For me he is the best rock guitarist ever. He is one of the most influential rock guitarist, yet apart from his fan base he doesn't seem to get credit for that. A beautiful blend of technical proficiency and style.

I think there's several reasons for that. The biggest is he has this internet reputation for being a terrible person so there's a lot of people who don't even listen to his music who go out of their way to bash him on KZbin. Also, there's not a lot of video footage of him in concert especially early on to prove how great and influential he was. I just watched a Brian May interview saying how great Ritchie was and how he was doing all this amazing stuff before Hendrix even came on the scene.

"tHe BEst, JeRry! ThE bESt!" - its such a ludicrous statement relating to *any guitar player* In fact, as a "far better" guitar player by the name of Eric Johnson put it over 30 yrs ago: "whats better, the colour blue or the colour red?" . Its.That.Simple....
@raoulduke344

@@MoreMeRecording So calling someone "the best, Jerry! The best" is "ludicrous" but when it's someone you like who you think is "far better", like Eric Johnson who, to be clear, is not better than Blackmore, then the term has meaning? Because it'd you that'/s saying who he best is, and not someone you disagree with?

Ritchie, to me, is way more than an idol. When I was starting to get serious about learning, I could almost grab a few of Clapton's licks (like from Crossroads), maybe a few of the repeating riffs from Jimmy Page...but man, when "In Rock" came out? Forget it. The speed, the non-standard melody lines, that super-compressed, mid-range-y tone, the classical influences...Ritchie was so far over my head! I just listened in awe.

His Guitar spoke to me , since then I have been the biggest fans ever .Last time I had the pleasure seeing him was in Scotland _ Edinburgh Blackmore's Night I left a bunch of flowers on the stage .One of the best concerts I have ever been. Thank you very much for all your wonderful music Mr Blackmore . No one else is coming close to you , ever. 🙏

I discovered Deep Purple years ago of course but never got to see them live, or Rainbow. I’ve watched several videos now of the early bands. I’m old too and can’t handle seeing them old onstage. Same here. I caught that tour when they were on their Australian leg. I dug it so much I caught the show again two nights later. Both times, they did Smoke on the Water towards the end of the show and both times, they faded out and let the crowd sing the chorus for a bit. Everyone was right into it.

@@neddobrijevic3183 Dude you can check it out. Blackmore began his career in late 50s. Beatles first album was released in 1963 Hendrix (most overrated player on planet earth) released his debut album in 1967. Ironically Blackmore was influenced by him but come on, an ancient player like Hendrix who did not live up to experience the 70s era. (no pun intended) can't hold a candle to someone like Blackmore whose powers grew and grew until he reached godlike level around the 80s. Tell me one memorable tune Hendrix composed.. yea whatever

@@markymark560 Not .... if he leaves the keyboard player stranded on stage for 20 minutes soloing .... while he and the band ... take a nap!? Who knows, there may have been a problem? (I’m referring to the most recently incarnation of Rainbow) After 10 minutes the poor guy was running out of any sense of flow and ideas ... and it dawns on me, and I suspect half the 12,000 seat arena, that Ritchie is probably playing a joke on him. The energy went out of the show after that unfortunately. Every band can have a bad night. I saw them on their first indoor show a year previous to that in Birmingham and they were fantastic. Ritchie did some shredding during Stargazer. .

Here is the writer and player of the most dynamic and the most dramatic solos when comes to main stream rock music..the note magician with the guitar chops to boot, too. The greatest blues player that refused to play straight out blues. For those who know, know what I'm talking about. I'm hearing this none sense how EVH is the greatest, most influential and blah, blah guitar player.....Sorry, but he is not even close to Ritchie when comes to creativity and cleverness, not to mention that he learned a lot from Ritchie first, not the other way around....
