I met his brother Bob roughly 15 years ago. Stayed in touch with him over the message board he used to keep. He's gone now, too. But man, if there ever was a fellow that had enough machismo to spare, it was Bob. I called him "The Chicano Sam Elliot" and he just burst out laughing. Both boys were very talented: Ritchie with his music, and Bob with his artwork. I'll miss his handshake. You could feel his soul. Very passionate people.

I think if Ritchie never would of passed away so young, he would of got into the 60’s era of music and probably would of been a great classic rock guitarist like Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana or Clapton. Back in the '80s I bought Ritchie's only two available vinyls: a complete collection of his recordings, and "Live at Pacoima Jr. High." On the 50th anniversary of his death in 2009, I took a life-size color wood cutout that I painted of him to his gravesite, but no one was there... I later learned that Los Lobos had invited the Valenzuela family to the Surf Ballroom in Iowa (where Ritchie's final performance took place), and they celebrated the 50th there that night. He will always be remembered and celebrated by music lovers everywhere!

@That_AMC_Guy3 жыл бұрын
Or how short-lived their time in the spotlight really was! In the movie, they say 8 months.... but it was really almost less than 6. Bob Keane officially signed Ritchie to the Del-Fi label on May 27th, 1958. It wasn't until JULY that Bob finally pulled together enough money for an afternoon recording session at Gold Star. That session yielded the recording of "Come On, Let's Go". "Framed" was recorded later and the single was released that SEPTEMBER. So.... the rest of America had NO idea who Ritchie was until the fall of 1958. The "La Bamba" and "Donna" single was released mid-December. And Ritchie was released February 3rd, '59. Here's the real scary thing to think about.... only "Come on, Let's Go" b/w "Framed", and "La Bamba" b/w "Donna" were released in Ritchie's lifetime. His first album wouldn't hit the shelves until March of '59 and even that was rushed into production sadly, to capitalize on his death. The fact that he'd recorded what he did and toured in the same amount of time is next to astonishing. I wish they'd have tried to convey that fact in the movie. The movie is a bit compressed as it is but.... it really does not convey that the whole story happens literally over 5-6 months. It's also like coming to the realization of ALL the Hits Creedence Clearwater Revival gave us. I think they had 31 Gold Records (when a Gold record meant a million+ units) and all in the time frame of about two-and-a-half years.
