FYI Plena is a different genre from Bomba. Plena orignated in the mountains of PR where as Bomba developed in the coastal plains. The drums used in Plena are held up in ones hand. It's orignis are more European. Bomba is African.

The Gracima (T. Conrad version) is exactly like the Saidi rhythm in arabic music. Where it goes Dum-tak dum-dum tak .

Great Video, as usual. Cortijo Y su gran combo popularized the Bomba Plena. There is an album that was recorded by him entitled Ritmos Callejeros which covers all those ritmos. Unfortunately we lost Cortijo and Ismael Rivera but their music lingers on. Keep up the good work Mike.........Rico Montalvo

Plena is not originated in the center of the island, but yes, it has jibaro music influence.

Nice!!! This rhythm doesn't have Clave? I mean,Son Clave or Rumba clave? can you explian me that? pleaseee
@MichaeldeMiranda
@MichaeldeMiranda 4 жыл бұрын
Bomba rhythms don't use the clave. Very often the different bomba rhythms are just 1 bar.

I don't know exactly what they are playing, but I hear a mixture of cha cha lokafun with rumba clave and one of the beautiful Plena styles. He made a very nice rhythm!

False, plena originated in Ponce and does not have elements of mountain jibaro music.
