​@@dakedres IDK it's almost as readable as Rivals 1 and is more legible than Ultimate. and art style wise it's honestly every bit as good if not BETTER because it's high res enough to HAVE an art style meanwhile Rivals 1 can be construed to have a "generic" pixel art style. I do personally like the way Rivals 1 looks but to say it had more character is wrong. Also Rivals 2 has some dope ass animations & effects.

As an idea: maybe have one of his commands be a dodge/counter that stocks "charges" for his other moves. Each dodge is one charge, holding another move's input burns a charge to enhance it (think Cloud's Limit, but controlled)

They legit have not gotten worse I've loved them for the longest time. Anyone that doesn't enjoy them is probably a graphics Andy or some shit. @Choas_Lord_512 does Sakura go to his tournaments does smash have characters as dynamic as rivals. Each character has a unique mechanic hard or easy to understand. Smash is carried by it's icon characters rivals is carried by it's fluid game play mechanics, workshop, and competitive scene. Give rivals a solid single player game mode/options easily it hits home for the right people. Skull girls is respected but no played as much does that make it a worse game than Mortal Kombat/Tekken/Street fighter. When melee is the best version of smash and the developer refuse to make it that way while Dan pushes his game to the next level while keeping it's base depth smash seems to pale as a comparison out side of casual gameplay.

Forgive me if i'm wrong, but is this also reveal of voice acting? Either way, I'm about this! Fleet looks awesome, and I parrot the desires of others in hoping the rest of the Dungeons quartet make the leap! Me personally, I hope Elliana makes the jump as well. Love her character. My only broad request character wise would be more antagonist characters. Sometimes it is really fun to play the bad guy. Personal specific ask would be for a Mole. I love Moles.

Gonna grieve the old pixel art because it was SICK. But i agree the VU is the right step forward. Also, never been hyped for a ranged character before in a fighter game but Fleet looks really clever and well designed, can't wait for release.

After looking through a few things in the video, she looks like she might be replacing Pomme and Shovel Knight in a few ways. From what I could see, she looks like she might have a hover mechanic AND a resource collection mechanic, being both Pomme and SK's things. Pomme was made by someone else, and SK is from a different franchise, so it looks like this character might just replace those 2 sadly. For any proof check 0:41 and 0:45. They look a bit changed from the og's but the essence is still there.

She won't be replacing Pomme. The Rivals crew bought the rights to the 4 workshop characters. They own them. It would be really weird if they don't make it to Rivals 2. Shovel Knight and Ori probably won't make it as they are guest characters.

The characters are definitely in the right direction, and the Vfx could be a bit more flashy and better blended, but overall looks really nice; now, the backgrounds seem very weak and dead. They need way more movement, change of light, platforms moving in the environment, may be some foreground elements moving fast.

To be fair, Rivals of Aether is basically a complete game. Rivals 2 still looks like the same game but with more stuff and 3D, I'm just hoping the animations are sped up a bit. It feels slow somehow.

@@Manganization yeah it does seem slow. The main thing I hate is I feel like it's such a missed opportunity. Workshop had the potential to create endless and awesome characters, and really involve the fan base in the development of the game. Then picking workshop characters to balance and put in the official game was so so cool, and I think the would have become more popular and changed the fighting genre for the better if they stuck on that path and embraced their uniqueness than to become another smash clone. They are never gonna contest smash at their own game, I wish they invested their chips into what made them different

Otherwise, I prefer my fighting games a crafted experience. Never liked the "Mario-maker" style of videogames. If I wanted to make my own levels I would've been a game designer.

@@Manganization they can't really bring workshop to rivals 2 because it's no longer pixel art. Anyone could make characters in Microsoft paint if they wanted, but that doesn't apply to 3d models, and it's much harder to match styles and graphics too, it's just a lot less accessible. And what I think is amazing about workshop is the potential for original characters. In most video game development, they have a team that designs characters, so there is a relatively small, finite amount of people thinking about characters, and the company has to pay them to work. But workshop had thousands of participants, all of whom worked for free. Rivals characters are incredibly unique in terms of their kits and gameplay compared to smash or other fighting games, and that kind of character development is hard. But there were dozens upon dozens of workshop characters that equaled or even surpassed the quality of the original rivals cast. I felt like that was such a huge win/win. Rivals could increase their cast without massive monetary commitment to pay workers to design and create the characters, the community would feel more invested in the game and part of its development, giving creators a goal to strive for and increasing the quality of workshop characters, as well as giving the players new character releases and keeping the game exciting and fresh, preventing a "solved" meta like what happened to melee. I just personally believe rivals + workshop had one of the greatest potentials in gaming that I've seen, and they squashed it to be smash bros' b tier. It just is so sad to me.

I agree to some extent, but disagree in others. At the end of the day, they are a business, and a company cannot be run on one fighting game. I'm certain that the team has plenty of stories they want to tell in this growing universe that the base Aether cannot support right now without massive content updates, and rejiggering of codebase. By starting a new project, they can progress the story from what was presented before, or expand on mechanics, or give themselves more programming room to grow with a new engine. Is Aether 1 going away? Nah, that game will always have an audience. But for the health of the franchise, they needed to move forward, and painful of a pill to swallow as that can be. In terms of workshop, I disagree entirely. From Risk of Rain 2, to Marvel vs Capcom 3, to Smash Bros. itself, modders have been there to bring new characters to 3d modeled games. Is it more effort? Sure, I'll give you that. But I have a sneaking suspicion Aether 2 will be built to be very mod friendly, and the dedicated will be damn sure to be there for it, even if they have to crack the game wide open to do it. No one's asking this franchise to compete with Smash now, but a legacy is being built that if fostered, COULD.
