Great to hear Ritchie’s thoughts ! Another aspect of “contemporary music” is that it’s not always the case - in - “live performance” - that we’re hearing the singer “sing” - i.e. the performer is miming to something pre-recorded ! The great thing about live albums from the early 70s and before is that what you hear on the album is what the audience heard (sometime from the mid-1970s some studio “overdubbing” was occasionally done - absolutely zilch of that on “Made in Japan” !)

Haha….love it!! Such a “new” fan of your work,Ritchie. My husband knows about you via Rainbow and Purple (as that’s the generation of rock he loves) but I come from a classical and folk background and found you through Blackmore’s Night 💚 As I’ve learned to appreciate my husband’s rock music more (we trade off on what plays in our house - lol) and discovered some of your early rock videos and these “interviews”, it’s your immense skill as a well rounded musician that is so impressive to me! In fact, I’m teaching myself music theory in large part because of one video you did where you explained the chordal structure of a piece you’d written. It was such an eye opener and showed me how much more there is to do with music. And if I want to be a better musician, I need to fill in the gaps and get cracking with understanding more about this language. (I’m learning to play the folk harp). So thank you for sharing your incredible musicianship with us!!!

As a east Los Angeles lifelong guitarist that moved to West Norwood London, I’m saddened to hear to by you Mr. Blackmore you missed in your life your fellow countrymen as the late kindest gent Allan Holdsworth, Gary Moore, Peter John "Ollie" Halsall, and Gary Boyle. I met Eric Clapton once for a Yamaha party at NAMM. Eric told me eye to eye “without poor black American guitarist, I wouldn’t be here today”. I learned also for without American musicians, there wouldn’t be British copycat musicians.

In all honesty I cannot remember ever hearing a Taylor Swift song, nor do I want to. I find the "rock and roll" being made today is pointless noise, terribly shallow, repetitive. There's no artistry when everything is auto-tuned and timed through the computer.

My musical tastes are from the past such as 60s and 70s. Like Ritchie I find today's music difficult to listen to. It is rubbish. Personal opinion is majority of musicians were more talented and could play. I also tend to switch the radio off and create my own play list. I am 64 and a lot more fussy about what I listen to.

RB is the complete opposite of loudmouths like Ted Nugent, but you can bet someone will take his last "rant" seriously. So much of the moody stuff seems to be parody - he's having a laugh. I think his fall-outs with his own bandmates have come about through an urge to get music right, on his part and theirs. I remember how much he liked Whitesnake, a long time before he and DC became friends again. When you have fave bands (Deep Purple and Mott the Hoople in my case), the idea that all other groups are inferior is illogical.

I saw Ritchie in 1980 at a small venue in Colorado...he came out on stage and sneered at the audience. He hated being there and the band finished in 20 minutes. After that, my admiration for Ritchie died.

🫶 ! I think he and all of us who are a bit older grew up in a time when the term "art" had a different meaning and a different definition in contemporary culture. In my opinion, that is the reason why so many sounds and other representations from back then still "work" today and are legendary. Today, however, the term "art" is applied more or less at will to almost EVERYTHING - as long as it is or is intended to be commercially successful in the short term.
