Hey, just discovered your videos reacting to my music! First off, thanks, it’s fascinating to watch these! Thank you for the kind words! To your question, I’m doing it all, yes. The drums are the only thing that is strictly programmed (because I can’t fit a drum kit in my home studio) but being a drummer I spend a lot of time on them-otherwise everything else is just me performing. And Terra Pluviam means Land of Rain :) P.S. Seems like a lot of folks want to see Antarctic Oscillation and I definitely agree :p

Fun fact the dev's when they went to Chris for the first album of the game, they didnt know what they were doing for the final boss level, chris pitched con lentitud poderosa to them and they built the level around the music

This soundtrack is indeed insane. They Might As Well Be Dead from the new DLC quickly became my favorite track, which reprises the melody of Moisture Deficit from the first game. The first game's soundtrack is also beloved by fans, where Monsoon is my personal fave while Coalescence is a fan favorite that might be worth reacting to.

It’s so god damn good. It’s been years since a video games has had an OST that I can’t get out of my head. Dark cloud and little big planet are the others I can think of. But the risk of rain games might top them. There are so many good tracks here. They might as well be dead, A glacier eventually farts, face of the deep, the one I can’t pronounce and bigger ukulele. I’m just casually waking down the street not even listening to it yet I’m still humming along. Complete ear worms

chris makes everything on his own yes, and that is indeed him playing the guitar, he's super talented if you want another song to get lost to I suggest "The Raindrop that Fell to the Sky" (also every single track's titles are related to rain in one way, terra pluvium means land of rain in latin)

Part of why the game's soundtrack goes so damn hard is because players are on a time limit. While people can enjoy the OST on their own time outside of the game, when they're in-game and the music starts going hard as hell, that's when it's time to leave the level, and fast. It kind of acts like a timer, and the intensity grows as the difficulty does.
@GarylIl2 жыл бұрын
Yep... Risk of Rain 1 and 2's soundtracks are both just full of songs you will get lost in and just wonder where the time went when they're over. Mister Chris C did the soundtrack for both and he has commentary videos here on YT where he discusses the tracks while the OST plays and it's pretty amazing just hearing him talking about them. Paraphrasing, but one of the things he says is 'Nothing is unintentional,' and when you're listening it's like... yeahhhh XD There's also a pretty notable motif that goes on through most of the songs, not sure if you'll be able to hear it listening to them spaced out so much but it's a cool touch tying them all together.
@namofuseing2 жыл бұрын
This is a bit off topic, but I though of it while watching this video: I really like the dynamic of you blind reacting to songs from games, and then playing the game and experiencing them in context. (like you did with FF7R) I don't think I've seen anyone else do it, and I hope you do more.

@loofy5302 жыл бұрын
I think the two most important aspects of this soundtrack are evoking feelings of wonder and awe at the alien environment you've been put into, as well as to let you jam to the rhythm of the insanity and slaughter that's going on. Personally despite the chaos of the gameplay, I kind of find myself flying across the stages and killing to the beat in a state of absolute chill.
@marcopolo85842 жыл бұрын
"lost in it" "lost in space" "space and ruins" man if only you knew how true that was
@TheMongral2 жыл бұрын
Getting lost in the music for Risk of Rain 2 makes a lot of sense, since many of the tracks generally serve as stage tracks and usually go for a pretty chill, but simultaneously awesome sounding, vibe. Your initial interpretation of the theme is also totally spot on as well. The Super light on details explanation is essentially that you're a survivor of a spaceship crash, crashing on a strange alien planet, trying to find a way to escape and get home. Thus, feeling like you're in space, but also in some kind of ruins actually fits the games theming and setting perfectly.
@Casto39242 жыл бұрын
Allow me to add The "you're the survivor of a spaceship crash and you need to get home" is only true for the first RoR. In RoR2 you arrive onto the planet on purpose for a rescue mission to look for any remains of RoR1's "UES Contact Light" crew.

@Eogard Жыл бұрын
That's why I think video game is peak ART. It combines everything, like movies, but it also add interactivity. If you played Risk of Raid 1 & 2 you know that the game have it's own timer that gradually makes things harder. The soundtrack here is doing a similar job in a way. Each soundtrack is played in it's specific level from level 1 to level 5 I think then it loops around. But each level get your gradually more enemy spawns and enemy difficulty also rise up based on time. So you have two clocks, the overall gameplay loop and the level loop. Only the level loop and the time you spend on it have an impact on the soundtrack. You can very well go to the portal before the soundtrack end. And yet, I found myself taking more time to activate the portal because I was enjoying the soundtrack too much to end it too early (yes, I'm thinking of "The Rain Formerly Known as Purple" but "Terra Pluviam" is also charged with positive vibes for me as well). So the quality of the soundtrack and the emotions I felt at the time had a massive impact on how I played the game. It was more than a sound played in the background, it had a great impact and on a gameplay perspective for me. I CHOSE to wait instead rushing which is the meta thing to do, I took time to contemplate and enjoy that soundtrack, this music moved me deeply. It is THAT good. Anyway, I just discovered your channel today and I like your vibe. It made me nostalgic hearing this masterpiece again so you got a new subscriber. Wish you the best.

got any ideas around maybe sitting through the entire album of the first risk of rain's music, RoR 2's music often hints back at RoR 1 as a lot of stages are effectively 3d revamps of the original's 2d stages, and thats why the music also hints back

Both Risk of Rain games have really good "atmosphere". Heh heh. But seriously, one of the major design themes seems to be like, building tension, and the soundtrack is masterfully executed in that regard. What happens is kind of a space odyssey meets SCP foundation situation where the disparate and the desperate are forced into a divine drama and are woefully out matched until geared to the gills with artifacts and murdering a lot of aliens in self defense. I think Terra Pluviam is latin for uh.... "the Earth Rained"? I'm a terrible student of latin.
