Very interesting! I am Maliki and I respect Imam Shafi'i for not blind following but I think he was a bit reactionary, however the courage to not go with the Crowd is still good because we should blind follow

@Sam E first the guy muntassir is a hanfai - so “they” if anything blind follow hadith the less of all madhhabs - he is just sticking up for shafi’i thats all - nevertheless, shafi’i did not blind follow ahad hadith either (though yes he took them more serious per se) - in fact Malik would accept manshoor hadith over Shafi’i - for Shafi’i it NEEDED to be sahih, he did not care how “well-known” an hadith was - and even if it was sahih it could not contradict the Qur’an (which we do see at times in the Hanbali madhhab) - Shafi’i literally uprooted the true complexity of usul al-fiqh - plus, he spent 17 years learning Arabic at such a deep level that he stayed with the bedouins most of the time to learn - everyone during the time agreed that no one had a better understanding and overall complexity of classicsl arabic than Shafi’i WITH THAT BEING SAID, overall, when it comes to “Ahad” hadith (not muttawatir obviously, though unfortunately there is probably only very few TRUE mass transmitted ahādith to actually be muttawatir) - but as i was saying, when it comes to Sahih ‘Ahad Hadith, though I just talked highly of Shafi’i, I agree more with the Maliki position in regards to hadith - because i also find the Amal of the Medinites a deep sunnah within itself - after all, Malik was born only 70-80 years after the prophets death in the very city/town / and as Malik was growing up as a child there had to be actual sahabah still alive - be it whether they were very old or not, so I can’t imagine how any single or multiple transmitted hadiths would trump the living tradition/Sunnah of those in Medina itself - so though I think no one compares to Shafi’i when it comes to fiqh (as in the 4 imams i mean, because Ghazalis expansion on his fiqh alone trumps everyone imo) but lets not act like he just “blind follows” ahādith - the man contributed A LOT to this din

Why can't Mufti Abu Layth let Mufti Muntasir finish his points first, before arguing back. It's a sign of lack of adab.

my theory is that shafi since hes palestenian may have been influenced by orthodoxo judaism and their devoition to hadiths/talmud. So in a indirect way his methodology did come from his region.

Is this his own personal theory or not? It is interesting but seems he has a fundamental problem with hadithist approach and wants to pinpoint imam ash shaafie RA as the founder of this approach. I myself prefer the school of kufa which originates with ibn masud RA but imam ash shaafies approach comes from sahaba too and the original jurists

AoA...in my humble opinion ..what is this really all about, all we need to understand is to worship One ALLAH SWT and to follow the last seal of the prophet..so all these silly muftis are simply causing internal issues and to try to get one over on each other..i bet the fat guy with his tight t shirt on is a mirpuri from azaad kashmir..because its these peasant type mentalities who suffer from bravado etc etc.

What kind of mufti is layth look at his dress code & hair cut both r agaist sunnah

Yasin there is no dress in Islam, and the way he dresses is according to the shariah. He has proved with evidence that having uneven hair, wearing chains for men, wearing tight clothes (according to the malikiyah) is permissible. How about we judge people based on their knowledge rather than what they wear which unfortunately is a disease of the muslims today

your reply is shocking, this mufti is misguiding u. our dress code should be very simlar to The Holy Prophet [ saw ] and having hair styles like the devils is forbidden and that is clear and wearing chains is also not allowed

The prophet wore a Persian scarf so should we wear a Persian scarf? the prophet simply wore certain clothes and ate certain food because that was his culture. Its not sunnah, neve mind compulsory. I haven't heard any scholar say you should wear what the prophet wore, Arab scholars wear thaub and a rumal because its their culture. Pakistani and indian scholars wear shalwar kameez because its their culture., the mufti is wearing a shirt because that's how people dress in Britain. As for the chains, there is ikhtilaf (difference of opinion) in that matter. And what do you mean devil? the devil is a jinn we don't know what he looks like and or even if he had hair, what are you talking about
