I have this OST on vinyl, and it includes a really cool message from Chris himself (I hope it's okay I post this?): "Looking for inspiration for this text I revisited the very first email I got from Hopoo, Dated February 4th, 2013. Reading through the thread I found early discussions on style and genre, the first music demo (A draft of the titular track), working out the kinks of crowdfunding, amateur contract negotiations, talks about game mechanics, more demos, an early draft of album art, final tracks, final-final tracks, absolutely-final tracks, ultimately-final-remastered-v2 tracks, a release date, and finally, the actual launch of the game. The emails contain many facts about the making of the album. But -- As Werner Herzog would say -- despite all the facts, the emails contain none of the truth. There is no mention of my one-room-fits-all living conditions, my strictly-noodles diet, my struggling PC, the time spent blankly looking at the screen, the books I've read, the long walks I've taken, my long-distant girlfriend, my ex-long-distant girlfriend... You don't have access to my emails so you can't get the facts. But you are holding this album in your hands, and trust me, if you pay close attention to the music, you will hear its truth. Thank you for listening

@@SmoothTurtle840 Deadbolt has a great OST as well. I only recently started collecting vinyl, and the RoR2 OST was my first one actually. It's what inspired me to start collecting. I saw the inkspot version and had to find one. Ended up paying way too much for the only one listed that I could find, but hey, it's mine now! Worth it.

The track named 25.3N 91.7E is the coordinates of a region in India called Cherrapunji, which is known as the wettest place on Earth. In just one month (July 1861) they got over 30 feet of rain, which is insane
@kevinwells9751
@kevinwells9751 2 жыл бұрын
Also yes, that isn't a typo, not 30 inches, 30 feet. An average of about a foot a day for that whole month. Even an average July there gets almost 9 feet of rain. No wonder he used that as one of his references to rain

For those who don't know, Chanson D'Automne is actually a Poem from Paul Verlaine, a French Poet. Its verse has been used in WWII to command secret orders to the resistance in France! Surprisingly enough, its verses stick perfectly to the song's melody! Les sanglots longs (The long sobs) Des violons (Of violins) De l’automne (Of autumn) Blessent mon cœur (Wound my heart) D’une langueur (With a monotonous) Monotone. (Languor.) Tout suffocant (All breathless) Et blême, quand (And pale, when) Sonne l’heure, (The hour sounds,) Je me souviens (I remember) Des jours anciens (The old days) Et je pleure (And I cry;) Et je m’en vais (And I go) Au vent mauvais (In the ill wind) Qui m’emporte (That carries me) Deçà, delà, (Here, there,) Pareil à la (Like the) Feuille morte. (Dead leaf.)

The beginning of Coalescence still gives me such emotion. It has this sadness to it that has remained in my head ever since the first time I played it, and it was only compounded after I read all the logbooks and understood the gravity of the situation. There are no heros in Risk of Rain. Providence may be the "bulwark" of endangered species, but as we walk through the remains of the UES and all those that died aboard, he is no hero. Just a madman who likes his pets. And we, stepping away from the hoard of animals we have slaughtered, marching towards Providence, our next victim, are no hero or villian. We're a survivor. That word is specific. We just want to live. We just want to get home. This is no conquest, no grand victory. All there is for us is survival. Even the end credits say it, "And he left, with everything but his humanity."

This was really a mind blowing soundtrack for an indie game to ship with, especially when i picked it up all the way back in 2014 The way that Chris establishes a motif and plays on that in a lot of the tracks is really masterful. I love how well paced each of the tracks is, right as you're hitting the climax of a level is when the songs tend to reach a fever pitch with the wailing guitar. It's perfect. He also really captures the feelings of the environments for some of these tracks, i am instantly transported back to those environments when i hear them.

