I was there, the year it came out!. The African Queen album came out in the summer of '77 or '78. It was a BIG ASS HIT! I HEARD IT THE WEEKEND IT CAME OUT. Me and friends were at a teenage disco in HOLLYWOOD called GINO'S. The disco was a young racially mix club. African Queens was a big hit at all the summer parties that year! Brings back memories of my youth! We won't hear this kinda of music again, well house is a cute replacement. For those of you who missed it! All I can say is " you should have been there. It was so exciting to be that young with this music! 🙂!

Heard of Ginos back then but I usually went to Westwood "Dillons". They stamped your hand if you were under 21 so you could not buy booze.

I'm totally with you on your exhilarating comment Orlando. Coming from London in '77, I was 17 & living the energetic disco years to the full. I got a job in a record shop in London's West End & would sometimes blare this out in the shop. Voodoo!!!

One of the best arrangements ever in an Orchestral-Disco track, and beautifully sang too. A blend of sensuality and exotica, an incomparable tour de force.

Musica meravigliosa. Indimenticabile.

This is awesome. I've always been one of their fans. At that time I was a child and fond of almost everything from Africa. So I was more than happy to listen to this song. I still love their songs.

Still gives me goosebumps, since 1977! One of the best jams for sexy-soulful hustle! Used to mix (extend) the first 5 minutes (before Voodoo) at least 3 times at gigs. Awesome album cover! On so many levels, the garbage that's produced these days can't touch this vintage stuff.

Some orchestra somewhere could make a wonderful show using the music from the Ritchie Families albums. The second half could be dedicated to the Village People who had the same arrangements but with the male vocals instead. I'd go!!
