@@johnmarkson1990 yeah but also PM has an actual rooster. I think it's preference but PM/P+ are what the evolution of melee should've been which makes me believe they are the better game designs. Melee is class but growth is very important despite the meta changing in melee a lot meta game wise.

Honestly, if they keep it up I think Rivals 2 will rise above Melee in the end. Sure people will play Melee but people play every platfighter. Rivals just has so much more going for it objectively if you ignore the nostalgia people have for Melee's characters.

Maypul is the inkling of Rivals 2, strong early meta but as soon as everybody advances their characters people are going to realise she has next to no depth in comparison to characters like orcane/zetter/wrastor/ranno. Shes gonna have the single biggest fall from grace

honestly good realization. the comparison is strong there. maypul’s gameplan is effective but simple and people are going to get used to it quickly. (tbf tho i think it’s been so long since inkling was meta it’s possible for her to become relevant again if that makes sense. same thing could happen for maypul later in rival’s lifespan)

Fair ranking. Every character has insane sauce but I think it's definitely fair to call Lox the worst, even if he's still really good. He's strangely not good at a lot of things but very good at a lot of other things. This just kinda confirms my theory from RoA 1 that if you put SK in Smash as is, he'd be like high-mid even though he's the worst character in RoA 1 (except for Syl, maybe) Also yes, Fleet/Lox is legit like 90/10, that shit SUCKS -- speaking as a Lox main.

Parrying can shut down a fleet, try whipping it out against fleets that like to keep their distance. You’ll still get juggled through

You even see "low tier" characters like sylvanos and sk in competitive matches in rivals. I've also seen several people that think those characters aren't low tier at all. I think this level of varying opinion is a testament to how balanced the game is. Everyone is cracked so nobody is legitimately weak if you're good enough

I'm also a Loxodont main, and my friend mains Fleet. I literally had to pick up Clairen just to deal with his Fleet. The Lox Fleet matchup is literally impossible

As someone who mained zet for 9 years in rivals 1 and has been running rivals 2 events all summer, zetter's recovery got BETTER in rivals 2. Mean while kragg is in no world S tier. Smash players will figure out how to fight against kragg eventually. We all go through this when we first start rivals.

@@fadeixi4212 Which to that as a Clairen main, she is a bit slow(more to her startup in her moves, when given other characters in the cast whose fastest attacks feel faster than her's). And nothing like grab couldn't handle to opening her up... which I have been victim to a lot in those situations

@@fadeixi4212 she's not slow as in she runs slower, but she's slow in the sense that her moves have more startup than most other characters so she can struggle getting out of shield. She also struggles to kill more than most characters.

Clairen is really broken if you're bad at the game. At like mid level play and higher she struggles in a lot of places other characters don't like killing reliably and having a fast get off me tool. She's still super solid though, just not as broken as all the people complaining about her make her out to be.

Yeah, getting walled out with pokes in the first few days was frustrating but once I learned better spacing I don't mind the matchup as much. What I really hate now are the characters who can ignorantly spam arials on shield (top 6 of this list) and Clairen just isn't a part of that club.

FWIW I was asking Rongunshu in chat at the last coinbox his opinion on the matchup and he was saying he thinks orcane beats clairen. Didn't really take time to discuss it with him in detail, but there may be more there than you think.

Rivals 2 is great for how there isn't a character whose truly terrible, yet each character still has very distinct weaknesses and strengths where they are exploitable but also can be played around too. I main Clairen, and the bits I've played with her, yeah her tipper stuns are pretty strong and her disjoints make it good for outranging a good number of the cast, but Clairen herself feels quite a bit slower than you'd think she is, to where she has somewhat poor escape options when enemies get close(not a lot of her moves are that fast, and sourspots being an issue) and during a tech chase, and her limited ways to kill if you can't land tippers. Granted I haven't played at her peak(and I've been a sorta mediocre Clairen since I've sort of developed a really bad habit of trying to do forward-strong set-ups which has made me very predicable after they did help in clearing out stocks pretty well in a number of matches... and being generally overly passive by not going out to edgeguard, among other bad habits. May need some general basic tips to know how to survive a little more in online matches; I mostly main her since I like her playstyle and her as a character), but when fighting against characters like Zetterburn, Forsburn, and Ranno, three characters that can easily get into her face and can tech chase, it's often an uphill battle to try and shake them off And in general having a bit of unfamiliarity with many of the Melee tech that can be done, compared to what black magic online players can conjure up in the middle of the match

Clairen is really easy too Play and easy Chars will never be the best. Its a huge + too Play a easy Chars, you can more Focus on the Action on the enemy and i think all bellow Diamond has a hard time vs mid Claren Player.

I feel like zetterburn has a lot of options to get back to stage but all of them are easily punishable. if you can force him into an up special to ledge, all you have to do is a hold almost any smash attack and it will connect 99% of the time.

I feel like a lot of Zetter's recover so predictably though. You get them mixing up down B cancels, wall jumps, fast fall shine stalls, air dodge, and not to mention all the directions he can go with up B and they could go from being easily punishable to incredibly difficult to predict.

I miss her old neutral b the air grabs were so much fun. And as of right now there’s no use for her neutral b and I don’t think it’s gonna develop at all. I saw people jumping off charging it but it still felt better to just aerial. I think they should tweak it imo

@@royal1605 I've seen some creative uses for it. The up and down angles can hit spaces that fair can't and the low-charge tipper sends the opponent straight up, which can lead to bigger conversions than fair. So it might be more useful for optimizing punishes

I fully agree with this list. As a lox main he is definitely the worst on the roster, but that doesn’t make him terrible. It just means you have to work harder to get your wins. Also Lox vs Fleet is 100% the worst match up in the game it’s not even close.

I keep saying nothing will replace melee. But im scared I am lying to myself. I mean melee will never truly die unless nintendo goes nuclear. BUT rivals is such a good game its currently hard for me to want to play melee. Anyways I think Kragg is definitely S tier along with zetter and fleet. A tier is literally the rest of the roster except for maybe forsburn. I think Maypul and Ranno have the most potential to be busted but they are hard characters to get results with.

Wrastor's entire playstyle is just ignorantly spamming arials until you get a confirm into clap. Ranno and Zetter do pretty much the same exact thing but they have a variety gimmicks and unique movement options. Like obviously all his tools are crazy good, but they're also dry and repetitive with minimal variety in his gameplan. Truly the unseasoned chicken breast of characters.

D tier is for characters like Ganon that struggle to play the game and get dunked on for every match up. Lox is a better character than the majority of Ultimate characters, that's part of why this game is balanced. But personally I would say he's like a B or A tier. Definitely a step below the rest.

@@Capta1nTD What you're describing is F Tier (the last official Smash list has Ganon as E minus). I understand that Rivals 2 is fairly balanced and generally high powered, pushing perception of all characters together up the scale. But the reality is that Lox isn't playing "the majority of Ultimate characters," he's playing the Rivals cast, and should be appreciated in that context. If the argument is that all characters are viable, I could be swayed to giving Lox a C (though this would also mean that no characters separate themselves from the rest of the cast as in other games, suppressing the number that would qualify for S-Tier). However, I believe the nature of Lox's match-ups across the board is being overlooked. A post below goes as far to say that Fleet/Lox is 90/10. Which characters does Lox have a positive match-up against? How many are losing?
