River Photography at Sunrise | Misty River Photos | Outdoor Photography Geoff Moore Photography

In this months video I get up late for an early morning photo walk down along side my local river, the Avon in Worcestershire, where I try photograph sunrise on a cold and misty morning, whilst trying not to cause much angst with the local ducks.
Join me as I look to photograph beautiful sunrise reflections on the river water surface and end up photographing stunning backlight reed beds as the rising suns morning light gives way from pinks, oranges and blues into golden hues and sepia tones. And all of this only a fifteen minute walk from home.
Within this video I produce emotive backlit silhouette of river reeds and capture the changing quality of sunlight from the soft warm colourful light of the breaking dawn through to the sepia tones and contrasting white light of the day.
This was made possible using the Pentax K1 Camera, combined with the SMS Pentax-da* 60-250mm F4 ED telephoto lens, Pentax-D FA 28-105mm f/3.5-5.6 ED DC WR, a shallow depth of field and! an ounce of luck as I raced against the clock against the rising sun and fast evaporating river mist.
I hope you enjoy the images produced with their unique sunrise colours and tones. I also hope this outdoor photography video goes someway to inspire you to think and visit local, look for the smaller everyday details in your local rivers, parks and communities at this very special time of year.

Thanks David, It was a case of making the best of what I had to work with. The early morning soft light; I was just too late for (which is a rarity in itself) and as I was walking up the banks of the Avon I visually caught the last of the pinks. So really had to change tact and adapt. Thankfully those reeds worked in my favour and on reflection I think the silhouettes are probably stronger than the original image I had in mind.

Thanks Mike. with each new video vlog i'm trying to incrementally improve, be that presentation, storytelling etc . Getting out and about has been a struggle of late for everyone and i was feeling quite rusty on producing/shooting video , so its reassuring that your comments suggest it didn't show too much :)

Beautiful opening to this Geoff, set to the mood perfectly. That opening shot was a gorgeous scene and well executed, my local river is at the bottom of the valley and about 2 metres wide and 3 ft deep at most plus it only sees the sun after rising over an 1800ft mountain so no chance of your conditions, lol. An enjoyable watch with some stunning images, loved the image at 6:13. I came to this video by a recommendation on you tube (the header caught my eye) and I thought I am already subscribed to you but I hadn't pressed the bell icon which is all important to get the notifications - sorted now. atb Al

Mountains, valley, shallows! lol :) - I'm pleased to read you enjoyed the silhouette images, I think there might be a topic to explore within that subject alone. next on my list will be a revisit to the woods and the bluebells, cliché but would be good to see if I have improved on my first attempt and vloging bluebell photography

Thanks Phil, its always humbling to read people enjoying my little videos, I suppose that's part of the reason I make them, but I often end up forgetting that point lol :) As for the Pentax DFA 28-105 a kit lens by name (to some), a kit lens by versatility and quality its not! I highly regard this little lens and it makes up a huge percentage of my photography taken on the Pentax system. It punches way above its weight in pricing and produces some incredible images. I would go as far as to say if I ever broke it, I would buy a new one in a heart beat.

Me to Neville, one of the reasons I swapped systems for landscapes, from Canon 7d2 to Pentax K-1 . Although the camera itself is now getting on a bit 4-5 years old which is an age in technology years it still punches way above its price point in its image quality output. That being said, for the next video I might jump back to the Canon 7d2 and my 400mm lens for a spot of wildlife photography down my local nature reserve... had an afternoon of it the other week and it was quite enjoyable.

Nice video Geoff, I really like the last image with the abbey. Noticed that you have the same back pack that I do. It is the perfect one for me, took me three other bags before I found this one. I took a look around your home town, Pershore looks like a nice place. One line of my family is originally from Martock, England. They left for the New World in the late 1600's.

Thank you. yes I have the Mindshift 35L - Very comfortable. But like most Camera bags the bigger they are the more camera gear you stuff into them that you dont actually use and you just end up lugging about :) - My home town Is nice, it has its difficulties like many pleases do if your young, but as you get older it offers much. In fact If memory serves me well, I think Pershore at one time was in the guinness book of records for the number of people over the age of a hundred at any given time. What a statistic!
