Brian was the best in the business. I met him once on Richmond Street in downtown London, Ontario one afternoon. Of course, me just being a local Cathedral organist, he had no idea who I was. But I knew who HE was and told him so and we had a terrific conversation on the street for about a half hour. I sensed he felt slightly awkward for some reason but I suspect it was because he may not have been used to being interviewed. I was brimming with excitement and had a million questions for him! He was exceedingly warm and generous of his time to a youngster like me. Really quite an unforgettable experience to meet Brian, that's for sure.

Life is weird. Why is it super talented artists all die in their twenties!? So much life and opportunities ahead of him. Why so reckless? He died of an accidental overdose just because he was upset he couldn't play the closing set at the Viper club on an idle Friday night out with his brother and his friends. How one hour can turn a person downward so fast so hard. He had to have had daemons. What a shame. Glad his brother quoted him when he won his Oscar.

He grew up in a cult. His family was really weird. He became rich and famous young. That affects people's minds. They just aren't mature enough to handle it.
@catwoman88613 жыл бұрын
I hate that he’s been lumped in with a bunch of self destructive addicts, hell bent on obliterating themselves. That wasn’t him . The night he died, he was handed a cup full of the lethal dose of drugs by John Frusciante. He had no idea what was really in it. Samantha Mathis told several people this. He wouldn’t kill himself over a missed chance to play onstage. It didn’t happen like that at all. Instead of charging Frusciante with at least manslaughter in the same way John Belushi’s killer was, everyone rallied around and protected him from the consequences. For some reason River’s family called off an investigation. And a club packed with people failed to see he was dying for an hour. Says a lot about that crowd of showbiz ‘friends’. He even tried to tell someone he was ODing. He knew something was wrong but they dismissed him. He was thrown to the wolves of LA.
@JFK-ir7yz3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for posting this. I point this out to people all the time and they deny it. John Frusciante saw River was upset and handed him a blue cup and said “here drink this. It will make you feel amazing.” Rivers fatal mistake was trusting a scumbag junkie. And you’re right. A club full of people and no one helped him. If help was called on time he would’ve survived. This tragedy still hurts. He was one of a kind, he was THE artist of a generation. I hope I can meet him someday; somewhere, somehow.

@@catwoman8861 Everything you said is true! Its so sad that this is all unknown... At least we that truly care about him know the truth... People that were close to him, including his "friends" and family, did not deserve him...
@kamilyakadyr7063 Жыл бұрын
He was a deeply traumatized soul, from a strange family, that was thrown into stardom at an early age. The pressure he felt must have been immense, and he wasn’t prepared for the life that was thrown at him. His OD was a disaster waiting to happen, considering his trauma and being surrounded by some junkie friends. What happened to River that night was terrible luck, but there’s no denying that he was slowly leading himself to that terrible demise. Who knows what would’ve happened had he survived, maybe he would’ve had an OD later in life. It’s just strange that no one in his professional or personal life seriously guided him into rehab or anything of that sort, I understand Martha Plimpton’s (his former ex) anger towards this. Like he was taking hardcore drugs and people were fine with that? If not the overdose, what did people expect would happen? He was casted in more work, where he should have gone to rehab and therapy. People on set could literally see he wasn’t fine and they still forced him to work? What the hell? It’s not surprising that River’s life ended where it did, I wonder why no one in Hollywood or in his personal life ever did anything to save him or at least give a him a major wake up call. I think Hollywood had learned a huge learning lesson from this.

Its even been rumoured that Johnny Depp was involved eg he made the drink and ordered John to give it to River. It was 8x lethal dose. That was no accident , that is murder. River had no idea what was in that drink, he though it was an alcoholic drink and downed it. He had been clean for a while, his autopsy proves it.

There is a song made for River Phoenix by Milton Nascimento. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYaqqqmwirOsgac Milton Nascimento saw a movie and create a poem, a kind of letter for the actor and River Phoenix knew Milton Nascimento for a song that he listened to in someplace in NY. Milton show this poem to a close friend, singer, Simone and she said that he should make a song, Milton thought twice because he was a little embarrassed to record a song with such inner feelings to someone he didn't meet personally. But, with some contacts, when they decided to record in a disc, they ask for River's mother to allow to put his name in the name of the song. As I see in interviews, the mother said something like "who is this Milton Nascimento? I'll not let them use my son's name" and River and his sister say something like "I can't believe you don't know who is Milton Nascimento". River Phoenix recorded a speech in the disc Txai, an album from Milton Nascimento. They became friends.
