Loved it! I’ve been following Jake since he sang “The Anthem” in 2011. 🔥 And I was so inspired when he joined the “Holy Ghost” film with Darren Wilson. 🕊️

Jake is the best... He is a breath of fresh air and an original voice in the midst of a lot of copycats. Thanks for sharing this conversation.

This is so beautiful that you're being so honest, transparent and bold about the brokenness within ministry and the church... it is even true for layleaders and was one of the reasons why my husband and I decided to study somewhere other than where we were originally serving at a megachurch... the greater portion of the staff, etc., were talking the walk and NOT walking the talk... and to expand upon that was when I was hurt 💔 by my homechurch when my beloved husband was called home and instead of being truly supported I was handled... 🙏💔🙏

The problem with the whole system is that there is a stage in the first place. Part of the manuscript is that there are people on a stage “leading” people in “worship”.

I played bass with Jake one time at my church. Now I know why he rolled his eyes when afterward I said to him "Playing these things usually makes me nervous, but today I wasn't nervous at all". Love how basically raw and driven by 'first love' he is.

Sad part is there is a majority of leaders in church saying you should answer your call and put family on the altar. I’m so glad he shared his story, there are so many people that this has happened to and the church needs to prioritize people over a ministry.

Dr. Wayne Dyer is the person who said, "The most immature form of identity is to define yourself by what you do, what you have and what others say about you." According to the Google search engine, anyway.

We've made the pastor the 5-fold ministry, though God gave all 5 for the equipping of the saint.

I have heard “we are taking Redding for the Lord” for 25 years. What does Redding look like in reality? What does Jesus say about the end in Matthew 24, it’s not heaven coming to earth. God doesn’t conform to our image, we are supposed to be conformed to His (the suffering servant). We are supposed to be His unto death, not if He does things my way.

I agree we need more family focus but Didn't God tell the disciples to leave their families? Let's get this biblically, not just socially correct. Appreciate you Rita for bringing this up

1 Timothy 3:4-5 “He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect. (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?)”

Jesus said leave your fathers, mothers, etc. -- those who want to lean on us, impinging on our calling. He NEVER spoke about us leaving our responsibilities to our spouses and to our children. Peter was married and stayed in that relationship.

As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon possessed begged to go with him. But Jesus said, “No, go home to your family, and tell them everything the Lord has done for you and how merciful he has been. Mark 5:18

If God calls, He equips and He covers the family:wife and kids. However, if it's man called, there will be consequences. The early church met together as a family in houses for fellowship, food, Scriptures, etc. If every person witnessed to those in their realm of influence, we could take the world for the Lord without sacrificing our families

I'm only about 30 minutes in--having to work through this video slowly. It feels like a seed of hope. Thanks for sharing it. At 28:56 --I know a guy 🙋♂lol jk we do find even in nature though, like the Galapagos, places of wonder grow in obscurity (where they are not overwhelmed by man's footprints and passageways). I love the wild Oregon coastline for this reason. Once, I was at a prayer house for a while in California, and after a teaching on "submitting to authority"--I asked a worship leader (who I respected) how one would go about doing that in these places. Bless her soul, she said: "I don't know, I just go here." Idk if you guys get to that concept in this video--but just casting a penny in the well for maybe future conversations if not. What do men like Bill Johnson (not to isolate him specifically or anything) but even average pastors of influence--what do they mean when they expect others at their church to be in "submission" under their authority? And even Scripturally, we are called to submit to one another--what does that look like in today's church? We are often quoted "forsake not the assembly" and that is good and well--but then they do not finish the verse "exhorting one another, ever more"--that's the part we are not checking off with handshakes before a sermon or listening to Furtick give an impassioned speech for an hour. Without the actual interactivity in the body that the Spirit and the Apostles expected (1 Corinthians 14) I don't see how we can fulfill the verse of not forsaking the assembly or of submitting to one another.
