As a result of posting my Civivi Durus, Ferrum Forge Mini Archie, as well as the Mini Glimpse by Reate all with DIY paint jobs. My messages instantly amassed with questions on where, or how did I get these colors schemes on my scales. I decided, what better way could I explain my methods then to put together a short Rit Dye segment for the people with questions, as well as for those wanting to try and customize their scales themselves at home. The , Step by step walk through of my method used to achieve the color you want on your Knife scales, in a DIY fashion!! #TheFullerFanatic #metalcomplex #knifecenter #bladehq

Fantastic tutorial. Quick, straight to the point, good/clear voice, and knowledgeable. In only 4:46 minutes I got way more instructions, images and reason-why than what many KZbinrs give you after half an hour yapping and trying to sound cool behind the camera. Thank you.

About 7 mins or so but not long at all, the color will appear darker @ first, but let it swing over the steam for a sec and reveal it's true tint then proceed from there, I would start pulling at about 5mins just so you don't go past the color you want to achieve

Outstanding video!!! I have dyed a few G10 scales already. Mostly using Rit Dye More Racing Red and Sapphire Blue. I have a set of Spyderco Para 3 digicamo G10 scales that I wanted to dye using Rit Dye More Graphite to make them look like a black and grey urban camo. I used 3 cups distilled water, 1 cup distilled white vinegar and about 1/4 bottle of the RDM Graphite. Heated up to around 200 degrees and placed the scales in the mixture for about 30 seconds. Took them out, washed/cleaned them and they are dark brown. Wish I could post a pic here of them. Any helpful tips on how I can achieve a black and grey urban camo look? Thanks.

Btw, acetone and nitrile gloves don't mix. Acetone eats right through them and has a breakthrough time of only 4 minutes for 10 mil thick gloves (obviously shorter for thinner ones). Latex works well, but causes allergic reactions in some people. Butyl rubber is the best glove material for handling acetone as a solvent, but it is a little harder to come by and more expensive than latex. Just my .02

I usually see people use vinegar but notice you didn't. Does the process really need water? Hypothetically could you use straight rit dye for an even more vibrant color?
@THEFULLERFANATIC
@THEFULLERFANATIC 3 жыл бұрын
you can use whatever works for you, there is no set process, but using straight rit would make the color so dark it would look black, if its a darker color such as blue, purple, etc. idk what would happen with lighter colors such as yellow??

@THEFULLERFANATIC

depends on the material and the acetone's strength... a Pilar III's g10 would probably disintegrate into oblivion, but not a Para3 or steel craft would take a while 4 sure. Ive left my civivi odium scales in pure acetone for like 30mins no problem
