Thx so much for sharing this! the Terra Nova was my last whitewater run. It was a spontaneous day trip with Mark Dykeman, Mike Noftall, Mark (?) and me ...The water levels were super high and I still have a lumpy scar on my right ring finger where I bashed my hand when stuggling to adjust to the sheer strength of the river - I patched it up with duct-tape and went on. The highlight of the trip was Stuart's Staircase. The rooster tail pushed me river left, but I still made it down the backdoor upright! I was never so tired and exhilarated when we pulled out at Spencer's Bridge and Mike had the beer chilled. Appreciate the shout outs to the founders of the sport in NL - I had the privilege of working with Jim for 5 years and we always took our boats with us on work road trips (you wouldn't be allowed to do what we did these days...lol); he had infinite patience with a late-beginner - but he'd tell you straight! Also, how may times would Mark flash by and say something like 'never thought you'd be doing this, eh?' as we surfed waves off the southern shore. good memories brought back by a great video. thx! Anna Myers (better remembered as Anna Buffinga)

In the early 1990’s my husband and I drove from Connecticut to Newfoundland with our whitewater boats. My husband called Jim Price for some advice about rivers, and Jim invited us to run the Terra Nova with him and his friend Jamie. He checked us out on a small rapid near the camp site and the next day we ran the river. I walked a couple of drops and otherwise managed to remain upright in my OC-1. It was my most memorable day on a river. Jim came to visit us in Connecticut on his way south one time. We stayed in touch. I still cannot believe that he is no longer with us.

Great video, thanks for sharing. How long did it take to get the empty boat back after Mark's Drop?
@NewfoundlandKayakCompany4 жыл бұрын
Hi Denis. I can't recall exactly but probably about 30 or 40 minutes. There is a pool below the rapid where 10% of the water goes over a big drop. 90% chance it ends up in an eddy. We were 90% lucky. Lol

Richard, Did you run the falls at Starlight and into Spring Pool?
@NewfoundlandKayakCompany5 жыл бұрын
No we didn't. We carried around that falls and Big Falls down from the community of Terra Nova. We ran everything in between. The falls you mention has been run in whitewater kayak but it is not "Tamden Canoe Friendly" Not even realistic to try it in a tandem canoe.
