Speaking for the rest of the world, the US's republican Christians interpretation of the Bible is a thousand times more worrying than a joke band from Sweden.

Ghost are pretty tongue in cheek. However, I do think that if fitting themes that challenge the status quo into a poppier sound gets people to think about things from a different angle that is probably a net positive. Take from that what you will.

Ghost as a project functions in two main ways: the reality and the fantasy. The Devil worshipping stuff is the fantasy, and it’s used not only to entertain (think spooky ooky Halloween type entertainment) but also as a vehicle to convey a real message and belief system (both of which are separate from the fantasy). Tobias forge is openly an agnostic Satanist and based on how he’s described his beliefs, his satanism is more aligned with the agnostic/atheistic satanism of the satanic temple. To him, satan isn’t this evil fallen Angel, but rather a symbol of individuality, anti authority, intelligence, and creativity. A lot of Ghost’s music criticizes conservatism, bigotry, capitalism, and organized religion, and it will use the fantasy as an analogy for those messages. Overall, the music is very leftist and anarchist in nature. In interviews Tobias as stated that with ghost concerts (dubbed “rituals” by fans), he wishes to create a positive religious experience, one that is liberating and accepting as opposed to shameful and stifling. So technically he is legitimately spreading the word of his own personal satanism, but the main message can be chalked up to “love yourself and love others.” so it’s actually quite hippie in that sense. all Tobias wants to do is make people happy and make them feel good about themselves. The devil worshiping stuff is just for a bit of fun and can act as catharsis for those who have negative relationships with the church like he does. Three songs that i find walk this line in a very interesting way are “He Is” and “Cirice”, both from their third album Meliora, and “Spillways” from their fifth album IMPERA. The real messages are much clearer in those songs. Hope this helps :)

History! A study of history would show that Ghost sounds like a 60s, 70s, and 80s band such as, for example, Sabbath or BoC and dresses like other poppy hard rock and art rock bands such as the Alice Cooper band, Genesis, and Kiss. But hold on, I guess I can't expect an age dedicated to ahistoricism to grasp real history. Glad to hear someone like you who actually knows something about rock history talk about Ghost.. Ah, the satirical and parodic joys of inversion. What was that famous mediaeval era drama/comedy of inversion?

As a Swede id say you need to travel to Sweden and ask us about religion before you paste "satanic" in our faces lol :)

I'm a Biblical Christian who finds Ghost fascinating. If you like the poppier 80s metal of your youth you'll probably like their sound...a thoughtful Christian may find Tobias Forge's lyrics interesting, and a good conversation starter. He's very smart, very strategic and very funny This particular tune totally calls Blue Oyster Cult to mind for me. While the "Satanism" shtick is tongue-in-cheek, he does seem to fairly dislike the Christian Church, I believe.

Don't worry. They are neither christian or religious. That means that don't believe in the devil as well.

If you're doing a lyric analysis, why not put up a lyric video? Uhh 🤔 Tongue in cheeks Satanism, or is it? That's the gimmick...😇😉 Try doing "Year Zero" for a less subtle message and delivery. Lol. Ahhh, it seems you're a believer in the Christian viewpoint, as I watch the end of your video. You definitely won't be liking Ghost then.... Some of us don't believe there is a winning or losing side. We think it's all made up to control people but hey that's just some of us.

I think that you nailed it. Catchy tune with a dark lyric. Just the kind of irony that's Ghost🙂. And the first album sounds a little like early Mercyful Fate. Good analysis. Greetings from Linkoping, Sweden. The hometown of Ghost. Or
