefits from you having low honor giving you 3 force with him on a province he is in that has you as the lowest honor. Oni of Blood in your team protects you because players with higher honor then you cannot move to his province or summon non monsters there. Oni of Spite steels points from everybody that has higher honor then you on a province and Oni of hate kills every shinto and bushi from people with higher honor. I like the balance of it that you can still benefit from having low honor. Specially when you start at low honor.

Tough to start off a video saying “visually this isn’t representative of what you’ll get”. Sort of like a car commercial where they show you fully loaded and then list the price for stripped down. Especially since this review will have more influence over non KS backers towards buying...

Two weeks ago, we started playing diplomacy with 7 colleagues. After playing three rounds, just three rounds, our friendship was put to a test. We decided to stop playing it as it influenced our personal life, our work etc. The backstabbimg aspect of diplomacy is really harsh. Do you think that the betray aspect here would ruin friendships in a similar way as diplomacy?

At 6:29 you state you get the benefits of the region when you win a war. That is incorrect. You just gain the tile for the province.

The ability to make alliances is usually a big negative for me often making games unbalanced and mainly there to offset weak gameplay .... hopefully not in this case....

We didn't feel this way at all. There were times when the alliances we chose came back to bite us in the butt!

"In Blood Rage the most experienced player will crush new players"... Where is this different from most strategy games, including Rising Sun?

I haven't played RS (yet!) and I know what you mean. I think this is always a consideration with strategy games that don't have a lot of luck. In my experience with BR, new players can make particularly bad choices during the draft, specifically. If new players let more experienced players have certain combinations of cards in BR then those players will absolutely crush. However, I imagine there will be somethng simialr in RS. Chaos in the Old World is the same way. Not only will the inexperienced player loose, but they may directly help another palyer win through their inexperience.

That is true but it's intensified with a draft. Drafting poorly sets you up for complete and utter failure. I don't mind that in my games....I've played enough competitive CCG's and LCG's to know how to build a deck, but those who don't almost always suffer, or set the player up to their left/right.

After playing Rising Sun its just a lot harder to score points in the game so beating someone by 10 points doesn't seem like a lot but in Rising Sun it is, where in Blood Rage so many things score you points loosing by 10 just isnt that big of a deal at all.

Well, the point scale of the two games is very different. Each player scores a lot more points in Blood Rage. The less points a games allows its players to score, the tighter the games tend to be. I haven't played Rising Sun yet. I backed it. Considering my tastes in games, I hardly believe that I will like Rising Sun more. It begins with the fact that it looks to be better at 5-6 players, and I'm not a big fan of large player counts. As far as unforgivng games for noobies, maybe I never looked at Blood Rage like that, since other games in my collection come to mind. Food Chain Magnate, Kemet or Roll for the Galaxy come to mind. Or a game like VAST, where a new player can completely unbalance a session.

In your particular case player count may play a much stronger role then. Where a 3 or 5 player game sounds like more fun for me, if you're always the odd man out, then I would shoot for a 4 (or 6) player game. In a 4 (or 6) player game, someone else will be "suffering" along with you if they choose not to align with you. This will make negotiations between those other 3 (or 5) players that much more interesting. The player left out after negotiations, depending on how their previous alliances have gone or how well they are currently doing in the game, could significantly change the likelihood of them choosing to aligning with you. And if they don't, well you aren't helping anyone with your actions either. That hurts everyone else. I don't think this would be a game breaker for me if I were in your shoes.

The components look amazing, but hearing that this was inspired, so much, by Diplomacy just turned me off of it. I still have nightmares about Diplomacy even after all of these years.

This was the most absurd ran KS campaign I've seen to date. You HAD to buy the $50 expansion in order to have matching components (tiles vs 3D models). That's ridiculous considering the base pledge was already $100.

I hate games with diplomacy and thats why I stayed away from it. It looks like is not that bad after all.

I hope people look past the diplomacy!! It's not the primary driving factor within the game. The game is so solid on its on.

Played the game about a dozen times and honestly I’m not that impressed. I agree with all your points about it being a tight game with almost no fluff and mechanically it’s pretty decent. But there is something missing in Rising Sun that makes me start to doze off everytime we play it now. This is coming from someone who enjoys more 4x based board games so take what you will from that but RS is a soft pass for me.

I would typically agree - I love my games that can accommodate two as well. However the minimum here is necessary and it feeds into the eco-system, economy, mandates and alliances within the gameplay. It's such an easy game to teach and play and it's quick so we didn't see it as an issue at all.

Not in this case. The mini's definitely enhance the visual appeal of the game but the gameplay is KING in Rising Sun and it's super solid so I 100% disagree.

I did listen to the review. I have already watched run through for this game and I have 2 friends that bought it. I was never keen on it. Just wanted to listen to the channel's perspective. I'm not a big fan of Eric Lang's designs. But, hope you enjoy the game.

Nain1982 Even if you don't like the game, I'm not sure how the take-away could possibly be "minis & minis. That's it." There are unique & new game mechanics at play here using a relatively fresh theme. It's almost anything other than just a pile of minis. But I suppose that's how opinions work.