A theme of all the personnel of that one giant cargo ship becoming a part of this whole tragedy. There's something I want to say, and I get the feeling it's not going to be a popular comment among Risk of Rain music fans here, but I still feel compelled to say it all the same. I follow someone who does a lot of remixes/covers of video game music, he's a really cool and humble dude and the music he creates is phenomenal. He received a lot of requests to do covers of Risk of Rain music, and he likes to learn more about the series and the composer before he gets into stuff like that. However, despite one song in particular being among the most requested songs he gets, something gave him pause for concern. He came across a Q&A from Chris Christodoulou, and one "question" was in response to a cover/remix of one of his songs, which was basically "it's fine, but what's the point?" This really struck the cover artist in a negative way, so much so he decided to hold off on Risk of Rain covers for a while. Then he came across Chris Christodoulou's FAQ page, which, among other things, say that IF someone were to do a remix/cover of his music, they can't monetize it whatsoever, and made a point to emphasize that they're "legally obligated" to be "creative". The worst bit comes at the bottom of the FAQ page, where he tells anyone who wants to be a composer to "stop listening and start reading", and wasted 5 questions basically being a smartass about what DAW he uses to compose his music, and doesn't even answer the question. Now... I never actually met Chris Christodoulou, but from what little I've heard from him, including on his own website, if I'm being perfectly honest... he comes off as an overly controlling, incredibly pretentious and condescending jackass. Not that he's not entitled do what he wants with his own music, that isn't really what bothers me, it's his attitude that's really a buzzkill. It's honestly why I was concerned that this stream might be in danger, though the FAQ did say that playing his music is fine, so long as you're either critiquing or talking about his music, and I think this qualifies. Still, it does make me feel awkward whenever I listen to his music... it's kind of like how I feel Koichi Sugiyama and Dragon Quest music, though at least Chris Christodoulou isn't a war crimes denier among other controversial things (also Sugiyama is dead now, so he doesn't have final say over his music and how it can be used anymore).

Chris is very sarcastic in replies and comments. I'd say your read is incorrect but I don't think it's irrational to get that impression. It seems to me like you've made a judgement based on other people's interactions with him, and I'd recommend you watch his Q&As to get his sarcastic side, then his album commentaries to get a more realistic perspective.
@Rubberman202
@Rubberman202 2 жыл бұрын
@@draconocor Sorry for the late reply, but I still don't really understand why he couldn't just saw what DAW he uses and instead felt the need to make up an imaginary person to swear and be a jerk to him just to refuse to answer the question. I suppose that's his "sarcasm", but it still rubs me the wrong way. I'm also not that much of a fan on how he views covers of his work. There's also the insistence to stop listening to music and start reading, like... Is he saying it's wrong to get into composing video game music because you like music? Strikes me as a little pretentious. And all of this is on his own website, so this is apparently what he wants people to know about him, front and center. I suppose it's a bit more nuanced than that, if you actually listen to his Q&As and listen to his commentaries, but I don't think it's a good sign of this is what you thought was a good first impression.

Hey MTfG! Just here asking if you could react to the Plants vz Zombies osts. Those are absolute masterpieces (Of course, the osts of the 1st game)

I just sort of ended up here because I really liked RoR 1. If you folks are looking for some more truly good and also weird osts to recommend to him: "Evergrace" and "Forever Kingdom" are just about as weird as you can possibly get while still being incredibly well-made and actually listenable and recognizable as music. I've heard a couple of music people just gush over these osts.

He should react to the Original 2002 Ratchet and Clank soundtrack, it’s very unique and interesting and would love to see it

Next: Risk of Rain 2 It has to be done, and in my mind is the better of the two soundtracks, especially with the Survivors of the Void OST.

It's definitely better in the same way someone performing for x amount of years vs themselves like 5 years of improvements later is, but I'd say this one has its own charm that makes it just as good as the Risk of Rain 2 soundtrack. I'd love to hear a remake from Chris of the soundtrack of the original game done in more of a RoR 2 style.

Only just heard this OST for the first time in Risk of Rain Returns and it goes HARD! I think I still prefer RoR2's OST overall but there are some real bangers here!
